- An animation show of some sort (this was cancelled, all info including awesome concept art can be found here)
This has to happen.
The possibilities are ENDLESS. We can have the actors returning to their roles without having to run or do fancy things. We can have new adventures or new takes on old ones. It could even turn into a selection process for new Who writers: write a great story for the animated show, get a call from the Beeb and then get asked to write on the actual show.
BTW, in case anyone was unaware, Hurt's line: "What I did I did for peace and sanity" is a reference to a speech by Hitler, which is pretty much confirmation that [sp]he's responsible for the genocide of the Time Lords[/sp]

wait, so is it safe to assume that [sp]multiple regens of the GIKATD (gallifreyan individual known as the doctor) were involved in the Time War? because apparently he claimed to have been on the front lines and if he banished hurt, why would he acknowledge that GIKATD.[/sp]

Well it's still technically HIM, it's not the DOCTOR. The title is to make amends for his actions, well rather, continue to make amends, I believe he takes it more seriously after 8.5

This is why we need a "What!?" rating.
if i was so mad at my friend that i persona non grata'd him

That metaphor doesn't really work though.
The Doctor has always been slightly closed off about the Time War. He's never told Clara or Amy. Eleven is easily the most ashamed. When he has spoken about he's been vague, he has spoke of battles and events of the Time War but he's never really specified how it ended.
According to comic material, the Eighth Doctor fought in the Time War. On the Front Lines. He spent time in a Dalek prison camp. The Hurt Doctor was the one who ended it. He slaughtered millions, if not billions.
Or so we speculate.
What's to say The Hurt Doctor wasn't the Time War Doctor? What if he was the only Doctor to ever not become involved with other peoples problems? The one who refuses to help the universe and not get involved. In the name of peace and sanity? Death is his constant companion, maybe he decided there is no point in trying to help anymore. The Doctor that lost the will to be The Doctor.
Or maybe he was The Doctor that stopped running? If the spoiler is true that [sp]Hurt Doctor tells the First Doctor to run from Gallifrey or everybody will die[/sp] then The Hurt Doctor could be The Doctor that stopped running and caused so many problems.
Maybe a cobination of all three. Maybe a Doctor that stopped running, stopped helping, and became a soldier instead of a Doctor.

Newsnight: Was Doctor Who rubbish in the 1980s?
Wednesday 29 May 2013 at 2230 on BBC Two
A documentary on how Doctor Who was really rubbish in the 1980s. Includes interviews with cast and crew.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22628484
Looks really good!
"People complaining about that last series of Who? Quick get a documentary showing how rubbish the show has been in the past. During the show's 50th year. What a great way to celebrate"
- BBC
Honestly, we really can't say for sure who hurtdoc is yet.
woo rampant speculation
I suppose the main reason for speculating that Hurt's Doctor was in the Time War is the simple fact that we've already seen most of the Doctor's other incarnations (besides 2 and 3 & 8 and 9) directly regenerate into each other (see below)

I suppose it also seems fitting, as the Time War seems the most likely era for such unmentionable crimes to shame an entire incarnation. Though it could be plausible he was who the Doctor was before Hartnell (the reason he left Gallifrey?), I know leaving on unfriendly terms was explored in some backstory media.
Though just looking up this video now, I realized that 2 & 3 were never directly shown regenerating. I know that gave a lot of room for stories involving 2 living under Time Lord watch prior to regeneration & exile (explains the Two Doctors quite a bit as well). Perhaps this was the time for the Hurt incarnatioN?
Somebody who has contacts says Hurt Doctor is not explained.
Or rather there is no major explanation. They bump into him and go on an adventure. His lines and role were all intended for Eccleston but the script wasn't finished so he lost confidence in the project and dropped out.
The original plan was for it to be the 9th Doctor from [sp]The Time War[/sp] era.
That said here are some things about the 50th from the same guy:
- [sp]There is some great footage of the Timewar. Looks very nice. Hurt is "packing heat". Daleks don't really do much but fly around in the background during this sequence.[/sp] Can't wait to see that.
- There's a "growing rumour" [sp]Ben Daniels[/sp] will cameo at the end of the episode as the twelfth Doctor. Seeing this rumour pop up all over the place now.
- The BBC are trying to break/renegotiate Moffats 2-year contract. The source is "unsure on Matt". That doesn't mean Matt has/hasn't signed a contract. This guy is literally unsure. He only really posts information when he is 100%. For Matt he isn't 100%. Either way 12 is cast.
- Missing episodes have been found. A HUGE bunch. Includes Evil of the Daleks. WOO! Marco Polo is one of the first ones set for release. It will be in a box set by the end of the year. Curiously the BBC hasn't officially announced this yet, the guy from DWM denied it but he's either lying or he's not informed. This is the news that Blogtor was hinting at earlier in the year but wasn't allowed to break.
The first box set containing MarcoPolo/Enemy of the World/Web of Fear will be out by the end of the year.
Have they released 'the mind of evil' in colour yet?
Coming out this Monday.
Remember that guy that used to reclour old Doctor Who clips and put them online? But the BBC shut him down?
The BBC hired him to recolour some Petwee episodes. Mind of Evil was among them.
I'm really not sure about [sp]Ben Daniels[/sp]
I'm really not sure about [sp]Ben Daniels[/sp]
There were others supposedly at the same auditions as him which I prefer. But I never would've chosen Chris, David, or Matt.
So best not listen to me.
I would laugh if the creature from the 'mind of evil' came back 40 years later :v: I don't see it happening though.
I'm sorry. But IMO they need to stop swapping Doctors every 3 seasons. They're burning through them too fast. We barely get into each incarnation before they murder them. The old docs stayed for way longer.

No they didn't. The average is 3 years.
Hartnell = 3 years
Troughton = 3 years
Pertwee = 4 years
Baker = 7 years
Davison = 3 years
Baker = 2 years
McCoy = 2 years
McGann = 1 episode
Eccleston = 1 year
Tennant = 4 years (some argue 5 as it was 2005-2010. But 2010 doesn't count for 10)
Smith = 4 years
[editline]29th May 2013[/editline]
Jesus I can't believe I just did that off the top of my head. I should do Mastermind.
if only moffat spent half of his time developing clara as opposed to coming up with some convoluted scheme that's solved in 10 minutes. i don't really know anymore, i'm only watching this for matt smith at the moment. i'm sure another doctor will be cool, but it feels like such a goddamn waste that we've fucked around for an entire season. there must be reason why doctor who is so hit and miss, yet other shows can consistently provide quality episode after quality episode.

Freelance writers
Those are some mighty big rumors up there.
Curious why they would decide to hold onto the revelation of missing episodes, though.

dan, if i ever go on a trivia show about doctor who, can i get you for my phone a friend?
Well this guy has never been wrong.
His first spoiler was that Martha and Mickey would star in Children of Earth.
Now anybody who has watched Children of Earth will tell you they didn't start. But if you read Russles book he clearly states that the original plan was to have Marth and Mickey start in Children of Earth but they had to change it a few days before filming.
This goes to show two things:
1) The guy clearly has a good inside source
2) Things change at the last minute very often. So always take those believable spoilers with a pinch of salt
It's hard to say why the BBC would hold onto this. They've gone so far as to deny it. But I think the likely reason is marketing. When Doctor Who isn't in the papers they'll wheel it out. Probably to build hype nearer November. Maybe they're hoping more will pop up. I wonder where they found them.
That said there's been reports of Web of Fear being found before which turned out to be bull.

I don't like answering the phone. I get oddly anxious.
It can't just be me. Surprised Moffat hasn't come up with a monster that lives in the telephone yet.
Can't help but fell this is interesting, considering Moffat's monsters.

Go to around 1:54. Also, this entire interview is just fantastic (It's in two parts, this is part two.), there's quite a few very nice interviews with the "classic" doctors around on YouTube.

God I love Patrick Troughton.
I wish we would hit 30, stop ageing and then live to 100.
Just so Bill, Pat, and Jon could still be here and see the mighty success of Who. Plus they'd all be around for the 50th.
[editline]29th May 2013[/editline]
The 1960s.
Doctor Who every saturday of the year.
The 2010s.
6 episodes a year
I had enough reason to go back to the 60s if I had a time machine.
Troughton is a boss.

They fit more of a story into it as well. The Dalek Invasion of Earth was all in all 2 hours and 27 minutes long.
I guess it was a heck of a lot easier to get away with making TV a hell of a lot cheaper back then.
did you even see those special effects, i mean i know it's old but it can't have been that hard to do a lot of that stuff.
given the right set of talents and skills i mean, its not like skill is the problem when it comes to special effects, it's been technology.
