What sort of setup do you use? What kind of microphone, any pop filters, string up blankets to reduce surrounding sounds or whatever?

AT2020 USB Microphone
VoxGuard - *attached to mic-stand to physically remove as much background frequency as possible*
Plastic Pop Filter - *attached to stand to prevent strong annunciation from puffing the mic*
Steel Mic-Stand - *I record standing so I can breath and announce clear and cut*
Audacity 1.2.6. - *Freeware used to record from my laptop*
WavePad Sound Editor - *Freeware for crystal noise removal, but I export the mp3 to as high a volume I can get it without peaking before I export it for WavePad to prevent the water effect*
And all recorded from the closet in my office. At my apartment, I'm free to holler and shout as loud as possible because compared to the insanity that occurs in Alum Rock, a guy screaming about Lettuce at 1am is one of the more normal things the residents here at Alum Rock endure...
The first voice scared the shit out of my sleeping dog.
Awesome work.
If I can scare even just ONE sleeping canine in my lifetime, then I know I have done my job, heh.

I'm guessing it's this Voxguard http://www.amazon.com/Primacoustic-VoxGuard-Microphone-Isolation-Standard/dp/B003XKGOWW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357290868&sr=8-1&keywords=VoxGuard ?
If not than could you possibly recommend a good one? I really could use a something good to block out background noises because I swear the walls in my house are paper thin.
Sweet, all you need now is a website.

That's the one. Definitely a solid investment if you aren't up for using foam insulation all around.

Well, in truth, I do not believe I have done enough to warrant subscribing for one. Eventually I plan to once my resume branches out. For now, I just use my imdb information:

screw it I want you for an event in Mount and Blade Warband.

Thanks, got to start saving up for that and a new mic stand. That cheesy little stand that comes with the at2020 mic is not so great.
Also I look forward to hearing more projects from you. Solid stuff so far.
Do you mind me asking where you're from? Can't be the alum rock I'm thinking of

San Jose; California. Not Alum Rock, Birmingham, if that's what you mean.
Starting out, it's usually a wall of disappointment. Believe me, when I started out, damn near every audition I sent in was a complete bust. The more you practice, the more you audition, the more you'll begin to find your range as an actor, it just takes time, but if you keep at it, I'm sure you'll start seeing some more positive results.
Thanks for the tips dude, I extremely appreciate it. Time to start investing in a better mic!...
If you are ever bored, i suggest you try voice acting for Luftahraan (thats skyrim-dragonian for facewound), its a facepunch skyrim mod project thingy. They could use some voice actors. Google it and check it out!

I actually don't know much of anything about Skyrim, but I'll be sure to give this project a look. Thanks!
So seeing as how my previous read didn't seem to do as hot here as the first previous reads were, I figured I'd pick my next reading material and voice more carefully. Recently, a fellow VA suggested I give this a try.
Upon reading it, I felt like it had a vibe similar to that of the burrito read and felt like it definitely had potential.
I’M COMIC SANS, ASSHOLE.
BY MIKE LACHER

Listen up. I know the shit you’ve been saying behind my back. You think I’m stupid. You think I’m immature. You think I’m a malformed, pathetic excuse for a font. Well think again, nerdhole, because I’m Comic Sans, and I’m the best thing to happen to typography since Johannes fucking Gutenberg.
You don’t like that your coworker used me on that note about stealing her yogurt from the break room fridge? You don’t like that I’m all over your sister-in-law’s blog? You don’t like that I’m on the sign for that new Thai place? You think I’m pedestrian and tacky? Guess the fuck what, Picasso. We don’t all have seventy-three weights of stick-up-my-ass Helvetica sitting on our seventeen-inch MacBook Pros. Sorry the entire world can’t all be done in stark Eurotrash Swiss type. Sorry some people like to have fun. Sorry I’m standing in the way of your minimalist Bauhaus-esque fascist snoozefest. Maybe sometime you should take off your black turtleneck, stop compulsively adjusting your Tumblr theme, and lighten the fuck up for once.
People love me. Why? Because I’m fun. I’m the life of the party. I bring levity to any situation. Need to soften the blow of a harsh message about restroom etiquette? SLAM. There I am. Need to spice up the directions to your graduation party? WHAM. There again. Need to convey your fun-loving, approachable nature on your business’ website? SMACK. Like daffodils in motherfucking spring.
When people need to kick back, have fun, and party, I will be there, unlike your pathetic fonts. While Gotham is at the science fair, I’m banging the prom queen behind the woodshop. While Avenir is practicing the clarinet, I’m shredding “Reign In Blood” on my double-necked Stratocaster. While Univers is refilling his allergy prescriptions, I’m racing my tricked-out, nitrous-laden Honda Civic against Tokyo gangsters who’ll kill me if I don’t cross the finish line first. I am a sans serif Superman and my only kryptonite is pretentious buzzkills like you.
It doesn’t even matter what you think. You know why, jagoff? Cause I’m famous. I am on every major operating system since Microsoft fucking Bob. I’m in your signs. I’m in your browsers. I’m in your instant messengers. I’m not just a font. I am a force of motherfucking nature and I will not rest until every uptight armchair typographer cock-hat like you is surrounded by my lovable, comic-book inspired, sans-serif badassery.
Enough of this bullshit. I’m gonna go get hammered with Papyrus.
This feels like it's pretty solid reading material, I was just curious if folks here thought I should read it in the same voice as I did with my burrito read or maybe give it a more Bobby Cannavale feel?
*Gyp Rossetti from Boardwalk Empire Season 3*.

For the time being then, I suppose we're FP neighbors, hehe.
*Least til I find a place in either Livermore or South Side.
I used to live in Sacramento and considered saving up for a place in Lincoln, but between the unGodly heat and the unGodly racism, well, location location location...
Been to modesto? Its either the coldest place on earth or a 110 degrees. Same for here
I can never adjust to this bipolar weather, and i was born here. It can be nip freezingly cold in the morning and a solid 90+ in the afternoon. Or not. You never know
I've lived here long enough to be used to the loco weather to be honest. Winter's either abnormally moderate or mercilessly cold. I've grown to mornings always starting out in overcast then ending with a nice sunny day.
Though if I have a day off, and it's really nice out, I find myself just driving up Mt. Hamilton and enjoying the sights from Lick instead of recording. As little as I enjoy this current cold weather, it's definitely provided me with one less reason to procrastinate when it comes to recording, heh.
