But his sudden change from kindly old man to fierce evil was incredible. He's the Breaking Bad Master. His "THAT IS NOT MY NAME" speech is full of such presence and invokes a monstrous fear. In those 10 short minutes he carried more gravitas and threat than any other Master. More than Delgado who was a very one dimensional mustache twirling villain (Barry Letts was actually dissapointed with Delgado's performance in that respect). That's not to take away from any of the others, but Jacobi fully nailed it in that 10 minutes. You could just know by watching him that he was The Master, before he said it. I know it was unlikely to be anybody else but there was something Master-y in his whole performance. You could see all the previous Master's in him somehow, which never really happened since, despite the great performances. The excitement and tension ramping up has been my highlight of Doctor Who. I was shaking with excitement the moment that FOB watch came out. I wanted it to be my favourite villain so badly and Davies teased us. He made us wait for the confirmation. Then after that whispered "I AM THE MASTER" I screamed, turned to jelly, and fell off my chair. Everybody I was watching with thought I was a loon. Which is funny because Davies added that in the last minute. Originally there was no "I am The Master". The reveal was the "THE MASTER REBORN" line. But Davies thought it was unfair that Jacobi never got his "I am The Master" moment. Which Gomez didn't either. Unless "I'm Missy" counts. But yeah that point is Jacobi owns. If he had longer he would've been iconic. It's quality not quantity.
Jacobi and the rest (excluding Gomez) seemed like old-fashioned antagonists, grumpy old men with the cliche villain characteristics. But Simm (and Gomez) improved the character by far, they took the Master to a whole new level of "batshit crazy and young". It's like the move they did with the Doctor, taking our loved PTSD Doctor and almost completely changing his personality, unleashing a badass eccentric young character who can put on a decent performance. Ever since David marked his first major appearance in "The Christmas Invasion" I knew I was going to enjoy his run, and there was no doubt that I did. However, the way I think of Jacobi hooking the viewers a fair bit is probably because not of his strong performance but because of the whole reveal in general... the actual scene. It was a brilliant performance combined with great soundtrack and a lot of intensity. John Simm just didn't get enough of that, however I loved his recurring wittiness.
The Master confirmed for Assassin's Creed Unity
Was talking to a buddy online about that picture and thought it looked like something from Monsters Inc, then came across this: [T]http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/049/4/a/doctor_who_x_monsters_inc_by_melissadalton-d5vcyeu.jpg[/T]

Never underestimate the powers of Grizz and Dan to post good news first. I for one don't go 7 seconds without reading about Doctor Who. For most men that's the timescale for thinking about sex. Sometimes the two mix with less than perfect results.
GG, Doctor Who fans.
well, S8 has had some hits and misses for episodes but getting rid of Capaldi? how dare they. He's just getting warmed up.
Moffat was frustrated that nobody actually overheard the Rani thing during filming, it's not the first time a rumour he starts hasn't gone viral:
“When we did Day of the Doctor, we went to the trouble of having John Hurt’s character [an earlier regeneration of the Doctor] referred to as Omega throughout," he said. "Is nobody stealing scripts these days? What’s the matter with people?”
There we go. That's where all the rumours that John Hurt was playing Omega was coming form. And when the people saying he was Omega were proved wrong everybody laughed when they claimed "it was in the script!"

I think we can all agree that Grizz is the biggest fan out of all of us. She's awesome :v:
I think we can all agree that Grizz is the biggest fan out of all of us. She's awesome :v:
I love reading US articles about Doctor Who. They're so different from UK ones. It's like going back in time and reading UK articles from when Matt Smith started. I've seen a couple describe Matt Smith as the most popular Doctor since Tom Baker. There's also a few saying the ratings are sagging in the UK, which they're not and is exasperating whenever I see it. It's a whole strange new world of negative media.
I think we can all agree that Grizz is the biggest fan out of all of us. She's awesome :v:
I hate this show and I hate you all.
Grizz isn't even a girl either. Facebook clearly says Grizz is a middle aged man. From Mexico. Called Pablo. Really, you've all been fooled.
& Dan can confirm that all I do is complain about Doctor Who fans.
El Grizzo
Classic El Grizzo always starts conversations with "Hey Gringo, those Doctor Who fans are stealing our mules" and I just sit there going "Classic El Grizzo, raging against Doctor Who fans, the daft racist". In other news
The era of the Third Doctor will be returning to Big Finish, with two new stories featuring Tim Treloar as the narrator and as the voice of the Doctor, following his recreation of Jon Pertwee’s incarnation in the 50th anniversary story The Light at the End last year. He will appear alongside Katy Manning as Jo Grant and Richard Franklin as Captain Mike Yates in two new stories, Prisoners of the Lake by Justin Richards and The Havoc of Empires by Andy Lane. http://scifibulletin.com/2014/11/13/new-3rd-doctor-adventures-coming-from-big-finish/
Sweet. I don't mind Big Finish recasting dead Doctors. I guess it's easier to recast Pertwee due to the passage of time, I wonder if recasting Brig is an option. I can't really get into Big Finish. The ones I listened to (Light at the End and the first Tom Baker one) seem to be a little too self referential. It's actually no better than the JNT years of question mark shirts. Plus the audio direction is sometime a little off and you can have no idea what is going on. Especially when they're ambushed and fight a monster or something. Are there recommended Big Finish stories which sell the medium better?
You know how a lot of us thought that Missy was The Rani? Well, here's the current Rani: http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/meet-the-new-rani-64032.htm
Link doesn't work.
Are there recommended Big Finish stories which sell the medium better?
I'd recommend an eighth Doctor story. 'Terror Firma' is a good one imo.
I hate this show and I hate you all.
Just cause I'm not around to post m9, don't steal my thunder Wednesday night is Student Night, there's no negativity allowed in this thread til I'm back and recovered on Thursday! Dan, listen to Dark Eyes or Jubilee.
bring back based RTD.
Yeah, the man that gave us -The Slitheen -The Adipose -Love and Monsters -The doctor whining about losing rose for 2 series -Having the daleks make a system that a genius Human should use against them -Having the doctor turn in to a God and everything goes back to the way it was
There's a gross mis-remembrance that Doctor Who at some point was better than it is now. Not the case. People remember good episodes and blank out all the average and utter guff from over the years.
Phil approached the BBC with news of a massive find, but wanted funding. They gave him in on condition. He gave them Web, Enemy and Marco. Promised hundreds more. That gets leaked to DWO who go WHAAAAA and are then told to shush. The BBC gave Phil funding Meanwhile the source of the eps realised they were worth money and changed the goal posts. Getting them became tricky. The Beeb pushed Phil. He said he had them all but didn’t so stalled. And stalled. And stalled. He then started mouthing off about stuff, surmising and assuming. He told WW, the BFI, actors, the RT. He HAD this stuff, of course he does! People start to talk. We get wind of it from various avenues. But he doesn’t have it. Not really. In the meantime the Beeb are pointing every lead at him, because in their eyes he’s the ME Guy. He’s forced to precure sh*t copies of Power, Massacre and DMP but it’s grainy and some of its soundless. Useless. HE reckons his source has better copies. So he stalls. Starts a small RT of his own to clean up what he had. It’ll be better than nothing. Web and Enemy come out. Actors go mental. It’s not cleared properly. It stalls Marco. An estate of an actor in that doesn’t play ball. They’ve seen the popularity of the others and wants a bigger cut. Legality entails. The BBC go for Phil. Does he have the stuff? Cos if not they need their money back. Or they could absorb TIEA into BBCWW? Phil panics. Aarrgh. He’s promised this stuff. He’s told the BFI. He’s tried to arrange Press Conferences. He’s even showed Mark Gatiss bits of Power to prove it. But he doesn’t have the majority of it. So he goes online in a charm offensive. The winds in the right direction. Stay tuned. Don’t panic Captain Manwaring… etc etc Meanwhile, he still tries to procure the remains. So, in affect, everyone is RIGHT. And wrong. This is actually what happened. We’ve all been listening to various amounts of Phil’s spin. Do you see? It all makes sense. No one has anything of worth. Power is in limbo. UM was halted for the same thing – Phil thinks he will get a better copy. Same with Massacre and DMP. Marco’s in legal limbo. And no one can say whats what because until the RT get a hold of this stuff no one knows for sure if they have the Holy Grail or tins full of Balsamic. The BBC and BFI have lost patience. Phil has started paying funding back. His only way out is to get these things back from Africa. He WILL, he’s confident… but when? Could be tomorrow, could be 2019, could be in 100 years. He’s not lying, no one is. He’s just not being 100% truthful
This is according to a Bleeding Cool source. Holy shit?

Holy shit?
Geeze, finding missing episodes seemed so much simpler with the older reports. Stumble upon a copy in a private collection or junk bin, pull it out, give it to the BBC or restoration team, everyone rejoices. I understand the people behind this African collection is wanting retribution, but all the actor talk? Also funny enough, there was a kid on the Facebook page of a DW merch reviewer innocently saying he had old film reels that happened to all be missing episodes. Probably a troll, but I gave input where I could, but I doubt that's leading to anything.

Moffat on Capaldi Doctor forgetting the events of The Girl in the Fireplace:
The idea there was just that the Doctor gets to encounter an android that’s rebuilt itself so completely, it no longer remembers what it originally was, so he gets haunted by that. I also quite liked the idea that we would reference an old episode of Doctor Who for the people who would remember it - which turned out to be quite a few - and then have the Doctor unable to remember it himself. It sort of reminds you that he’s lived a very long and complicated life and not every detail we might remember is in his head. Also, there’s something about giving Capaldi the idea that he doesn’t remember the slushy episode when he fell in love with the girl, that’s gone. That was really all I was aiming for. We’re not going back to the clockwork droids… unless we are!
I was under the impression he forgot because it happened more than a thousand years ago for him
Which is sort of Moffat's point. But if Ten lived for 1000 years he wouldn't have forgotten a romance, Twelve doesn't regard it with importance
Not to mention he never learned the name of the ship in that episode, so it wouldn't have been tied with the memory of clockwork robots (and, like Moffat said, Twelve wouldn't be the type to dwell on his romantic adventures, so Madame de Pompadour wouldn't drive up a strong memory.)
