You see I don't understand how it's not focused on Dexter. Currently the main parts of this show are:
1. Dexter being caught by lumen. (How isn't that about Dexter? Dexter has a huge problem if she does something that leads back to him.)
2. Quinn finding out about Dexter. (Again, how isn't that to do with Dexter?)
You can't have a TV program focusing on a single person, that would just be really boring. Most of the other "side plots" are there so all the other characters don't suddenly disappear from the show for when they're needed. I also have a feeling some of the side plots are going to tie in with the main plots.
I still think it's idiotic in losing interest in a show because of how a character looks.
Going off of the last episode it's actually more like:
1. Lumen getting Dexter to tag along and help her avenge the guys who rightfully raped her.
2. Debra falling in love with Quinn who also happens to be investigating Dexter.
Notice something? Dexter is just being dragged along. He has very little participation in either parts, he's just there for the sake of being there.
knowing the reviewers they'll probably give this season high ratings and the writers will do another exactly like it
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SPOILERS! Should of never read this thread D":!

No.2 is a side plot. Quoting myself:
I also have a feeling some of the side plots are going to tie in with the main plots.

Also, I call Quinn and Deb getting together, Quinn being 100% about dexter, but not saying anything because of being with Deb.
Finished the second season.
Can't wait for the third to become available on netflix.
yes but the side plots are TERRIBLE now
remember when all the side plots in season 1 revolved directly around dexter, and now they only sort of do?
and then they all tied together and it was like OOOH SHIT and stuff? if something like that doesn't happen soon it's going to be a bad season that we'll be telling people to skip
I loved Masuka in this episode. IMO he is the best secondary character in the show.
and then they all tied together and it was like OOOH SHIT and stuff? if something like that doesn't happen soon it's going to be a bad season that we'll be telling people to skip
Well that's what I'm saying. I'm pretty sure it's all going to tie into the main plot line later.
[editline]2nd November 2010[/editline]
it won't be as "OOOH SHIT" though, I'm sure.
Yeah but in the other seasons we didn't have to wait a million fucking episodes for them to tie together. for example we were seeing 'rudy' prepare his next victim while he was still dating deb
I just wanna see that nanny discover dexters blood slides or something interesting.
Might be spoilers below. Don't read on if you haven't watched all of it. I dont want to tag it all
did anybody else notice in the newest episode that the cop guy that Quinn was using to get dirt on Dexter said that he had a completely clean record? Even though he had just gotten arrested in the last episode of season 4... which in the Dexter timeline, would have been approximately two weeks before this episode. Are the writers really that forgetful? If it had been revealed to Quinn that Dexter had gotten arrested on the same day that Rita was killed, at the same location where Arthur Mitchell's van was abandoned.. it would really take the season for an interesting turn. Instead, I guess the writers forgot this detail, said that he had a clean record, and now Quinn doesn't even appear to give a shit anymore. And as much as I hate the character of Quinn, I considered him the one last hope in taking this season where I thought it would go in terms of really catching onto Dexter, and now it seems the writers consider it more important to focus on the Debra/Quinn romance rather than continuing with the "Quinn suspicious of Dexter" storyline.
In the eyes of Miami Metro, if Dexter was innocent and his wife was just murdered by this serial killer that is still out there, you'd think they'd get sus that he isn't checking on progress with the Trinity investigation (why the fuck did they put the FBI on the trinity case FFS. Now it doesn't even exist. Easy way out, writers)
the writers picked up right where last season left off, so why are they treating it like a totally new season? as if miami metro, deb especially, would give up on trying to find trinity. as far as they know, he just killed rita, and is still out there.. ready to kill again. They aren't trying to pin his next location? This season pisses me off. They had so many roads to take, but instead they got excited that a higher profile actress was on board and they wanted to do something new with her. NOBODY saw Dexter talk to Trinity in the office?! Deb doesn't care that Quinn was fucking Lundy's murderer? There's not even a word being spoken about Trinity, Lundy or Christine this season, and it's fucking retarded writing. If they wanted to do that, then they should have made it a bigger gap in the time between the seasons and Episode one of this season should have been the last episode of last season.

this so much.
If they wanted to have a good season they should have focused it entirely on Dexter and how by not killing trinity with the axe when he had a chance, he's opened up all sorts of cracks which could lead to people discovering him. It would have been a lot more interesting then this fucking stupid Lumen plot
wait when did dexter get arrested? i don't remember that at all
wait when did dexter get arrested? i don't remember that at all
last episode of season 4. Rita had to bail him out
I'm pretty sure by clean he meant he's got nothing linking him to what Quinn suspects he's doing.
I'm pretty sure by clean he meant he's got nothing linking him to what Quinn suspects he's doing.
No, by clean they meant his record. Sif his paid bills have anything to do with "linking him to what Quinn suspects he's doing"
I usually stream Dexter ASAP after it airs, since I don't wanna pay for HBO just to get Dexter, but I didn't even bother this time. I can't believe I'm saying that about what has been my favourite show for the past four years but it's true, I'm bored and uninterested. At least I have The Walking Dead to look forward to in the same time slot, so while everyone is bored with this shit season, I'll be watching zombie brains getting splattered.
last episode of season 4. Rita had to bail him out
i only have a vague recollection of that
i only have a vague recollection of that
He left the scene of an accident chasing after Arthur (I think) and the guy tracked him down and took his picture with his cell phone. Dexter got violent with him, took his phone and smashed it and then argued with a couple of cops. They arrested him.
OOOH
yeah

Also, while on the topic of Arthur Mitchell walking right into the Homicide Department and confronting Dexter, the fact that no one noticed blows my mind as Arthur was identified and if you'd recently seen him, it would click. You think at least person would have recognized him, and that security footage would have been reviewed. But no, nothing. Furthermore, what happened to all of Arthur's money from his closed bank accounts that Dexter hid from him when he left him in the van? We see that Dexter retrieved it and said he was going to give it to Arthur's family, but he didn't because the police raided the Mitchell's house. It all just disappeared? Also after Arthur was identified, you think the police would have used everything connected to a wanted serial killer that they could to track him down, including the vehicles in his name, even if they thought he had already skipped town. Even patrol officers I imagine would be given a vehicle make/model and a license plate number to help track him down. Instead, it seems as though Arthur's van was simply abandoned and unnoticed in a bank parking garage (incidentally, the same one Dexter was arrested at by the sheriff's department...), and Arthur was free to ride out of town in his Mustang without any concern of being caught. And when his Mustang broke down in the middle of nowhere and Dexter ambushed him, presumably Dexter took him back to the kill site in the same car. Even though they had to have been hours away from Miami at that point, Dexter had no concern about driving all the way back in an identified serial killer's vehicle with his body in the car? And what did he do with the car when he was done?
I was so fucking hyped for this season, because they could have made it EPIC with all the mistakes Dexter made last season. It makes me sad that the writers didn't go down this road. Even if they did it wouldn't mean that Dexter would be pinned for anything. He had an alibi (raiding his house) and if he had met with the family and given them the money, chances are they would have protected him and wouldn't identify his as Butler. The writers took every easy way out: Get rid of Astor and Cody by sending them to grandparents, Giving the Trinity case to the FBI, Hiring a nanny for Harrison, Occupying Quinn with Debra instead of his investigation, Sending the Mitchell's to a safe house, Giving Dexter something to worry about other than Rita (Lumen) and moving the focus on to other plot lines (that fucking suck too)
Since the show is supposed to be (kind of) realistic, we should be hearing interior dialogue about Rita, Trinity, Christine, Lundy etc... just what the fuck happened in general. But no, it's all 'boyd' and 'lumen'.
OK, rant over.
damn calm down.
he is right though
I didn't read it but wow long rant.
I agree with bree. Sums up my feelings about the season. So far the only episode of it that I really liked was the first. I can't help it but then they just forgot about what happened and went with the completely new plot and subplots.
goddammit lumen should go kill herself or something argh

without a good story arc this show really loses its shine

He typed out a series of plot holes and inconsistencies, I doubt he smashed every key with a hammer and screamed at the monitor while he did it.

Without a story arc period, this show is shit. I thought it was called Dexter, not The Batista Laguerta Deb Quinn New-Latina-Beat-Cop-Becoming-Detective Show
Well I enjoy this season very much. Last episode was hilarious.

Never said he did. It's just idiotic pointing out every little flaw in a show. Every show has flaws and minor plot holes if you look hard enough. The thing is it's meant to be entertainment, not a quiz.
I mean seriously, most of you guys are acting so serious over the show "OH MY GOD THIS CHARACTER SUCKS", "OH MY GOD I CANT LISTEN TO TEEN ANGST FROM ASTOR FOR 5 MINUTES", "OH MY GOD THIS NEW CHARACTER IS SHIT I WON'T GIVE THEM A CHANCE".
The points are valid. Sure, I don't want to listen to Astor being a bitch either. I do notice flaws in acting from some characters. But fuck it's not a show breaker like most of you are whining about. That's all I'm trying to say.

It's not the fact that there are minor plot holes, it's the fact that the writing standard has dropped dramatically. You really think the script is decent this season?
It's slow, but it's not bad. The only thing I'm not liking is the stupid Batista Laguerta thing. Still, I'm near certain it's going to tie into something more important later, it's not in the show for no reason.

Season 3 was worse.
