Just imagine: In a few years time, Capaldi quits the role. A new doctor is cast. This doctor is highly successful, remaining for several series, but eventually decides to move on and a new actor takes on the role. The year is now 2021, the current doctor has been in the role for a few years, and decides to step down. At the end of this doctor's final episode, when all seems lost, there's a knock on the TARDIS door. A familiar voice calls out: "Doctor? You know it can't end like that." In walks Santa Claus, making the doctor realise he's still in the dream state. He wakes up, and it's still Capaldi, he's been laying on that volcano for the last 7 years. He jumps up and goes to fetch Clara. Before the credits roll, we see the message "THE DOCTOR AND CLARA WILL RETURN IN 2022" *cue theme tune*
Then The Ninth Doctor wakes up on Gallifrey. Romana is sitting with her arms crossed looking grumpy. "I heard you dreaming. What the fuck does 'the Timelords are all dead' mean?" "Oh er... it was just a dream" "You thought it was real" "No I-" "You actually thought you were once John Hurt?" "Well I-" "You're a fucking idiot" The two sit in silence. The Doctor sulks, feeling daft. Romana sighs loudly and an annoyed confused expression spreads across her face. "Did The Master having tits not give it away?" The Doctor storms out crying.
In between the scene where he left Clara and the final scene he fell asleep and was in the dream state with the face hugger thing. He put his hoodie on inbetween then and going to Clara's rooftop.
Jesus I am having a hard time understanding this, can someone help me out? [editline]27th December 2014[/editline]

What did they say at the start before talking about the mistletoe. [editline]27th December 2014[/editline] Just found out the son of the 2nd Doctor was in the special.
What was with the tangerines, is that a british thing or something?

Oh wait never mind took me a while to see the spinning top
christmas special it was okay
Last Christmas: AI of 82 It used to be rare to fall under 85... now it's the other way around. They can't handle the Capaldi. How they could have enjoyed that less than Time of The Doctor...

I think the tangerine is just their way in saying that Father Christmas dose exist -which lays into that pic' that Matt Smith's Doctor held up- and 'haha pop culture reference!'. I don't expect it to be setting anything up as that would mean that Moffat has to write a story-arch that dose actually run for a series and not just the odd mention every other episode.
So I guess the Santa which 11 met was actually just a man in a costume called Jeff.
So, you know how the reason for so many humanoid species looking like people is that the Time Lords spread their genetic code around? Well, what if the Doctor really is the reincarnation of the Other as per the old plan for the Seventh Doctor, and the reason why people keep popping up that resemble his incarnations (even other Time Lords like Colin Baker's face) is because of his near-Godlike status? That could also explain why the Doctor ends up returning to 'old faces'. I hope The Doctor stops getting slapped next series.
I hope The Doctor stops getting slapped next series.
I really hope people stop telling people to "Shut up" and say they're going to do a "thing" I feel like Moffat put them in the Christmas Special to spite that one Caretaker reviewer who pointed it out.
I really liked it. At no point did I feel like Moffat pulled shit out of nowhere to resolve the plot or did some bendy wendy stuff just to be smart. Also it highlighted why I love 12. The way he commanded everyone around was great. And his reactions to pretty much anything were fantastic. Then again, unlike 99% of the world, I don't wake up every morning and practice darts with a picture of Clara and Danny so there's that.
What was with the tangerines, is that a british thing or something?
Its a thing in Canada (or at least my family) as well
I was genuinely convinced that [sp] Real-world Clara was going to be pregnant.[/sp]... guess that plot was abandoned. Also the blonde girl was adorable.
who says she's not pregnant? series 9 could reveal that easily.
Anybody else watching the marathon on BBC America? It's nifty they're playing the series for 5 days straight, but I'm curious why Eccelsons season is left out. It's not like there isn't time for it (scrolling through my guide, episodes will loop in a day or two), and all of the promo material is of Tennant, Smith, and Capaldi, so I'm guessing it's deliberate on their part.
Why do they keep bringing back Clara? There is literally no plot they could shoehorn her into that could even remotely keep her interesting. I mean I guess she's supposed to be a foil to the doctor and thats great... But if I see another plot where she single handedly saves the doctor I'm going to summon the ghost of plot writers past to kick moffat in the nads. [editline]27th December 2014[/editline] Like seriously it's almost to the point where Clara almost leaving is a consistent theme. It's like she's that girl that keeps going back to an abusive boyfriend
who says she's not pregnant? series 9 could reveal that easily.
Last Christmas took place 6 months from Death in Heaven I believe. Moffat stated he wanted Orson to be from another branch of Danny's family.
The new Christmas episode is definitely better than the whole eighth season, IMO. But I really can't get all that Danny Pink-ish thing. His character isn't presented the right way: he'd been in the show only for a half of a season! Killing him permanently was a weird idea, especially after taking a look back into Rory's storyline.
Moffat explains in the new DWM: "I can think of several explanations, but the obvious one is that Orson comes from another branch of the family. He knows about Danny’s heroic sacrifice, because Clara got in touch with the Pink family after the events of Death in Heaven (because you would, wouldn’t you?), and told them what he did, and why. And she gave them the little soldier, as a keepsake of a great man and a great soldier – and because she knows the toy soldier has to remain in the Pink family line"
I don't care if it's boring or somehow patronizing, but I don't mind definitive answers in the show... honest :v: It's just a courtesy to the audience.
And she gave them the little soldier, as a keepsake of a great man and a great soldier – and because she knows the toy soldier has to remain in the Pink family line
But, she gave it to the Doctor already. Is she going to get it back and give it to them offscreen?
But, she gave it to the Doctor already. Is she going to get it back and give it to them offscreen?
Don't ask questions.
Looking back I think Last Christmas is my third favourite episode from 2014. I'd give it an 8.5/10.
But, she gave it to the Doctor already. Is she going to get it back and give it to them offscreen?
Oh yeaaaaaah, wait a second... I don't know why Moffat is even suggesting that, because surely it remained "in the family" regardless of when Danny died? Why would Clara even need to take it back... wouldn't they then just have two of it? :v:
I can see what they were trying to do. But I didn't love it.
Oh yeaaaaaah, wait a second... I don't know why Moffat is even suggesting that, because surely it remained "in the family" regardless of when Danny died? Why would Clara even need to take it back... wouldn't they then just have two of it? :v:
it has to remain in the family so that orson can give it to clara in listen as otherwise she knew she'd be rewriting time as her not giving to giving it to orson would also mean the doctor never gets it. it seems like a small thing but who knows what could happen if the doctor never got it. here's the timeline: danny gets the solider as a child in listen > danny dies > clara finds the solider in his apartment or something > clara gives the solider to a relative from another branch of danny's family > at some point clara tells stories about her time with the doctor to orson & co and orson just calls her a grandmother for easiness > orson gives the soldier back to clara in listen > clara gives the solider to the young doctor > the doctor probably loses it at some point
it has to remain in the family
Just working off the assumption Danny's family would have had it without Clara's intervention - once they presumably collected his belongings. Unlike the Afghan child who needed his parents found. I do wonder how Clara set about dealing with that :v:
I think it is fair to say that Moffat just tends to not to plan these things out, least we forget this is a guy who put a T-Rex in the thames because it looked awesome even if it added nothing to the story and made no sense.
The t-rex was fine. It made sense because the Doctor was going nuts and thus flying around everywhere - a crazy guy driving a time machine is sure to make some weird stuff happen. It also added to the story as it showed off just how crazy the Doctor was going as well as being the catalyst for him to get out of bed and ride the horse to try and save it, leading to it also being the reason for him and Clara being separated giving the Doctor time to sort himself out a bit. I think some people confuse something being out of the ordinary with just randomly adding something in. (Also don't give me that bs with 'well those things could have been replaced with X or Y'. You could say that about literally any element from any story ever.)
