Mind explaining why you say that? I'm not going to watch it until it airs so was wondering what makes you say it could go either way.
i found they put way to many subplots in the first episode
i mean if we go back to the very first episode of dexter it is completely dexter centered there is no lame subplots that feel irrelevent
I encourage everyone to watch the first season to really remind you how much better it was.
1. It was entirely Dexter focused.
2. It had a big twist, which really drove the already excellent narrative home.
3. It was a lot more artsy. A lot more different camera angles, interesting shots, and some equally interesting and cool effects.
4. The writing was snappy, and relatively free of cliches and hammy lines.
All in all, it was expertly crafted.
Now compare that to season 5. Season 5:
1. Has too many subplots that nobody gives a shit about, the show is less revolved around Dexter.
2. There have been no big twists ever since the first season, the overall plot archs are often stale, even on a good season.
3. The cinematography has become very boring and generic flat angles. Flat angle on one character, flat angle on another, shots switch back and forth until dialogue has finished, then it cuts to an exterior shot of a location before starting the routine again.
4. The writing has gone to shit, it's just one cliche after another and some of the hammiest lines I've seen outside of daytime soap operas.
Remember the part in season 1 where Dexter first sees the cut up corpse in the pool? Remember how the camera is a low shot focused on the body, and it slowly zooms in as Dexter draws near?
The entire first season is full of stuff like that. The following seasons have next to none of this, just boring flat dialogue angles.
Anyone who says any of the other seasons are better than season 1 is wrong, and also stupid.
i remember also that many of the scenes in season 1 had me on the edge of my chair in anticipation of what was going to happen next (like the scene where dexter fell over in the blood, that was such a 'holy shit' moment)
The saddest part about this once excellent show going down the shitter, is that the solution is really really easy. Get a few better writers, and get it back to its roots.
I think what they really need to do is some twists like in the book. Have Deb find out, that alone could make it really interesting

I haven't seen the leaked episode myself, but I've been reading people's reactions to it. They say the writing is a lot like season one, and not like five. I don't know about the camera work, so Rusty will just have to wait and see.
Either way I'm still excited to actually watch it on a TV for once, I got a free trial of show time. But once my trial is over I'll have to pirate it again :/

How does she find out in the book? What's her reaction? Does she help cover for him?
I've seen that "leaked" episode. I think, that after bad fifth season it's really good. [sp]It seems like it have a pretty neat villian - like in first and fourth season. Religious theme might be ok, but it's too early to judge. I like things that happend to Debra, Angel, Quinn and LaGuerta. It's quite fresh. And Dexter is not whining about that fucking Lumen. Whole episode few times made me laugh. That's nice. But hey, fifth season had a good start too.[/sp]
So wait, when does the first episode air?
And yes, I think the only good episode of the fifth season was the first one.

They started to drift away from the books, which might be why it becomes worse every season.

I disagree. Season 4 was better than both Season 2 and Season 3. Every season hasn't been bad, it just hasn't been as good as the other seasons. I don't see why everyone hates Season 5. It's definitely the worst one, but I'm still enjoying it. Even if the woman who plays Lumen is a horrible actress.

The first season also had Doakes. Can't go wrong with Doakes.

uuughghhg more laguerta shit, fuck OFF nobody cares about her!!!
[editline]24th September 2011[/editline]
this episode started off well but now it's just devolving into hammy shit
[editline]24th September 2011[/editline]
The episode kind of pulled it self back together, it was a good episode. Let's hope it stays that way and HOPEFULLY it gets even better
I was worried that season 6 could be even worse than season 5, but after seeing S06E01, I have faith in the writers. It looks very promising.
[sp]Dex took 'Hammer Time' to a whole new level :v:[/sp]
Remembering season 5 now, I still preferred Rita over Lumen. SUCH IS LIFE.
Trailer for season 6 looks great though, not to mention they used a song I love and it fits extremely well
Lumen was probably the worst character on the show, in my opinion. Was just "UGH!" every time she was onscreen.
Lumen was probably the worst character on the show, in my opinion. Was just "UGH!" every time she was onscreen.
All she did was complain and complain. And as soon as they were done she just leaves just like what the rest of the bitches do.
Not bad first episode, but same thing applied to the previous season's one for me. But the villain(s) seem a bit cool. Now this is just a guess and I'm not sure if I like the idea or not but I have a feeling [sp]that guy from Battlestar Galactica will turn out to be the young guy's Harry. Just like Dexter's, not really there.[/sp]
I will cry if they go overboard with the Religion
I will cry if they go overboard with the Religion
The villains seem pretty religious to me so most likely they will go overboard with it.
But why does it matter if the villains are religious? Dexter isn't and I doubt they'll just suddenly convert him to Christianity or something like that.
[sp]It's obvious that because of the shooting, Deb is going to get Lieutenant over the shooting because that guy recorded it, Quinn won't be able to propose to Deb anymore because of the shooting and how much attention she is getting.[/sp]
Aslong as there's no Lumen.
Fucking lumen I hate her so much.
pretty good episode.

Agreed fucking christ
she was killed off in the first book for a reason
She's married to one of the producers, so sadly I don't see them letting her go any time soon.
Agreed fucking christ

SOUNDS PROMISING.
Hopefully the producer she's banging isn't stupid enough to ignore this just for that reason
imo, the episode started off kinda weird, but it picked up as it progressed on.
Honestly, I'm pretty pumped for this season, looks like it could be pretty good.
I can't believe anyone is still watching this fucking atrocity. The show died with Lord Farquaad.
I can't believe anyone is still watching this fucking atrocity. The show died with Lord Farquaad.
I can't believe you still post in this thread if you don't like the show. Surely you have no new input if you're not watching it.
Anyway, decent episode. By the looks of it [sp]the villains are going to do a series of religious ritual killings[/sp], in which case the religious stuff might not be too bad. And hopefully [sp]laguerta's promotion puts her out of the picture a bit more, saying it doesn't look like she's with homicide anymore.[/sp]
