The source that first said Matt is leaving in Christmas is also the one I've been posting things from the last couple of days.
He said the following were at the 12th Doctor screen tests:
- Ben Daniels
- David Threlfall
- Stephen Mangan
Mangan tweeting the picture of him with the Tom Baker scarf actually rules him out. He wouldn't be allowed to do anything like that. However it does mean he knew about the upcoming announcement which pretty much confirms he was at the audition.
The source claims it's 100% Ben Daniels and he has filmed stuff.

He's a previous Doctor that everyone forgot about, even Steven Moffat. So he just marched angrily onto set one day when they were filming the series finale, and the producers liked it so they kept it in the episode.

Is season 8 playing out the same way that 7 did, with the Christmas Special in the middle of the season? Or are we losing Matt after only the 50th?

12 episodes in a straight run into Christmas as the 13th episode finale.
That's the rumour from the old reliable sources who broke the Matt news early.
Let me break it down:

[/B]Series 8 starts 12 weeks before Christmas. Episode 12 ends on a cliffhanger.

Sadly it's worse than that.
The top rumour is Matt's last full episode is the 50th. He regenerates near the start or towards the middle of Christmas. Or it's shown in flashback.
His contract is apparently totally over. It's why he suddenly took on so many projects and didn't announce the news himself like every other actor.

If the Christmas special is called Twelfth Night then I'm going to hurt someone.
Please have a older person as the 12th, I hate how girls are saying that they won't watch Doctor Who if he is old, and that it is weird to have him old and stuff. And that is just one reason, the other reason is because why not? Having an older doctor again would be rad, not to mention if he changes his body and stuff he should end up with an older version sooner or later.

That would really suck. If there's one thing I hate it's a huge break in continuity between Doctors or companions (like the season 22-23 gap where Mel appeared, or of course the Movie-Series 1 gap).

I've always thought that - Whoniverse-wise - each incarnation should be at least a little bit younger than the last. The way I see it, regeneration doesn't only change your appearance, it also fixes you up a bit, a side affect of that being that it slightly reverses the process of aging. That doesn't mean I think they should always cast a younger actor, just that that was how I thought the whole regenerative process worked.
But yeah, it will be good to see an older Doctor take the role and all the cawing fangirls warm to him eventually anyway.

Funny. I just finished watching Conspiracy from 2001, where both Ben Daniels and David Threlfall was in. I could easily see Ben Daniels as a more dark doctor.

I don't know if I'm being stupid but I felt Matt's days were always numbered once Karen left they seemed to have such a good chemistry and once she left it was the breaking up of the team. On a side note who is the nose Matt refers to? Rory?
