Here's hoping the choice they do make will completely blow Ben Daniels out of the water talent-wise and become everyone's favourite Doctor forever, resulting in a 50-feet high statue of him being erected in front of Tom Baker's house
If it's not Ben Daniels perhaps a not very well known but with proven talent aged under 30 actor would be a good choice?

Nine throughout that cracked me up. It's easy to forget how fun and silly Nine could be. That captured it beautifully.

An inside source says the official Doctor Who convention has all living Doctors already signed up.

He expects it to be very expensive and sold in packages (Slightly cheaper with Hotel included).

Yep. She gets them early too. I think Eccleston is her favourite. She has supposedly watched since 1963.
I think Charles was set to appear in an episode once.
Other celebrity fans of note include George Lucas and Spielberg. Lucas approached RTD to showrun for his Star Wars TV series but he declined. Spielberg was producing and directing a Doctor Who Movie in the 90's. The writer was nervous Spielberg wouldn't like the show (even though he's a huge fan) so made the script very similar to Indiana Jones in space. Spielberg then refused to do a movie as the script was too similar to Indiana Jones. Though some of his FX work done in pre production has leaked onto the net. When the show was cancelled in 89 it was just as Spielberg was in negotiations to become showrunner on a brand new series.
Lucas says Spielberg isn't a big fan of the new series as it's "missing something". That was when RTD was still in-charge. Recently Peter Jackson and Spielberg did the Tin Tin movie and asked Moffat to write it for them. They chose him as they were big fans of his Doctor Who.
Finally rumours persist that Peter Jackson is directing a future episode of Who set in New Zealand.

All sources who have been quiet for a while are coming out of the woodwork now to say it's personal issues. That's sad. I hope he's not ill or anything. Really could be any number of things to stop him moving to Cardiff for 9 months. I was excited for Ben Daniels and thought he'd bring something great to the role.
