Some of the big issues that guys seem to cry out about when it comes to feminism and other issues that SJWs focus on are things like ableism, rape culture. I wrote a thing for Jon's 'retarded' incident, so I'll just [URL="http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1257280&p=45606396&viewfull=1#post45606396"]link to it[/URL] instead of posting it again. It should cover the ableism business, as well as give a basic run down of how not to get pissed off when reading about feminism and other activist issues. When it comes to rape culture, nobody is actually saying 'all men rape women'. Maybe a few extremists are, but those are a rare and loud few. 'Rape culture' is the idea that a running thread in our society both passively and actively (and often accidentally) promotes sexual abuse against women. Things like; active harassment of women through cat-calling in the street, the sense that if you do something nice for a women you've earned some sort of affection (up to and including sexy things), victim blaming ('if you don't want to get raped, don't wear short skirts' etc), the fallacious notion that a significant portion of rape reports are falsified (when in reality it's a teeny tiny statistically negligible amount). The fact that a lot of people think that making rape jokes is alright, when in reality they serve to make some men think it's alright to sexually abuse women, because that's how socialised psychology [I]works[/I]. The fact that a bunch of people trivialise the idea that you can get 'triggered' by something, as though it's not a reasonable psychological concern (when, I'm pretty sure, if you experienced what is probably the single most devastating and damaging type of abuse that one can go through, you wouldn't want to be reminded of it ever again). These things are all super fucked up, 99.99% of the time the people negatively impacted by them are women, and they are big parts of rape culture. Which is a real thing. And from there you can explore women in games, look at issues of depiction, over-sexualisation, the majority of women being in games for boobs and butts rather than being actual well rounded characters with genuine goals, etc, (even in games where the male characters are well written, the women characters are often superfluous sex objecs). Then you can start to critique that properly without seeing feminism as some sort of threat to you personally. Because it's not, even though those few extremists try to make it so. It's not our fault as men that society has been set up like this. It's not our fault (or our teacher's faults) that we were taught (actively and passively) that this was the way we should act. And it's difficult to be confronted with, because on some level it challenges what we were taught about what it 'means to be a man'. But it's shit we need to look at and deal with and stop trivialising as 'hurr SJW feminazi tumblr bullshit' because it is so [I]important[/I]; if not for you directly then for your mothers, sisters and daughters. I'm lucky - I had a lady friend who sat me down and gently explained this sort of stuff to me and got me past that initial instinctive internal backlash that you get when some social movement challenges your sense of self. The internet is abuzz about this entire ordeal in the first place, it's not like Jon is calling forth some special horde to go attack Zoe. I guarantee you a large portion of his followers already know about the situation. Besides, just about everyone involved with video games is giving their take on it and I don't see why it makes Jon a super special asshole because he chose to give his take too, and you don't like it. And speaking as an extreme minority in tons of shit (transgendered, pansexual, etc) that you'd think would make me fall under this whole social justice umbrella thing if you think that the problems and behaviors described in the image he linked aren't real in any sizable way then you're batshit.
