I wonder if the Doctor will ever forget a face?
Imagine if an old companion came back, and they had to remind him who they were..

Happy 55th Birthday, Paul McGann!
Bananas are good
Remember about a year or more ago I posted that rumour that Doctor Who was being considered to be taken away from the BBC and essentially privatised?
The thought behind it being that Doctor Who makes way more money than it actually costs to make, but the BBC aren't allowed to use it on Doctor Who (confused foreign readers: BBC is funded by the public. It's essentially paid for by tax. The BBC has to fairly distribute that money. The cost of that tax was raising every year to keep up with inflation but the government froze it so the BBC has less money every year. So the Doctor Who budget is essentially shrinking).
The rumour spreaders said that Doctor Who would somehow become independent, but under the greater control of BBC Worldwide, and would be able to pay for itself from selling merchandise and series to foreign countries. As part of the plan in 2016 it would transition from the BBC to BBC Worldwide and there would be a hiatus. Talk of hollywood movies, 2005-esque-reboot series to follow, new big name Doctor. The rumour became a game of chinese whispers. The main point of it:
BBC gives show to BBC Worldwide and a bigger budget allowing it to support itself as a brand, for many many many years.
It was really complicated and I've probably muddled specifics but that was the outline of the rumour. Apparently other parts of the BBC would move too.
It all disappeared though. People's general thoughts were "The BBC will never move it's content into the commercial".
Breaking news. BBC could be moving content into the commercial
So could Doctor Who be one of the dramas that want to make the jump? Could the rumour be true?

Wasn't there a bit in one of the series finales when the girl from the episode in the library -or something similar- grew up and helped the doctor and the doctor was like "oh yeah I remember you! Boy what an adventure we had!" then she died and he said something along the lines of "I don't remember her" then sad music kicked in the doctor pulls his best 'Give us a BAFTA' face and I swore at the screen.

Nope.
It sounds vaguely like the girl in Demons Run who's planet was saved by The Doctor when she was little and she was a big fan of him. Then she died but she was just glad to meet him. It was to make him realise what he does to people, turn them into soldiers and kill them. A message which is reused far too bloody often. I can't remember if he did remember her or not, I think he did.

It was planned The Doctor would meet Meglos in The Lodger and not remember them. It was apparently a very funny scene.

I don't think he did remember her. I think he says something like "Who was she? She was brave. They're all brave in the end"
Might just be chatting shit though

I thought the implication was that he hadn't saved her from his point of view yet and he was lying to her as she was dying to make her feel better.
Been thinking more about current or recent writers involved who could potentially form the next regime. Brian Minchin should stick around as Executive Producer (he seems to have been a blessing), joined by somebody like Toby Whithouse. But perhaps throw in another permanent writer in there. Yes, the likes of Jamie Mathieson or Gareth Roberts. Of the current complement, I don't see an RTD or Moffat in there - somebody strong enough to confidently plot out a series by themselves. Sharing the showrunner load between solid writers and experienced producers would be much more tempting to potential leads, I would imagine.
Yes, I'm avoiding the Gatiss & Thompson scenario - because personally it wouldn't be what I would want to see - though wouldn't rule it out. But failing all of this, a hiatus and a regroup wouldn't come as a surprise. The RTD -> Moffat turnaround was almost too slick to be replicated.

Incidentally, the Doctor Who preview will be on BBC CiN soon.
The Doctor Who preview was just on, and it shows Clara back (as if there were any doubts :v:)
Yep.
I hope the episode is just straight up called 'The Doctor and Santa'.
Father Who
I hope we get a beard instead of Capald-eyes in the intro
Santa certainly got an air of sinisterness in that preview.
Geeze, if it turns out he's the monster of the week, a lot of kids are going to end up traumatized. At least it airs after the presents come (or am I assuming much from BBC America airtimes?)
The entire Santa thing has to be handled VERY carefully in respect to younger children.

What was that thing Moffat said about taking an object which is in every child's home (in this case, Santa Claus) and making every child in Britain terrified of it?
Maybe it's not really Santa but something awful masquerading as him.

For the ones who hasn't seen it yet
I'm surprised i didn't think of this sooner or someone has and i just didn't see it but, this just hit me point blank.
[sp]I think clara was going to tell pink she was pregnant at the beginning of dark water before he got ran over, that was probably why she was acting so nervous over the phone and had post it stamps all over the place. Thats were im thinking the future relatives from listen come in at. [/sp]
i love the christmas specials every year. this one looks great! i don't even mind that clara is in it.
Clara was always gonna be here at Christmas after the Santa scene last week.
The only people who have an excuse to be surprised are those that turned off during the credits.

Or didn't read multiple interviews since August stating that Jenna is in the Christmas Special :v:
To be fair there were just as many saying she might not be. Specially ones with Peter
Nah, PC just "walked the fucking line."
"Well I’m not looking for a new assistant," he said. "I don’t know where these rumours have started. I’ve read that she may be leaving at Christmas but I don’t even know if she’ll get to Christmas... You’ve got to just watch and wait and see."
Waters Of Mars got aired five years ago today. Fantastic episode with a proper dilemma for the Doctor about whether to let a group of people live or die.
Waters of Mars is definitely in my personal top three favourite episodes. I'd be hard pushed to rank those top three.
Is one of the elves Dan Starkey?

I think the great thing about it is that each option that The Doctor has to decide on isn't an 100% right one. Each comes with its own drawbacks and consequences.
