why is this relevant to the discussion
if you'd read a little more, the guy was saying eating less meat would cause more pesticides to pollute the water or something.
"Hey I have an idea lets not drink water."
o man thats so funny
I have a question. Do vegetarians not condone the killing of animals for products, but vegans do not condone and animal products at all?
I have a question. Do vegetarians not condone the killing of animals for products, but vegans do not condone and animal products at all?
It depends on the person, really. Morality is subjective, etc.
But generally, vegetarians just don't eat meat, and some activist vegetarians are against the use of animal testing and using animals for products whereas most vegans are against the consumption of ANY animal byproducts in food, any animal testing, etc, etc.

Didn't you hear? That's what an Iron mine is... They slaughter helpless animals in a cave for their iron :v
Yeah this is kinda unavoidable. The ONLY natural source of the essential vitamin B12 is meat.
When produced in vitamins for humans, it must be done via bacterial culturing and shit
not just meat, but other animal products too.
i eat meat because it tastes good

A number of studies have shown that plants feel pain, and vegetables are picked and often eaten while still alive. Animal rights activists are often in the news, but has anyone ever protested for vegetable rights?
That should give her something to think about.

Did you read any of that? Please link to these studies about plants feeling pain.
I mean, they react to stimuli, like turning towards the sun and like, but under that principle, my use of this computer is akin to slavery.
(work faster, little slave)

Worst argument ever, and if you had put any thought into it you would have realized that and had not posted.
If plants somehow 'feel pain' (they don't, not in the way you and I do) then you're still causing more suffering/pain or whatever than you need to by eating meat - since they have to eat those poor vegetables, and then you eat the poor animals.

That appears to be a question sent in by a reader, who cites nothing
There are no credible studies that show plants feel pain, but if I'm wrong please find me one
I hate dickheads who rate shit dumb and then don't provide any sort of valid argument. Fuckers.
I just love how she links meat-eating with child abuse, what a fucking pointless argument, pulling out the worst shit to prove your point is probably the most heartless thing you can do. Also, respect of beliefs? I don't see her respecting his either and on top of that she's one of those "change for me pls" types of stupid cunts. And besides, humans are BORN omnivores, we have the denture to do it and we've been so for millions of fucking years.
Seriously woman, fetch me some bacon and get the fuck out.

You know that there's no evidence, but the girlfriend of the guy in the letter is so fucktarded that she'll probably believe anything.

He cites 5 different universities.
I looked it up, the only real refutation is from "Vegan soapbox" who refers to meat-eaters as murderers and whiners.
We weren't designed for anything. Humans serve no biological grand purpose. There is no meaning to life.
Except philosophical 'meaning of life' stuff has nothing to do with an argument over what evolution shaped us to do.
[editline]15th July 2011[/editline]
And that's why the post was getting rated dumb so you can stop bitching now.
We weren't designed for anything. Humans serve no biological grand purpose. There is no meaning to life. We were a freak accident in nature due to evolution.
This, I agree.
I've been a vegetarian for 3 years and I maintain an extremely healthy diet. I visit my doctor every month for a check-up and I've always been in extremely healthy condition. Vegetarianism is a very viable diet alternative IF you do it right with the proper supplements and replacements for meat.
Note: I'm not trying to force my views upon anyone at all, I don't do shit like that. I was merely explaining that vegetarianism isn't unhealthy as people claim it to be.
This, not too much.
You know why? Because both veganism and vegetarianism pretty much consist of eating supplements and replacements for meat, which will never be like the real thing.

They can get pretty close, though... I'll give you that.

no need for vitamins or supplements at all
we've been eating meat for SO long that humanity as a whole has literally evolved past any ailments brought on by the consumption of meat
as earlier posters have said, we're "designed" for it
eat her. that'll show her what's up.
