It's got the all regeneraton stories (i.e. all four episodes of Tenth Planet, all ten episodes of War Games, etc.) and a book about each doctor and their regenerations.
I got it for £36 because of the Amazon preorder price guarantee, and imo it's worth it just for the episodes, nevermind the fancy box and such. Buying the individual stories on DVD would set you back around £60 (plus whatever Tenth Planet will cost when that comes out), but you don't get any of the extras that any of these DVDs would have.
I reckon a lot of the box set bashing will come from fans who are upset that Tenth Planet came out as part of this months before a general DVD release. Seriously, Amazon was flooded with negative reviews before it was even released saying things along the lines of "now I'll have to buy this to get Tenth Planet even though I already own all the other episodes argh bbc are just money grabbers rant rant rant"
A prime example:
written on 11th April
It's something that would be good to get for someone who's just getting into the show, and - for people like me - a good introduction to collecting the DVDs.

Another:
Written 12 April
I particularly like how people are talking about buying it as if it's some sort of moral obligation
oh and also how he had already preordered it before deciding it was terrible and a money-grabbing scheme, seriously how naive can you be
[editline]fdf[/editline]
I highlighted the bit that nearly made me burst out laughing in the middle of the night.
My word, why are people so bitter about some DVD box set
[editline]ssd[/editline]
Also I was just looking on amazon and the price has gone up to £50 now, they must have nearly sold out of them
I read those quotes in Nostalgia Critics "Whiney fan" voice.
So glad to hear they have a new BBC controller. I hope she likes Who
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23044330
It's got the viewers and the fan base, so it's likely.
When is the new session secluded to air? BBC America Correct? I'm so excited for the 12th Doctor!
Is Torchwood any good? Im in season 2 of Doctor Who at the moment and its mentioned a lot and I know that its a series that aired alongside Doctor Who (I think) Should I watch it as well?
Children of Men (Series 3) is the best - so incredibly good. The rest are varying degrees of bad.

Also, here's my review for the Regeneration box set:

My friend just sent this to me, my heart literally stopped omg. Apparently it's fake and only fanmade... at the moment I don't know and don't really care. Either way it looks absolutely amazing. Turn the 3D off by the way (:
The problem with the regeneration box set isn't the inclusion of Tenth Planet. Nobody cares about that because it will come eventually with bonus features.
The problem is it's marketed as a celebration set for the 50th. But it doesn't contain a Colin Baker or Matt Smith story, it will be out of date in a few months, lack of bonus features (which you can spend hours watching, some great documentaries/commentaries).
The only good stories on it are War Games/Caves of Androzani/The Nu Who stories. The rest are average or below. So they've bundled a bunch of mostly-average episodes in a set and are surprised people aren't buying it?
The only plus side of all this is that Tenth Planet is getting a single release, usually they release new stories in box sets with episodes you already have and never issue a single release. So that's a nice plus.
It's a terrible 50th celebration, a much better set featuring stories from all 11 Doctors was planned and cancelled in favour of this quick cash-in.
Look at how Bond celebrated 50, every movie in a nice book and a pretty cover. Plus a nice space for Skyfall which hadn't been released yet. Whereas Doctor Who has a nice book, stories for most but not all The Doctors, no space for the upcoming regeneration, and a cover where they've just mirrored a Series 6 promo-shot and photo-shopped it a little bit.

That was the best fan made trailer ever. It looked real. Like a legit leak.
I don't think the episode will be that dark, I think it's very light hearted. But damn that's good.
-Snip-
It feels like a Doctor Who episode written by Steven Moffat and RTD together. Specially the destroyed London.
I wish it was real.

I get that it's fake, but where is the footage of Matt and David from? The bit where he says "hello again" and his tie's undone, I don't remember seeing that in an episode.
Unless it's just some cracking cgi work.

I remember him saying "Hello again". But the undid tie and stuff is recent, not sure when, maybe Hide? Maybe a body double? I think it's really clever CGI. I recognise a lot of the Tennant stuff though. Even the first walking shot is a Series 4Specials promo shot made to look like it's moving.
I think it's really clever CGI aswell, really good CGI too. Some of the shots look sorta animated, but it's still REALLY impressive.
The "don't open it" part clearly uses an edited line from Don't Blink
is it me or are the lip movements CGI'd in?

"Whatever you do.. don't open it" is from the Resurrection Casket audio book.

Wow - always get confused between the two titles for no reason. Check out Children of Men anyway - it's amazing!
Somewhere out there a marketing editor is looking at the near finished cut of the 50th Anniversary trailer, ready for Comic Con. In one tab he has that fake trailer open, in another he has an email to Moffat half written saying simply: "we fucked up".
Marcus Wilson has apparently quit already.
According to sources and a tweet Marcus made a minute ago which was swiftly deleted.
Diederick Santer gave me lots of good advice. The best - always leave the party while you're still having fun.
Jesus you haven't really done anything. What party?
Hahahahhahahahaahahaha Moffat gets on so well with his producers.

According to Trackboy, Doc13 is going to be announced "weeks" from now. Probably during a live show like The One Show. A 50th trailer will be at Comic Con, the original plan was to announce Doc13 then too but it may have changed.
Some sources are backing "The 3 Ds" rumour which said the next Doctor is one of the following: Domhnall Gleeson, Daniel Kaluuya, or Dominic Cooper. Please don't be Daniel, he looks like 18 and couple play a companion. Domhnall denied it though has been backed by many. Dominic was playful when asked, pretty much skilfully avoided giving an answer.
One of the sources that backs "The 3 Ds" says that the Doctor leaked because he was spotted at the photoshoot.
My sources tell me the deal was done months ago. But if my new Information is correct he may have to change his career plans.
-Trackboy on the Ben Daniels thing
Sounds serious :( He's the one I wanted above all. Not entirely sold on Domhnall. He looks like a teenager, that's the parts he usually plays.
He is - received a "robust" email sometime during the last few days of the 50th shoot, it may of been the Friday. Anyway, was told "red button" at the time - no idea if that still holds. Other gossip since - unsubstantiated I must stress - indicates additional filming.

- A super reliable source on the "Paul McGann is involved with the 50th" rumours
The word on the street is: August.
That Marcus tweet has been up for hours.
Eh obviously mine was playing up when I first went to view it.
Remember when RTD and Julie Gardner were such a tight knit group and incredibly likeable execs. Shame Moffat is a dick and becoming more and more impossible to work with :(
To be fair, that's probably not the case with Marcus Wilson, he's been around a fair while.
I was confusing him with the guy that JUST started.
Remember when RTD and Julie Gardner were such a tight knit group and incredibly likeable execs. Shame Moffat is a dick and becoming more and more impossible to work with :(
I hear a TON of shit on Moffat. I've been assuming it was just butthurt fanboys assuming they knew shitall about what went on backstage. But i'm starting to feel that it's going so deep that you guys MUST have some tangible proof that he's a childraping fuckwad communist-satanist.
Moffat's not actually doing anything wrong; his chest hair is ruling the roost.
I can't be the only person who imagines Moffat's work process is basically him sitting shirtless in a dark room, hurridly scribbling down scripts (Beethoven'esque), and whenever someone comes into his "office", he just yells loudly at them.
The main reason for all the trepidation is whenever these genuine sources allude to back-stage problems, it's vague.
The series getting split. Producers dropping out left right and centre. The main man leaving under unusual circumstances.
It all build a weird picture. I mostly push it to the back of my mind and hope it's fan bullshit.
Unusual circumstances - being the end of his contract and not being renewed after being involved in it's most high-profile production.
No - leaving the country to start working in a film, shaving a character-iconic hairstyle, and not talking about it till about a month later by a video. It's a little unusual. Both previous Docs announced they were leaving themselves.
The BBC not giving Moffat his own special Doctor Who Confidential to announce 12, and on that topic, cancelling confidential. Somewhere the BBC waned confidence in Doctor Who.
And as much as I enjoyed Series 7, calling it "most high-profile production" is a bit over enthusiastic. I've seen and heard nothing but a resounding "eh it was alright" from most people. Plus at times it looked downright shoddy.
And as much as I enjoyed Series 7...
Series 7 isn't the last thing Matt has been involved in........ ; )
Smith wasn't going to turn down a film role based on when the BBC wanted to announce his departure. Or what it meant for his hair. So that isn't so weird. Confidential either needed tightening up or needed to go - it's cancellation wasn't too much of a shock. Who was very lucky to get a weekly documentary for six series. But it started churning out nonsense at times.
