I don't recall if they've been doing the whole CSI style fingerprint scannotron shit for the whole show, but the magic fingerprint scannotron MOBILE version was even dumber. Plus I wasn't paying attention to what kind of phone it was but it was probably just an excuse for product placement. I think it was stated awhile back that the writers' idea of crime scene investigation has gotten significantly more cartoony as the show has gone on. Like how Dexter walks into a crime scene when he's in a hurry to go murder somebody and he looks at the blood for two seconds and goes: "Oh, okay, yeah this is exactly what happened" Episode was okay, but I'm not holding any high expectations.
No this is the first time that they have introduced a mobile version of finger print scanning. I strongly agree that this is STUPID, not to mention incredibly unhygenic. I wouldn't let a rotting stripper corpse's fingers anywhere NEAR my phone.. I can see where you are coming from in terms of the show becoming more "cartoony" (I would have just settled for unrealistic), but I do agree with Arrk here. Dexter works in forensics by day (many many days) and kills people at night (although not always at night time! :tinfoil:), so it is expected that Dexter should have an abnormal talent for unravelling crimes. I do think that the directing is getting a little sloppy, however. The amount of times that I've thought, "what, no security cameras?!" is ridiculous. In season 6 episode 12; Travis, Dexter and Harrison all entered and exited the Transcorp building and were apparently not stopped when trying to reach the roof??? And in season 7 episode 1 Dexter is in a fucking airport. No cameras? Eventually the guy he killed will be reported missing, and surely camera footage will pick up that he was last seen unconcious in a wheelchair with Dexter?? Maybe I'm just being too cynical. It still is a great show.
How much does Dexter make that he can afford to have a 24/7 baby sitter, 2 bedroom apartment, family car and fork out $1,800 dollars on a whim? He doesn't do over time so he can't be making extra, also how much does a lab analysist actually make, maybe I'm over thinking it but it's weird and annoying [editline]3rd October 2012[/editline] Also, in the intro theres a massive jump cut in the shaving scene, I only just noticed it after 6 seasons, I have no idea, I feel like I'm just picking out stupid shit in the show because it's becoming obvious now 0:32 mark, anyone else notice this?

It's overlookable but still worth noting that they're kind of skimming on certain aspects of realism at this point. Arguably, anyway.
0:32 mark, anyone else notice this?
That's just the style of the intro. It jumps and zooms in at certain places to certain beats of the music.
;37900968']That's just the style of the intro. New episode was shit. So many little (and big) things that just felt wrong.
Although possible that it's a minor error..
I'll stop you there. It's not. The show won an award in '07 for their opening title design. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been awarded if there were mistakes and jumps. Edit:
New episode was THE shit.
New episode was shit. So many little (and big) things that just felt wrong.
A lot of things did feel very wrong but it was still better than the previous season. So far. I doubt that will continue to be the case. Like when DEB fucking knows he's a murderer and obviously is very suspicious of him he's like oh I'll just go hunt down a guy the police are currently looking for and murder him because it helps me focus!! what?? WHAT?? ARE U FUCKING STUPID DONT DO THAT U IDIOT DEB IS SO ON TO YOU jesus CHRIST dexter is once again, a big dumb moron. and the crime scene shit with his phone. are you kidding me? there's so many things wrong with that. and killing off the ONE solid cop who would more than likely clue onto Dexter, is killed off in the first episode. not even by a villain. just some dude who dexter kills, in the very same episode. who may be a lackey of the main villan but fuck is it far fetched he'd just happen to kill the one cop who'd figure dexter out. talk about a cop out. i could visualise the writer's meeting for that 'shit, this guy's gonna be a problem. what do we do?' 'let's just kill him off! immediately!' holy shit.

I'm guessing that the actor wanted off the show or they wanted to cancel his contract for whatever reason, so they had to come up with a way to kill him off. Although I agree that the whole killing the guy at the airport was ridiculous and stupid, but this episode was actually very good. Miles ahead of seasons 5 and 6 (which I still consider to be decent enough TV, even if they were complete crap in relation to the earlier seasons).
but fuck is it far fetched he'd just happen to kill the one cop who'd figure dexter out. talk about a cop out.
Pun intended :v:?

He doesn't know how to handle his sister learning his secret, someone who he actually cares about and has lived with and spent his life making sure doesn't find out. So he's panicking and (while we're only seeing his logical thinking) making mistakes. The thing with the phone seems like something you'd see on a CSI parody on robot chicken.

He would always remain cold and methodical before and handle the situation like... well, a serial killer. Not be like UUUUHH... SHIT. WHAT DO I DO??? Only new, dumb idiot Dexter acts like that. Ne NEVER used to act like that. He was always 10 steps ahead of everyone and planned everything and took every possible outcome into consideration. It's amazing how a few seasons of retard dexter can make everyone forget he was actually basically some kind of prodigy before.
Although I still liked this episode, I must admit that Dexter's character development from being an ice cool psychopath serial killer into becoming all emotionally unstable and attached to people doesn't really feel all that fitting.

Their changes were not for the better.
Congrats Rusty. You lasted longer than I thought you would before spewing crap. Every time someone brings up a valid point you just return to "wahh bad actors" because you have no better argument. There has to be some character development in the fucking show, and with Dexter having a son it's not surprising that the direction he's headed isn't all stone cold killer and shit. [editline]4th October 2012[/editline]
Didn't the writers already begin to establish his human side well earlier on [sp] like his reaction to Rita's death and him being a father, Dexter has talked about it before so it's not like it's coming out of no where [/sp]
Most of the show has been about him trying and struggling to become more human. As far as I remember there's a lot about that when he's explaining in the voice over thoughts about meeting Rita.
Yeah but those were the new writers too - basically they slowly, and sometimes rapidly, killed Dexter's character. Every time someone brings up a valid point you just return to "wahh bad actors" because you have no better argument.
Uhh i'm sorry but I do not recall even once mentioning the actors And yes, of course a show has to have character development. But there's only so much you can have from a serial killer. It literally defies what they are by nature by having him be 'i have feelings but i don't but really i do but i still love murdering people because no reason'. There's a different between character development and turning a cold, calculating, heartless serial killer, into a sappy moron who's incapable now of most rational thinking. Congrats PieClock. You lasted longer than I thought you would before baseless defending the show.
Most of the show has been about him trying and struggling to become more human. At least, until the new writers swept in... that's my whole point. They defeated the purpose of the show and Dexter's character. The drama was that he was incapable of changing. He will indefinitely be frustrated at his lack of ability to change, and he will always be a heartless serial killer. But now, not only is he not heartless, he's also a moron (seasons 5 and 6 speak for themselves). How you continue to be so truly oblivious of what is plainly just horrible writing in every sense? Here's a good example. Compare his blood analysis in season 1. To just looking at a body and saying 'ok here's how it happened' and then using a phone app to collect and scan fingerprints. If you can't see the huge discrepancy here, then wow. Seriously. These writers are just idiots and I think you should face the facts.

I agree with most of what you said in your first post about the new season. The show has obviously declined in quality, especially in those last 2 seasons, and there's no denying that. Anyway, thing is, there's no such thing as a rational serial killer. Dexter might be calculated, sure, but at the end of the day he's always had an irrational desire to kill. The only thing that kept Dexter calculated or logical is his human side telling him to follow the rules and do what's right. But right now in the show his human side is obviously fucked up with him being caught, and Rita's death, so along with that goes him being able to effectively think in any logical way. That's my point of view anyway. [editline]4th October 2012[/editline]
Here's a good example. Compare his blood analysis in season 1. Did you know that in this series, Dexter is actually the most deadliest serial killer in the U.S. [sp]Trinity was the deadliest, but his kill-count came to a stop, with his death serving as one more count for the runner-up, Dexter, who is now past Trinity's kill-count.[/sp]
