Why is it ironic?
So I was watching The Keys of Marinus (An original Dr.Who Ep with the first) and I noticed that it didn't make sense at all. I thought it was because of the previous Serial (Marco Polo) having missing episodes. I then finish the episode, go to wikipedia and I see that I saw the last ep in "The Keys of Marinus" Serial instead of the first.
Why is it ironic?
It's not. Casting Jimmy Savile after the scandal would be though.
Meanwhile in the casting offices for Doctor Who: Steven Moffat: What's the progress on casting the next Doctor? Brian Minchin: Jimmy Savile. Still dead. Steven Moffat: Blast!
Richard Griffiths was considered for the doctor? that would have meant the whole Withnail & I crew would have played the doctor. would have been cool. :(
Maybe because the 20-year old competition was her mum.
What kind of Doctor would hesitate to investigate that!?
Why is it ironic?
do you know what BBC stands for in america
do you know what BBC stands for in america
No, enlighten us please.
i wonder how morgan freeman would do as the doctor probably a lot of voiceover monologues as he travels through space and time
mandingo
And here I was like a fool thinking it stood for "British Broadcasting Company/Corporation". How do you get "mandingo" out of "BBC" anyway?
Catching up on Classic Who. I intended to a while back but lazyness got the better of me. Anyway, noticed this in the credits. Series 7 had some incredibly memorable moments Matt is a really good actor
When this series started, I posted here that I would try not to critically pick apart every episode and just enjoy them as they come. Series 7 turned out to be a genre-exploiting, fan-pleasing rollercoaster. Besides the occasional mis-step with pacing, I damn well enjoyed it. Loved every second of Smith & Coleman in 7b.
I really wish they wouldn't keep the references just for occasions like this. Moments like when the Doctor said something along the lines of "Just pop the umbrella in the stand over there! I have o- at least.. I had one." Pretty effortless, adds depth and to people just jumping into the series it adds intrigue to get to know the character further. It just really expands the show without trying to reinvent tit to whatever might sell this year. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] ironically, that's exactly what would sell this year. I just hope they keep it going.
Looking back at the episodes, they're all good. If this was an unbroken 13 episode run it would be highly regarded. It has a certain flow to it. All the gaps between series' lead to a build up of expectations that can never be met. There were missteps but hopefully ones Moffat will recognise and tweak. For this reason I'm far more excited for Series 8 than the 50th. I can't wait to see where it will go as we begin the next 50 years. Smith/Coleman is a great team. I hope the rumours of that team changing aren't entirely true. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] At Collectormania Billie Piper was asking people if they were looking foward to the 50th and that things aren't what they seem. Interpret that however you want. Combined with Moffats comments at the BAFTAS I'm sure a lot of us will be taking that as involvement of certain actors. Have they explained yet how no-one noticed the Statue of Liberty move from its spot?
what is that he's holding
A fish [editline]28th May 2013[/editline]
Have they explained yet how no-one noticed the Statue of Liberty move from its spot?
When Clara fragmented herself across time and space, one Clara was born in New York. She threw a massive party and invited everybody. As a result nobody saw Statue of Liberty run around because the were too busy playing the biggest game of Twister in the world.
Have they explained yet how no-one noticed the Statue of Liberty move from its spot?

“The Angels can do so many things. They can bend time, climb inside your mind, hide in pictures, steal your voice, mess with your perception, leak stone from your eye… New York in 1938 was a nest of Angels and the people barely more than farm animals. The abattoir of the lonely assassins! "In those terrible days, in that conquered city, you saw and understood only what the Angels allowed, so Liberty could move and hunt as it wished, in the blink of an eye, unseen by the lowly creatures upon which it preyed. Also, it tiptoed.”
Moffat's response.
Rings of Akathen song is on my mind now. Shit lyrics + good orchestration of a bad melody and a good voice + monologue. I wasn't meant to cry...
Bit of controversy. Radio Times have posted an interview with John Simm. In it he says this:
I do get a lot of Doctor Who [recognition]. God almighty, I'll be so happy when that's gone from my life. [The fans are] lovely, I'm sure, but I won't miss it. It's great to be into something, but for goodness' sake, really? I'm not the Master, I'm not that evil Time Lord who rules the galaxy, I'm just in Tesco with my kids. Leave me alone!
John got some nasty backlash from fans on Twitter who were saying he wasn't being appreciative of his time on the show and the support from all his fans over the years. Simm flat out denies ever saying that quote. Infact he denies even being interviewed.
To 'Whovians' or whoever. It's a non story. I always try to be polite to fans and am v proud of my time in the show. You can choose to believe what you like but I really meant no offence. I've obviously pissed off some bored journalist coz I wouldn't do an interview. Stopped doing print interviews a while ago coz of this, if you see one its either old or thrown together. TV, Radio, or here. rest is bullshit
But Radio Times insist he did this interview last year while on set for Mad Dogs:
Far from 'doing a number' on John Simm, Radio Times published a wide-ranging 1,200-word interview with an actor our readers admire, who - as we said in the piece - is unquestionably on top of his game. We didn’t even ask John a question about Doctor Who, he chose to bring it up himself. The interview was conducted almost a year ago on set in South Africa while John was shooting the new series of Mad Dogs. It's running in this week's issue of Radio Times because the programme is now being broadcast on Sky 1.
Simm responds:
I don't fkin shop in Tesco
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonus story of the day: Mark Gatiss tweeted how much he loves Roger Moore. Moore replied asking to be in Doctor Who or Sherlock. Gatiss replied "My life is complete. Will be in touch". I'm all for having Moore Bond actors in Doctor Who.

So I Just watched Planet of the Dead last night after seeing Waters of Mars a week ago, and I just think it's so cool how polar opposite the specials are, mood-wise. PoTd is lighthearted and fun, while WoM is really dark and foreboding. The "He will knock four times" parts are opposite too. In PoTd, The Doctor just brushes it aside like "Huh, thats weird. Oh well, off I go." while in WoM, he's practically fearing for his life. I wish Moffat would do some longer specials with one-off companions, those are really fun and a great test of writing, I think.
The Christmas specials are the same length and sort of thing. Though it crowbars Christmas in. Not every show that does a Christmas special makes Christmas the main event. I'd just like it as an excuse to have a long episode. [editline]28th May 2013[/editline]
@Dan2593 Seems Omega is back! And he's dragging a New Gallifrey behind him!
Just got that on Twitter from a user called "Whistleblower". Not this attention seeker again! Disregard all they say. They admitted to being a fraud last month. Not sure why their first tweet was to me of all the people in the world. I don't really tweet about Doctor Who which means they found me through here or Gallifreybase. Either way I've got a Who stalker. Lovely.
I really loved those specials. Pretty much all of them are at the top of my favourites.
I remember at the time they did not go down that well apart from Waters of Mars. 1 episode of Doctor Who every 3/4 months was not easy for fans to deal with.
On Saturday, November 23, fans can expect an extended Who episode featuring two Doctors - Matt Smith and David Tennant, one might-be-Doctor - John Hurt, two companions - Jenna-Louise Coleman and Billie Piper, and a magnificent medley of monsters... Plus, there's Mark Gatiss's 'origins' docu-drama An Adventure in Space and Time, a London-based 3-day convention or '50th Celebration Weekend', and - we're assured - lots of other top-secret stuff yet to be announced...
Read more: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-who/tubetalk/a485087/doctor-who-50th-sherlock-24-return-cult-tv-events-of-2013-14.html#ixzz2Ucr6uQok Digital Spy on the Who 50th. "lots of other top secret stuff yet to be announced". I think I know what that is. - [sp]The Paul McGann scene[/sp] - [sp]Matt's final episode (the press have known for a while)[/sp] - Gatiss is making a sort of "Best of Doctor Who" clip show with lots of interviews. Will also include new specially filmed sequences staring past Doctors returning to the role. - A live show to go out after the special. Believed by many to be a stream of the Q&A happening at the official convention. - An animation show of some sort (this was cancelled, all info including awesome concept art can be found here) That's the stuff I've heard about that hasn't been announced.
