There's something really weird about the way the game looks.
wasn't there already a team remaking MGS (or the first metal gear, can't remember which) who got shut down by konami right when their project was nearly finished
Remaking games without anyone's permission is the DUMBEST thing you can do. I can't understand why people think this is actually a good idea. With what kind of expectation do you go into such a project that will stretch over several years? That a big publisher just allows you to do whatever the hell you want with their intellectual property and business plans? I mean okay, the "Shadow Moses"-project started a bit different, but if you truly love a game, then take the elements that you love about your favorite game and recreate it and create a monument for the next generation. I mean Kojima did the same, he was heavily inspired by Hollywood movies but he never 1:1 recreated them.
It's one thing to do "I'm making Shadow Moses Island in Unreal as a personal/portfolio project". That's fine because (1) you have a lot of reference to work from (2) it's something you likely have a personal attachment to (3) it'll get a lot of eyes on it which can be good exposure for future paying gigs. But remaking the whole game is really dumb, and not just because you'll be sued into oblivion. - It'll take a long time to do, and you are almost certainly not going to get paid for it. - MGS1 wasn't made using Unreal - are you going to mimic the physics, AI, and so forth exactly with the new engine? Good luck getting it right without it feeling 'off'. Or will you change up the gameplay to more modern standards? That won't really work because MGS1 is practically a 2D top-down game, designed with the AI limits of the time in mind - smarter AIs can flush you out a lot better, and more 3D gameplay will make the level design seem weaker. -What are you going to do for the audio? Are you just going to rip the music and voices from MGS1? Enjoy getting sued again! You could use fan remakes/remixes for music, but recasting the voices is likely to be a huge base breaker - and MGS is very dialogue heavy. I mean, what's the best-case scenario? You (I don't know how many people are on the team) spend literal years working on a project that you never get paid for, you release it, and the consensus is "yep, it's exactly the same as that 20-year-old game but with nicer graphics"? It would be much wiser to remake one little section of the game to learn Unreal and such, then go make your own tactical espionage operation game.
There's something really weird about the way the game looks.
Somehow they managed to make an Unreal Engine 4 project look like something made on Unreal Engine 3.
I know it is going to be slammed down by copyright or similar, but if it was to be anything 3rd person, or even a more zoomed out top down, it would be easy as hell. The main real difficulty in MGS was the top down vision, guards had tiny little cones of vision to the point it was hilarious.
He looks kind of off to me too but I can't pinpoint why. Apparently they're basing his look on the MGS4 model.
well i get the face, it's hard to do when the closest thing you've got is the octocamo mask I'm talking about the body the proportions in the trailer are crazy weird, he looks like a kids' anime character
heh FUCK the continuity and what we'd established for these awesome characters previously
I'm sorry? I'd like even one example of MGSV not clearing up the story. MGSV, love it or hate it, cleared up a LOT of unanswered questions and didn't retcon anything.

MGSV, love it or hate it, cleared up a LOT of unanswered questions and didn't retcon anything.
It retconned Liquid's entire hatred towards Big Boss. (MGSV spoilers obviously) [sp]Maybe it was Ocelot that prodded Liquid into a vengeful insanity, but Liquid claimed that Big Boss treated him like shit and considered him inferior to Solid Snake. MGSV then goes to show that not only did Big Boss want Ocelot to treat Solid and Liquid as normal human beings rather than favoritism or disgust, but Venom Snake at best just tries to make a young Liquid know his place and stop being a shit, and even with the cut Episode 51 in context all he does is accidentally shoot Liquid (not fatally thanks to a vest) and then talk down to him when Liquid flips his lid one last time. Liquid's entire revenge turns from what we could only guess was Bug Boss pretty much being an abusive parent towards Liquid as soldiers, into Liquid already knowing he's a clone at a young age and heaping a childish temper tantrum against Big Boss for his own inferiority complex. Which wasn't helped every time Big Boss beat him down in self-defense or to protect his men, little else. Also, you know, Liquid and Mantis just wandering off after Diamond Dogs whooped them and eventually becoming FOXHOUND under Big Boss and Ocelot apparently in the most awkward story-telling fashion you could get.[/sp]

I'm sorry but As someone who literally just got done playing through the entire metal gear series chronologically(and playing all of them for the first time) not a single thing was retconned or changed. The entire story flows together in a near seamless manner. [editline]19th January 2016[/editline] Also this remake looks somehow both really good and really bad. Like they made UE4 somehow look godawful but the prospect of a modernized MGS1 makes me incredibly happy.
