i know but it's not making the problem any better
How is it making it worse?
You run every bloody thread you post in straight into the ground.
ruining threads by debating with logic and reasoning, yep.
Non sexualised characters are just better and more memorable.
Non sexualised characters are just better and more memorable.
IMO the sexualization doesn't matter be it a lot or a little as long as they're a well-rounded and developed character on top of that. This goes for both sexes; bimbos and muscleheads are both typically forgettable and awful characters

It's hard to take a character seriously when (s)he is wearing lingerie into battle.

Oversexualized characters feel less like real people you can identify yourself with and more like a voice that's there to stroke the player's ego and/or serve as a plot exposition machine.
It depends really
Find me a character dressed in stereotypical JRPG armor whos main plot point isn't her tits.
Most of those comments look like they're from Xbox Live.
why do people keep saying this [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline] last I checked the 360 was a gaming console that you played multiplayer video games on. [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline]
I think that females have it worse. http://fatuglyorslutty.com/ As a male gamer, at least I don't have to experience sexual harassment constantly by using my voice.
wow totally forgot about that, destroys the last pages already pointless anecdotes even more fuck that site is depressing.
Well I don't play alot of JRPG's so I'm not going to make the trek to find what you're looking for. All I'm saying is that their are other factors to consider when it comes to how memorable you consider a scantily clad women or there overall quality as a character. A character in appropriate attire who is written poorly isn't better than a scantily clad woman who is written decently/better. Now if you have two characters of somewhat equivalent writing then I'll most likely put the character who is sexualized to much lesser extent than the other. (As in their general attire exposes too much skin or isn't appropriate for the situation at hand) But that's just me, I guess. And on the matter of memorability that really depends on the person or audience.
When I say "JRPG armor" I mean the typical armor you'll see females wearing in JRPG's, metal bikinis and the like that serve no practical purpose other than to show off their tits. Which character version would you rather play with, Alyx Vance or Fakefactory Alyx Vance Donno about you, but I prefer Alyx's character fully clothed. The point I'm trying to make here is that over sexualized outfits never add to a character, only take away from it.
IMO the sexualization doesn't matter be it a lot or a little as long as they're a well-rounded and developed character on top of that. People who go around looking for things to be victimized by can shampoo my crotch. It's like morons who go to art galleries and stand around pretending to see deeper meaning in a blank canvas or a woman's used tampon suspended in a glass box.
Do you mean "the" for the bolded? Also it's called the Xbox Live Community some times, right? Maybe I'm doing something wrong I dunno? Would you like me to say Xbox 360 or Xbox Social?
I don't understand why you pointed out that most of the comments are from Xbox Live.
I guess we're playing different games because I don't notice much objectification in what I'm playing. most of the games I've played recently just outright don't have any women in them, and the ones that do are E-rated games that couldn't get away with objectification I mean I occasionally see some cleavage or a midriff but honestly I could just head to pretty much any place with lots of foot traffic and see dozens of girls with bare cleavage or midriff. nine times out of ten, media doesn't objectify women any worse than women objectify themselves. I haven't seen anyone get harassed for being a woman in a game in years. it's just not as common a thing as people think
are we just going to pretend you don't play visual novels lol [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline]
Them replying to those messages doesn't make it any better. Block, report, etc.
sexism is over! [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline]
Well I (sorta) already answered your question So I'd play the fully clothed Alyx as well.
so you agree that less sexualized characters are better. well done!
Of course when both characters have the same quality of writing.
Find me an over sexualized character that has good writing. Dev's don't over sexualize characters because it adds to them, they do it because the character is so bland and uninteresting they have to slap a massive pair of tits on them to draw the players attention to them.
Find me an over sexualized character that has good writing. Pretty well written character but literally doesn't wear pants for most of the show. If I played more JRPGs I'd be able to find some seeing as near every Japanese female does that shit. I guess Triss and near every other female in the Witcher games might count. Triss' design is anything but fanservice, yet she wants the main characters dick pretty bad, along with a few other sex scenes. Lots of sex, but it's well written and doesn't feel like pandering.
this. i value art style way over sexualization, if the two can coexist that's great but 99% of the time they don't
Exactly. This actually baffles me; If you want to appeal to a wider audience, why not do BOTH to rope in both the "her der titties" crowd AND the crowd that loves the stories of games? They certainly aren't going to stop doing the easy grabs for audience, but why not throw some character development in there as well?
Find me a character dressed in stereotypical JRPG armor whos main plot point isn't her tits.
Bayonetta
Writing well is hard.
merge broken
Hiring good writers costs money. Easier to just boobs and go home.

Damn broken merges
Wow that's a lot of mergebreakers

In the later games it ties into the greater universe and expands her as a character, and connects the game universe to the comic universe (which is fucking giant and well developed, from what I've seen) that centers around her.
I don't understand why you pointed out that most of the comments are from Xbox Live.
Xbox Live is the worst platform for mic abuse due to the majority of the users being so young and/or stupid.
Here's my own little interjection into this discussion. I'm perfectly fine with letting girls design their own sexualized male characters. Let them have their fun. For instance, one of my female friends has a guilty pleasure of drawing male characters shirtless. A lot. I poke fun at her sometimes for it, but I recognize that it's just something she likes. I don't mind these sorts of pretty-boy type characters, so long as they're not written as completely stupid Twilight rip-offs. They can have their submissive neko guys with leashes. I see no problem with it.
