Because they spoil absolutely nothing maybe? It just clarifies what they fucking meant and the marketing. I've spoiler tagged the actual spoilers.
No? You spoilered who John Hurt is, why he's there etc. Not everyone knows who the fuck he is, he's just been announced as "The Doctor" at the moment, not everyone knows he's [sp]Between McGann and Ecclestone[/sp]
Judging from the idiots on Youtube comments it's common knowledge. Where else would he fit in? It's painfully obvious he's a time-war Doctor but if you insist. Edit: When I went to click edit the SP tags were already in. Looks like a mod beat me to it.
I'd still like a photoshop saying INTRODUCING JOHN HURT as PLEASE
I was stupid enough to think that the Doctor's actual name was "Please" and almost lost my shit but then I just kept watching and everything was alright
I never saw him there. Thought it was supposed to just be showing where future Clara grew up. Eight had a VERY brief appearance too. I thought they were the two Doctors not to appear.

Well, the last time I visited this thread was when I experienced the regeneration from nine to ten, so I figured it'd be appropriate to come back when I made it to eleven. All I have to say about that last episode is that it was some heavy shit. [sp]maybe I shouldn't stay too long, spoilers and whatnot[/sp]

i don't get it what's john hurt supposed to be is he the new doctor or what
JOHN HURT'S ROLE IN THE SHOW [SUB](spoiler tagged to be safe)[/SUB] [sp] John Hurt is the incarnation of the Time Lord self-proclaimed as "The Doctor", who existed during the Last Great Time War between Paul McGann's incarnation and Christopher Eccleston's incarnation. McGann regenerated into Hurt, Hurt into Eccleston. Doctor 8.5. A fully fleshed Time Lord, but not the Doctor. Not 100% confirmed since we didn't see it happening, but he is the Time Lord that used the Moment to end the Time War, destroying the Daleks and Time Lords. He was seen as in S07E13 The Name of the Doctor, after Clara and the Doctor jumped into the Doctor's timeline. Since the Doctor once was this man, he appeared with the other incarnations. Smith's incarnation rejects Hurt's incarnation's actions during the Time War after Hurt said "I did what I needed to do for the good of peace, and sanity" to which Smith replied that it wasn't in the name of the Doctor. Just as Clark Kent/Kal-El's vessel to deliver good and justice through is Superman, John Smith/the unnamed Time Lord self-dubbed the Doctor's vessel of justice is The Doctor. The name is a promise to do that. John Hurt broke his promise by finishing the Time War with the Moment and so therefore isn't counted as a Doctor by his future incarnations. John Hurt is the ninth incarnation of the Time Lord that is called the Doctor, but Christopher Eccleston is still the Ninth Doctor. It is a true Scotsman fallacy. It is quite possible he forcefully regenerated out of shame, to leave the incarnation in the Time Lock and move forward.[/sp] Add this to the OP so it doesn't have to be typed again or accidentally revealed to those who don't know, please. He's also a pretty major character, deserves a place up there.
I think you've made some mistake in your assumption of Clara's agency. She's been solely lacking in anything regarding a personality. When she "takes charge" it's because she's doing exactly what the Doctor told her to do. Unlike other companions which disobey the Doctor and go off and have adventures, Clara does exactly what he says and the story goes on regardless. I really wanted to like Clara after seeing Asylum of the Daleks because I felt like she was going to be a really interesting character. Rory and Amy were both fantastic and I had high hopes. However Clara received little to know characterization and basically just was there to follow the Doctor around. Disappointing.*
google plus discussions are the best ugh, amy was really not all that great, rory was better i'm sure this dudes favorite was rose

He is now Doctorman, defender of the universe.

It'd be a one hell of a twist in the sense that it truly WAS hidden in plain sight, it'd be pretty depressing in the sense that his name is "full of sorrow" or whatever, but it'd also be pretty fucking stupid because of all the previous reasons AND just overall dumb because what the fuck Care to clarify how this is dumb?
[sp]The line about peace and everything sort of sealed for me the notion that Hurt was the Time War-era Doctor. The whole bit at the end with the JOHN HURT AS THE DOCTOR completely ruined the emotion that had been created by the actors though. Felt more like a massive tongue-in-cheek parody than part of the actual episode. It was, overall though, a good ep! Clara's acting/dialogue is still a bit iffy though, and that repeated montage of her falling was rubbish. They could have built River's 'ghost' up some more throughout the series though as some sort of apparition that appears to Clara but not to the Doctor - that would have set that scene with the Doctor talking to River much better than 'lol I was here for 5 mins but you can actually see me wow why are you pretending I am invisible'. Doctor's writing/acting when he was dying was a bit nasty too; didn't really have a lot of feeling in it.[/sp]
I don't know why, but when i think of join hurt it reminds me of love hurts song.
John hurt Ooo, yes John hurt Ooo yes John hurt John hurt
Why can Matt Smith and David Tennant never be on screen together? Because it's a paradox! A pair-o'-Docs... A.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Em8lmmTNkA [SUB]No spoilers! Embed or media tags not working, sorry folks.[/SUB] I'm unsure if this has been posted, but it's Matt Smith and David Tennant talking about being The Doctor. I wonder who the character they say they can't talk about is? [sp]Rose? The Ninth? Omega? The Hurt Doctor?[/sp]
Right guys, I'm going to do a best of the best stream this Friday/Saturday and I'm really interested in what your favourite episodes are. Please post itt with your favourite/what you consider to be the best episode from each series - two parters allowed, obviously starting from 2005
I don't know if you care at all, but I was going to choose The Ninth Doctor's "Dalek". But then I realised if everyone chose as I did and you streamed them all in one night there'd be less interest. To avoid running out of episodes by making the theme really broad make it a challenge. Try not to include any "classic" enemies; Silurian, Cyberman, Dalek, The Master, Sontaran or Ice Warriors. Save them for next week, I'll pop in. Just a bit of speculation. For this week though, I'll vote for Midnight.

I wonder who the character they say they can't talk about is? [sp]Rose? The Ninth? Omega? The Hurt Doctor?[/sp]
It's [sp]The Hurt Doctor[/sp]. They're in many scenes together. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm not sure I liked the "INTRODUCING JOHN HURT AS THE DOCTOR". It seemed a bit slutty? It was making it sound like the twist was "We managed to cast John Hurt" instead of "Here's a Doctor nobody knows anything about". I would've far preferred HurtDoctor to say something like "You can't ignore my existence forever. Soon our time streams will converge and you will be forced to face your past" then Eleven could walk away and HurtDoctor shouts "You can't ignore me! I am The Doctor!" and then have the TO BE CONTINUED. Then you don't break the 4th wall to show off your casting and it teases the special directly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The most exciting thing about the Hurt Doctor is the nature of his story means you can finally cast an actor over 60 in the role. The part is usually too demanding and requires a lot of work, but Hurt Doctor is only one story. I wonder what other actors over 60 were considered? Patrick Stewart? Ian McKellen? (space Gandalf) Michael Caine? David Jason? John Cleese? All those actors that would make great Doctors but simply never be able to be on set as much as the role demands. The other unique thing about Hurt Doctor is John Hurt is the first actor to be under no pressure for the role. Nobody in the world will doubt the abilities of legend John Hurt, plus as he's a past Doctor we haven't got to worry he'll be awful every week.

basically anything written by moffat during RTD's era
this is actually a really good idea I think I'll do that instead actually ok guys, tell me your favourite episodes that don't include any classic monsters.
First episode of S4 whose name eludes me.
