I thought in Minerva you were wearing Combine armor, as the radio person says your armor will be unharmed by the weapon disarmer.
In Minerva you're a reprogrammed combine soldier with a HEV suit. Evidence includes the "boot screen" referencing the HEV suit, Minerva point-blank mentioning it in the dialogue, and of course your hands being HEV suit hands the entire way through
HL2 established that the weapon strippers don't vaporize the HEV suit anyway
The way it says "HAVE A VERY SAFE DAY" is pretty ominous.
It sounds almost like the suit's getting all passive-aggressive, like everyone dings up the HEV Suits on a daily basis.
I really like this addition, it may only really be relevant in the beginning of the game, but it's pretty cool to see the suit literally booting up and running all of its functions like that.
You know, I always wondered how Freeman could see the HEV interface without a helmet (aside from the "It's a video game" hand wave), but seeing this kind of gave me an interesting idea as to how it might work. Maybe there's some sort of connection into the user's body and the suit actually somehow gains access to the user's eyes which allows for the suit to display it's HUD?

Years ago someone asked Laidlaw if Gordon's technically helmetless due to the promotional art and the suit missing one, and thus his HUD was projected onto his glasses. He replied that it was actually a complete oversight and, paraphrasing here, "I guess his phat specs are projecting them yeah."
it sounds way too much like a male voice pitched up. which it is
it sounds terrible
this was better
this does sound better
it's still obviously a male pitched up
but better done
is it that hard to just hire a lady?

I misheard it as 'sad day'

The original was voiced by a woman.
The one in Black Mesa sounds like it would fit better if it was pitched down a semitone or two.

then why in gods name would you ditch that for a pitched up man?
It says the medical systems are engaged twice
Reminds me of the voice in Riddick that played when you heal'd

Like that but clearer.
then why in gods name would you ditch that for a pitched up man?
Legal reasons maybe? Don't have the rights to use her voice?
Originally BM was going to used the actress they had voice the Tram announcements and I think the VOX in the mod. Not sure why they changed their minds.
then why in gods name would you ditch that for a pitched up man?
I don't know. The reason they didn't use the original is because of the shitty bit-depth. Perhaps they had trouble finding someone that sounded close? Who knows.
What's that creepy bassy robo voice from hl1?
No, that's the one. I found it called as "VOX". I just think that ai voice sounds awesome
The voice sounds horrible and it needs to be fixed. I think it's a few semitones too high.

oh damn
thanks for reminding me of that masterpiece of a game
Sounds bad.
Apparently it runs on Windows
That late 90s aesthetic is all about Microsoft. Linux wasn't quite there yet, the rest of Unix-likes were getting their ass kicked by Microsoft.
The suit would probably run Windows CE 2.X or NT Embedded 4.0 or something like that.
-snip- wrong thread
Coming to think of it, some of the fvox lines are pretty dumb
How would the suit know *exactly* what you're holding, or what it's used for?
Like instead of explicitly saying ":EXPERIMENTAL ENERGY WEAPON:" for the (Top secret, never seen before) tau canon, it would be far more believable and cooler if it decided it was a dangerous radioactive/electrical hazard and advised to stay well clear of it
I guess it might know what a pistol is, but "High velocity stealth crossbow"?
Who wrote this, shadow the hedgehog?
Yes it's a magic talking suit that can quantify health into a percentage and find out how much ammo your gun has left, but it could at least have some depth and flaws, it's the one character that's with you the whole time
[sp]Sweet new HUD popup though[/sp]

Well considering they use the HEV suits for testing and have a decent number of them, couldn't it stand to reason it might be programmed into the suit databanks as they might use the suit while testing those weapons?

it'd be really cool if there was an ***ERROR: DATA BANK NOT FOUND*** weapon or something like that, where it's undocumented.

call it the error gun :v:

specifically programmed for Garry's Mod compatibility
I'm not gonna lie, it should've just said, "All Systems Nominal" at the rate it was going listing everything over.
Also I got a weird Mega Man X intro screen vibe.

He did link to a full size image, but it was downscaled from hotlinking.

Indeed. It wasn't downscaling at the time that I posted it, interestingly

yes it most definitely obviously is
