My eccentric teacher first told me about the show. Fun times were had when he tells the guy who gets tried for being homicidal first.
What the show is doing is very interesting. We are currently responding emotionally to the ending of season 4. By the time season 5 rolls around we will have long gotten over any sort of emotional baggage associated with it. However, when the season starts we will begin to see other characters respond to the "situation". This will allow the viewers to "step into dexter's shoes". We will be like him in that emotionally we will be somewhat distant from the situation, while everyone around is making a tremendous deal out of it. Even though Dexter was fond of Rita, he will not be as emotionally moved by the death as everyone else.
Rita was the only hot girl on the show besides Astor.
It's probably going to be 10-11 years in the future.
Why do you say that?

I'm still just as shocked that she is dead from when I first watched the episode. I'm really glad I decided to watch all the seasons again, noticing stuff I never did the first watch through. Currently on episode 4 of season 4. [editline]11:36AM[/editline]
Fuckin Rita. :( [editline]09:59AM[/editline] Benji we have the same taste in shows don't we (Heroes, Dexter, I think you watch Fringe too or maybe that was wind8ws I can't remember.)
That was wind8ws, never watched Fringe.
Why do you say that?
They need a gap in the timeline to put in another challenge in the show IMO. You had Rita who was always calling Dexter, and a lot of the times he had to choose to fulfill his responsibility to Rita, or his responsibility to himself. Now, Rita won't be there nagging him about showing more emotions and whatnot, so he has a lot more free time and one of his major challenges in the show is gone. Oh, and Dexter might be close to bald next season. I do believe Michael C. Hall recently got done fighting cancer.
Yeah that really caught me off guard, not used to main characters just dying just like that! It was Trinity who killed her right? He didn't say anything about it to Dexter right before he died.

Stop overanalysing and thinking you're smart. Anyone who wants to see how good Lithgow is aswell, watch these 2 and see how he can change.
Just watched the pilot. Its very, very good. One of the best shows on TV, no doubt. After Season 4's heart-shattering ending, I can hardly wait for the fifth to start. Even though the season finale was just gut-wrenching, it really does refresh the story: opening a ton of new potential story arcs for ole' man Dexter. [sp]The worst part is, Dexter was finally starting to seem "human." The loss of his wife is prolly going to seriously set him back. 'Course, being a single father of three doesn't leave much time for serial killing.[/sp]
I don't think this is spoilers but I'm just speculating... [sp]I would say it would be 10-11 years in the future because I'm almost positive season 5 is going to be about Dexter training his son how to kill.[/sp]
I have never watched a series that actually tugged at my heartstrings and sympathize so much with a character.

FUCK season 4 isn't out in the UK yet and I've just fucking ruined everything.
The 3rd season was probably the worst in terms of story in my opinion. However it was still very interesting. I also agree with what was said about the intro, I hate seeing people eat never mind a huge close up of it.
...he's not eating anyone. He's preparing his breakfast and eating it.

Opps. My fail. [editline]09:58PM[/editline] Anyway, this thread is wonderful. Glad to see others on here who also enjoy this show as much as I do. John Lithgow was on a live chat feed a couple of months ago. He was answering anyone's questions about the show. It was fucking awesome.
Got a good way through the first season now, this show is really great.
six feet under, which he was definitely better in.
whoa whoa thats the same dude holy shit
Season 4 was easily the most intense shit ever, by the way. I almost feel like they bit off more than they could chew for the season though. It felt a little rushed in the end and I was disappointed, but after a while I really like it.
I just watched the end of season 4 a few hours ago. That was a fucking intense episode, especially the ending. Also [sp]When Dexter finally had Arthur on his table[/sp]my mother pretty much shouted "It's about bloody time this happened!" [sp]I actually think that season 5 will involve some sort of (small scale and incredibly short of course) investigation of Dexter. Rita's minor infidelity, the fact that her death doesn't fit with Trinity's ritual cycle and also Dexter's unexplained late-night excursions that other people have surely noticed could make him a suspect.[/sp]
What the show is doing is very interesting. Fuck youn ITV, not purchasing Series 3 broadcasting rights in favour of your shitty 'real-life dramas'! Have to get it on DVD. They did the same thing with Series 5 of Supernatural >:(

You guys don't have to put spoilers it's been said millions of times that Rita died in the end of season 4. [editline]05:03PM[/editline]
[sp]Yeah Dexter's not gonna pull the "eh I don't care that much" card, he's gonna be fucking devastated.[/sp]
And he's going to have to juggle being a single dad, being investigated, his job, and his other job.
I just watched episode 8 of season 4 again. Started laughing at the part where Trinity dances outside the van, thinking about that YouTube video. Ahahaha
[sp]He didn't seem that bothered at the end of season 4 though. He almost seemed calm. We'll see.[/sp]
[sp]Some people tend to shut down emotionally (not hard for Dexter seeing as he's already there) when experiencing massive emotional trauma. His wife just died, I'm sure that was a sufficient hit to shut him down even more.[/sp]
[sp]Doesn't it seem likely that Astor and Cody will go to Paul's parents since Dexter never adopted them?[/sp]
[sp]He didn't seem that bothered at the end of season 4 though. He almost seemed calm. We'll see.[/sp]
he was in shock
