I hate her character and I hate Julie Benz. I can't stand her in anything she's in.

I hate her voice though.
;32742309']In almost everything I've seen her in she's seemed to be the "Oh you're working? Oh okay I'll just sit in the corner then..." character, which I don't really like
She's not like that in Buffy or Angel at all. I like her voice, I think she's sexy (since everyone's commenting on that).
I like Julie Benz but I've never ever seen her in a role which was really challenging.
Julie Benz was fucking amazing in Angel and in S2 of Buffy.
I like Julie Benz but I've never ever seen her in a role which was really challenging.
Disagree. Julie was amazing in Angel, and you know it. I think what makes me appreciate her acting more is that I completely believed her as both Darla and Rita, like, entirely. I grew up watching Buffy from its first season, when I was six, so in my eyes Julie = Darla. Then when I saw Dexter, I was stunned at how much I thought of her as Rita as well. It takes a good actor to do that. Were they super challenging roles? Maybe not the most challenging I can think of, but it doesn't mean she wasn't incredible in them.
;32742249']Damn I just realised the actor who played Rita (forgot her name, I think Julie Benz? :v:) Has been in quite a few other shows and such I watch. She was in SAW 5, an episode of Buffy, Supernatural and such. ...it's weird rewatching all this stuff, every time I'm like "It's Rit- oh wait"
'An episode of Buffy'? She's in multiple episodes of it, and in a shittonne of Angel eps, too. I'd say she's just as well known for that role as she is Dexter.
;32742354']I never really watched/got into Angel so I can't really comment but that sounds hilarious.
If you've seen Buffy and like it, you should get into Angel, you just need to give it a chance. Most people didn't like it because you really do need to watch the 3 seasons of Buffy beforehand to understand his story and why he does what he does, but it's also a different show, and it has a darker undertone. Also, season 4 (at least half of it) is a piece of shit, because one of the main actors got pregnant and they tried to accommodate her pregnancy into the storyline at the last minute without success. It's still an amazing show, though, and Julie is fantastic in it. She's absolutely nothing like you describe; she's actually one of the most badass characters in the entire Buffy/Angel universe. [editline]13th October 2011[/editline]
His stepsister annoys me, I don't like when women swear all the time like her for no reason at all.
When women swear for no reason at all? Why, because women are supposed to be all nice and quiet and subservient? Fuck that shit.
Julie Benz was fucking amazing in Angel and in S2 of Buffy.
I'm watching it right now and she's really good in it. Really fucking weird though after seeing her in Dexter so much.
Well I gotta admit Rita was pretty hot after the whole Paul-problem was taken care of Also I wonder if the Brother black man is gonna become Dexter's friend.. but then he's probably gonna end up dead, like most people that got to know Dexter better.
Except her range was really small there was nothing Edward Norton/primal fear or whatever (you know the one I'm talking about) about her acting
No way. Rita in Dexter and Darla in Buffy/Angel are on completely different ends of the spectrum. But you're right, she's no Edward Norton.

In series 5 where there's just those few flashbacks to the 1800's with Spike and Angel. Series 2 I do not remember so well, so if she's bigger in that I'll take your word for it And yeah many people have told me "You like Buffy? You have to watch Angel, it's just as good" And I don't remember why but I just never got around to seeing it properly but I really do need to. I THINK I watched an episode or two at one stage or another though, are Cordelia and Wesley in it at one time or another? If so yeah it's pretty good
When women swear for no reason at all? Why, because women are supposed to be all nice and quiet and subservient? Fuck that shit.
Well I hate when men swear a lot for no reason at all. Women are just picking up on a pet peeve of mine.

Darla's only in the first season of Buffy as an actual character, because she gets dusted fairly early on; the rest of it is in flashbacks. I was referring to Angel when I said season 2... she's in it a lot more; she's an almost-major character in seasons 2 and 3 of it (although she does feature prominently in flashbacks as well). I'm weary of giving too much away if you do watch it (which you should!), so you'll understand if/when you see it. I would argue Angel is, at times, better than its predecessor, but it is different. Cordy and Wesley are in it like 80% of the entire show, so if you like their characters, you'll be happy. They do undergo a lot of character development, but that's a good thing, I think. [editline]13th October 2011[/editline]
Well I hate when men swear a lot for no reason at all. It's just now women are doing it more than they used to, and I'm not accustomed to it yet. I don't mind language. Sometimes it's just way too over the top. I mean why does this character have to swear in every single sentence? "How the hell was your date?" "This is our fucking guy." [editline]13th October 2011[/editline] It's not gender specific, I hate over the top language, no matter who is using it. That other cop who swears at Dexter annoys me even more than she does.
It's just her personality.
I would like to say that Dexter (the show) is back on track again, but then I think back on how season 1 was and how it wasn't all about the people around Dexter but rather isolated and sticking to the shows' name. Still, a lot better than season 5 and parts of season 4 as well in my opinion.
I've gotten used to men swearing too much. It's just now women are doing it more than they used to, and I'm not accustomed to it yet.
Yeah, that's because of feminism. I'd advise you to get used to it.
I don't mind language. Sometimes it's just way too over the top. I mean why does this character have to swear in every single sentence? "How the hell was your date?" "This is our fucking guy."
She doesn't literally swear in every single sentence. It's done for a reason. One, Deb's trying to make homicide at the beginning of the show, and wants to be known as more than just an attractive woman; swearing is a way for her to do that. Secondly, she doesn't exactly conform to gender expectations (basically she's not a frilly pink girl), so it goes with who she is at heart. Look at the way she dresses (not the hooker outfit she's wearing when introduced, obviously, but the outfits she wears by choice). Third, it makes people underestimate her. Over the show's course she becomes an extremely competent cop, but she takes people by surprise; that's a big part of it. Fourth, she's lonely. She's been ignored by her father her whole life because he was busy with Dexter, and it's shown that she doesn't have a lot of close friends. It's hardened her up over the years. Swearing is a way of showing that to the audience. That's why. [editline]14th October 2011[/editline] Also lol you think 'hell' is a swear word?
Because

I'm not trying to start an argument. All I said was that she swears too much for my liking, so do many other characters on the show. [editline]14th October 2011[/editline] Right now the only character that doesn't annoy me for one reason or another is Dexter.

[editline]14th October 2011[/editline] Right now the only character that doesn't annoy me for one reason or another is Dexter.
That's not all you said, though. You explicitly asked why she swears so much. I gave you four reasons as to why. News flash: People swear. Women are people, and, thus, they swear. Dexter is just being realistic when it portrays people as swearing. I appreciate that you're not trying to start an argument. What you said sounded pretty misogynistic, though. Like women shouldn't swear because that's just improper. That's such bullshit. [editline]14th October 2011[/editline] I was trying to show that the show isn't gratuitous in its portrayal of swearing. And if you were going to be morally outraged at something on the show, probably swearing isn't the first thing that would come to mind.
"Swearing unnecessarily annoys me, but I'm okay with serial killing."
I tried explaining to my boss the premise of Breaking Bad. He replied "That doesn't sound very good at all, let's sell drugs to the kiddies! See, with Dexter, you can relate, you kind of what to kill those people too." Okay, psycho.
I can't relate to Dexter anymore. He's turned into a piece of cardboard. You almost never get any real, deep emotional insight from him anymore. Like, ever. Every now and again he gets an epiphany, with no real leadup. That's it. FUCK THE NEW WRITERS THEY ARE RETARDS
The writers discussing how they wrote the villains for each season.
They definitely should have made another season with the trinity killer instead of the season 5 that was. And it sounds like dexter might turn Christian this season.
When did the new writers take over? I want to know when I can expect a change.
Season 5 and 6 are the new writers. And by writers I mean a bunch of monkeys smeared shit on a stack of paper.
