i think strax is brilliant
Trackboy has spoken out a fair bit about the 50th. He says when fans look back at the 50th in future years they will be disappointed. He compared it to the underwhelming reaction to Series 7. He also explained one of his hints from earlier in the year. Last year he posted: 612997116137147 This week he posted the solution: 6 (coloured),129 (twice),97,116,137,147 They're episode numbers, the ones that were used at the start of TNOTD. He's known about this since last year. Regarding Eccleston in the 50th: [sp]He was all ready to do it. It was a major role involving the time war and what he did during it. He asked to see the script. It wasn't ready (the production team is terrible at timing) so they said they couldn't show him it and then asked him to sign anyway. He asked again. They still said no, told him to sign first and then he'd get it later. They got quite rude. He told them where to stick it. The Hurt sequence was filmed 2 weeks ago. Chris was known to have not been involved a long enough time ago, so Moffat had time and made the plans for a forgotten Doctor. Hurt is playing 9 through and through. Had some dialogue tweeks but you'll still be able to tell.[/sp] Regarding big bad of the 50th: [sp]It's not Omega[/sp]. That's against what Timeboy said. TDT said it's [sp]Daleks[/sp]. What Trackboy is saying is totally different to everything else posted from sources. How odd. But he's NEVER been wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To wash that bad taste of Christopher Eccleston out of your mouth. Here's a lovely story. Chris was doing theatre in 2009. At stage door he would sign things for Doctor Who fans. A young child called Dillon was there and told Chris how much he loved his Doctor and how he wants to grow up to write Doctor Who one day. Chris was clearly moved and said to Dillon that when he writes for Doctor Who, he will willingly come back and star in it for him. He even shook on it and promised it very publicly It was after this Chris came from "I will never to that again" to "I might do it someday" to "I think I'm going to do it". Wish Dillon was writing the 50th.
reading this stuff coming from these oddly-named anonymous "men on the inside" makes me feel like i'm in a spy thriller

What's a more gripping focus for the story: Having 9 simply come out and focus on exactly what horrible things he did in the Time War, or have an entire new regeneration come out whose crimes were so bad that the rest of the Doctors don't even want to acknowledge his existence?[/sp]
The former.
No. While it would be nice to have 9, the other story is more interesting. Just wish it was [sp]The 8th Doctor. Wanna know why we have no adventures of 8? The Doctor wants to forget him.[/sp]
No. While it would be nice to have 9, the other story is more interesting.
You should try sounding less like that question has some kind of right and wrong answer. Because, you know, it's opinion-based.
but i thought Dan's opinion was the right answer :o
rifftrax just sent this in a newsletter think you guys might like it, they riffed "Dr Who and the Daleks" http://www.rifftrax.com/vod/dr-who-and-daleks
Guys turns out I know a friend of a friend who is a cleaner for the bbc and claims that John Hurt is actually [sp]The Shalka Doctor[/sp]
TDT said it's [sp]Daleks[/sp].
Yeah that's getting old.
Yeah that's getting old.
not really [sp]haven't seen a good dalek story in a good long while and its the 50th, it HAS to have daleks. Save the imaginary weird new villains and 'new episodes' for something that isn't a celebration of a shows lengthy heritage[/sp]
are you shitting me, we saw amy's parents for like 3 scenes in one episode and they were never heard from again, and they were flat, cardboard characters that were used solely as plot devices. they didn't have any personality. ditto for clara's parents. the exception is rory's dad of course, I dunno why the same treatment wasn't given to amy's parents. I mean, I don't even remember the names of clara's and amy's parents, I dunno if they're even ever said onscreen. whereas the families of rose, martha and donna are all well-written, interesting characters, jackie and wilf in particular.
Actually, I take my original statement about families back. You're right.
I hope Claras dad has an episode with us next year. Whenever we hear about him I think he sounds interesting. Would be nice. It's the one thing I miss from the RTD era. The exploration of the family. It makes the companion seem real and grounded. We've done the story where a companion goes back to see their dead relative (in this case Claras mum) but what if they accidentally brought Claras dad with them for that. Maybe we find out how she died? [editline]23rd May 2013[/editline] Perhaps because whenever a childish alien is introduced people complain a shit storm. Isn't Strax exactly one of those? Ood is hardly gone either.
Clara's dad sort of looks interesting. Like someone that would be in torchwood. Is it me or does he look way too young to be Clara's dad I thought they looked like brother & sister when standing by her mums grave
Nah he looked like a dad.
a cool dad
a cool dad with a cool coat
[sp]Hurt is playing 9 through and through. Had some dialogue tweeks but you'll still be able to tell.[/sp]
[sp]Are you saying that he's replacing Eccleston, or that he's the Ninth Incarnation, but not the Ninth Doctor? I'm so confused, but I don't want an Eccleston replacement. Nine was great the way he was, and I prefer the explanation that the John Hurt Doctor was a forgotten incarnation. Personally, I refer to him as Doctor 8.5. It's less confusing that way.[/sp]
[sp]Does that mean we don't even get the "brief" scene with 9? =([/sp]
Who knows. [sp]Billie Pipers husband allegedly told somebody that "they're all in it" when asked about past Doctors returning. When specifically asked about Chris he reiterated "They're ALL in it". The later Doctors may choose to ignore the HurtDOctor but he is still The Doctor even if his later incarnations disagree with a decision he made. No mater what he did, he did it in the name of peace and sanity. To me that's The Doctor all over.[/sp] [editline]24th May 2013[/editline] A few weeks ago somebody posted on GB about the multi-doctors appearing in the pre credits scene with a detailed description. The post was ignored, nobody believed it. It turned out to be true. Here's some other things that person revealed about the 50th plot and Hurt Doctor, this a direct quote of their post:
[sp]Also time guns in the 50th firing people back in time and it featuring the Daleks and the time war. They mentioned all the stuff about Hurt and that he is the real 9th Doctor. Didn't believe a word of it at the time looks like I was wrong after what Hurt has said to the press and what is in THe Sun today. he also mentioned it was Hurt's Doctor that is the villain of the 50th as it is him that ends the time war so that sliver of ice thing may ring true. Also something about Hurt's Doctor urging the first doctor to steal the Tardis fbefore he destroys gallfrey? Anyone heard that one?[/sp]
I posted that last one before. Interesting now he was right about the multi-doctor pre-titles. [editline]24th May 2013[/editline] Strax to Sontar http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p019hr50 "this one looks like a battle hardened warrior" yesssss
Am I the only person who dislikes the Daleks? They don't feel threatening at all; I may have said this before, but still. (and they look stupid)
Daleks are the most iconic thing to come from British fiction. You did not just say they look stupid.
Daleks are the most iconic thing to come from British fiction. You did not just say they look stupid.
u wot m8
Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen recorded a scene for Series 4. Originally the Shadow Proclamation was to be made from various aliens. But budgeting a timing stopped this happening. One of these aliens was Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen who had been reborn as an egg and lived a law abiding life. The recording has been archived for future use. [editline]24th May 2013[/editline]
u wot m8
Like them or hate them. The Daleks are an instantly recognisable image associated with Doctor Who all around the world after a blue police box.
Expanded canon allude to him being Yog-Sothoth.
Aye; that's how I see him too. They also refer to Fenric as Hastur the Unspeakable, if we acknowledge the novel All-Consuming Fire. Also I still think that we have not seen the last of the Great Intelligence, since even though "Yog-Sothoth Prime" was destroyed when he entered the Soul Rift, there are now countless others across time and space, which may have greatly-unsettling repercussions if you think about it. Instead of one formless Lovecraftian entity, there are now possibly an infinite number of Yog-Sothoth. And if he still has a body buried in some forgotten corner of the universe, he may likely seek it out in an attempt to plunge the universe into eldritch horror, like the Beast almost succeeded in doing when he sent his mind out to possess Toby in the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit two-parter. Speaking of which, "The Satan Pit" does seem like a weird title; something about the structure of the name doesn't seem right. Something like The Demon's Pit or The Devil's Pit woulda fit better. Regardless, it makes me wonder what would happen if the "pre-verse eldritch gods" eventually came together, like the Great Intelligence, the Beast, Fenric and the Nestene Consciousness. Also, if GI is Yog-Sothoth, the Beast is some sort of demon, Fenric is Hastur, and the Nestene Consciousness is the kid of Shub-Niggurath, then who is Cthulhu? I think Cthulhu was referenced in the novel White Darkness, though I think that was a Bernice Summerfield novel.
Not strictly Who related but I stumbled upon this here [t]http://24.media.tumblr.com/0adbf13b8787933cd314d770362b94a2/tumblr_mn9mxzz7QK1rsjd4ho1_500.jpg[/t] Hubba
Found it interesting one of the names for The Doctor according to GI is "The Beast" Doctor...?!
"The Beast" could be artistic license; there's more than one "beast" in the universe, even though there's only one The Beast pre-universal eldritch horror, like there's only one The Goose type of dog-worrying machine.
Regardless, it makes me wonder what would happen if the "pre-verse eldritch gods" eventually came together,
I really want a story set during this time. Include one of the oldest species in the universe, The Weeping Angles, before they became what they are now. Why do they weep? What happened? Almost a Genesis Of The Weeping Angels type story with pre-verse gods and mythology coming to life.
