Doesn't matter who played him, the character was shit, undeveloped, and the writing and dialogue was still atrocious.

I also liked that they managed to get Carth from Knights of the Old Republic in there as a supporting character. But that's beside the point. You can have the best actors in the world, but if the writing's shit (which it was) then it counts for fuck all.

I started watching Dexter pretty late on. I watched all 4 seasons one after the other over the course of a few weeks. I thought Season 4 was the best one after Season 1. In fact, I remember reading the thread and most people seemed to think that. I was very excited for season 5, and when it ended up airing I was pretty disappointed at how bad it was compared to season 4. Stop accusing us of being biased, we know good TV when we see it.

Animosity was introduced between Astor and Dexter, then resolved. Quinn had a huge amount of evidence of dexter's unscrupulous acts and decides to do shit all with it. Lumen got introduced then put on a bus, I doubt we'll hear anything about her again in a future season. In fact, the only point that carries over is Deb's attitude to killing people. Not that we needed an entire season to setup the 2 lines of dialogue that shoehorned that plot point in.
Note: No-one has said that this season being shit means that Dexter is RUINED FOREVER and that all the subsequent seasons will be shit. We don't know anything about the next season and are therefore not qualified to comment, no matter how much you wish we did. We can however state with confidence that season 5 was in fact terrible.

Even if you're right, which for all I know you could be, that's two plot points carried over. Not with an entire season of filler just to accentuate one point that was already established and establish one point with two lines of poorly written dialogue.

What really annoyed me is how they avoided revealing Dexter serial killer's identity to Debra which would have been an actually interesting ending for the season.
They went for the cop out ending, with her letting the vigilantes go and Lumen leaving.
