Oh man the beeping in that first video.
I keep forgetting just how much she swears.
And yeah, 6x07 was weird. The fact that his brother left at the end of it just made the whole thing feel redundant. What was even accomplished by that. Showing that he still has light in him I guess? And I suppose trying to have a less story driven episode to break up the season a little. But yeah, out of character. Though when those sorts of episodes come along, I just choose to believe I don't know the character quite as well as I thought. Denial saved the experience.

As I was watching this episode I said to myself more than a few times "What?! Dexter would never do that." Some of his behavior caught me completely off guard, but that's also what I liked about it. When the writer's throw these bumps in the road it makes the character very unpredictable which is what I like. I was actually a little disappointed that his brother was done away with so quickly. I wanted to see how far Dexter would spiral out of control before he had to catch himself before he really crossed the line. I know deep down his mom's murder really fucked him up, but I refuse to believe that he's just some kind of perfect, calculating robot that can do no wrong. At the end of the day he's human and he should be overcome by emotion at times extreme stress.
I just finished season 4. So what exactly happened to the writers after season 4? Can someone link an article or something because I want to know what exactly will be different in the future.
I know people say season 5 is bad, but would it be better for me to stop now and preserve my memories of the show, or to go on and watch the rest?
I would just end it with an another one, but two more seasons?
If they keep getting worse, then it's just terrible for Dexter.
Is it possible without spoilers to explain why the show got so bad after season 4 according to you guys?

Lumen.
Poor writing, expanding useless subplots
I know someone said before the writers changed. What does that mean? Did every writer get replaced or what happened?
And I've disagreed with FP before on some TV shows. How would you guys say Dexter seasons 5 and 6 compare to AMC's the walking dead? TWD gets a lot of hate on facepunch but I don't have much of a problem with it.
I think the main complaint is the premise of the character is getting harder to justify as the series goes on. I mean how many back to back serial killers can one US city have? In an effort to not let the show get stagnant and fall into some kind of predictable formula the writers go out of there way to really through some curve balls at Dexter that seem, to some, unreasonably out of character. I don't blame the writers. It's very hard to keep the audience interested while keeping the writing true to character and it's only going to get harder as the show goes on. I'm personally in for the long haul. I'd rather judge the show on my own than risk ruining the oh so sacred character image of Dexter. If you watched any of the Transformer movies you know that nothing is sacred anymore.
They replaced the writers with some people who worked on 24.
worst decision of all time

Facepunch's hate for TWD is bullshit. They can't see that it's a drama show and keep complaining about a lack of action and zombies. (Although I will admit the whole subplot with that little girl is really fucking stupid)
The hate for this is somewhat justified. Season 5 and 6 are no-where near the quality of the first 4 seasons, but I still think they're worth watching. Much better than a lot of other crap on TV. Everyone's making it up to be the worst thing ever, when it's still quite enjoyable. Just not as believable or quite as interesting.

The hate for the show is [i]not[/i] stupid and is very justified.
Yes, it's about drama, but the drama is handled very poorly. The characters are not written well, and are forgettable and unlikeable, sans Daryl. All the characters feel two dimensional, and thus nobody cares about the ensuing poorly written drama between them.
People only say 'it's a zombie show, more zombies' because the drama is so laughable bad, that without zombies, the show then has nothing going for it. If it's going to have such terrible drama, it could at least make up for it with more zombies. But it rarely does.

I reckon Rick is a good character, and Shane is becoming more and more interesting as time goes on. A lot of the side characters are complete shit (*cough*Andrea*cough*), but I find most of the main characters likeable and reasonably written for.
Sans Laurie. God I hate her
[QUOTE=Rusty100;33282244]How do you expect me not to whine with writing this poor? A lot of people here know what's up, they really butchered his character and made him do things he would never normally do. It is really an eyeopener for anyone who was starting to think this season would be okay. A grand reveal for how terrible these writers really are. Honestly, there are so many things wrong with the new episode I could write a god damn thesis on it. But I won't, as I feel like it's all fairly obvious anyway. It's not like I'm the odd one out here, I think there's a general consensus that this episode BLEW. Every tiny little detail about it off. Dexter setting himself up to get caught leaving dozens of witnesses from just about everything he did. Dexter is more careful than this. The introduction of the Rudy ghost was pointless and sudden, the writers had no better ideas. Someone already pointed out he fired way too many bullets, and that scene was so retarded in the first place. The thing where Rudy ghost stabs the dude but it was Dexter. There's no way he could have accomplished that while being held up. It makes no sense. Literally nothing in this episode was well written and made the slightest bit of sense. Really think about the events of this episode. Don't turn your brain off. Turning your brain off to enjoy something is counter productive and encourages lazy and nonsensical writing. And if you have to turn your brain off to enjoy Dexter, the same show that was so incredibly smart, sharp and well written in season 1, you have got to realise something is very wrong.[/QUOTE]
I'm not arguing that this season is great, but about the stabbing thing, I think the idea is that sometimes things don't play out in Dexter's head as they actually do in real life. This can be seen when Dexter has an entire conversation with his ghost dad in the blink of an eye, because when he snaps out of it barely any time has passed to anyone else around him. And whenever he's talking to his ghost dad, I'm willing to bet that he's not actually saying anything out loud either. I think in this particular scenario all you have to think is that in Dexter's head, he was being pinned for all that time up until the dude got stabbed, but perhaps in reality he shoved the guy back, picked up the pitchfork and stabbed him. It's not that huge of a leap, Dexter has proven to be skilled in the art of self-defense, has he not? It's more of a short time lapse than an error of logic.
It was a huge continuity problem, they always show what Dexter does to get out of shit like that.
He would have got shot, but poor writing/direction saved him from that situation.

Do you have an article or something that explains it, just so I can understand? I looked up later seasons and the episode to episode directors/screenplay writers, a lot of them were working on earlier seasons. Im just wonderinng overall how different the "new writers" are from the old ones.

Just watched the Season 5 premiere. I really couldn't tell a difference in the writing, no matter how hard I tried.
Man this is the first time in a long time a TV show has made me cry.
i feel like the only reason i am still watching the show is not because im captivated by the extreme suspense but rather that im completely confused as to what is going on and am hoping finishing the season will make sense of it all.
Definitely liked this episode.
Reminded me a lot of Seasons 1 and 2.
Jesus Christ why the fuck is LaGuerta even in this show? This episode was great except for every scene with her in it. Her "subplot" is complete shit and she's just annoying. She shows up, says nothing of importance, acts like a complete bitch and then fucks off for a bit. She is the worst character ever.

disliked her since the first episode

She was at least bearable in the seasons before 5, but she's just so unbelievably written and pointless now.
5 minutes in and i'm already having issues with the latest ep
Dexter is a very manipulative person. He's good at persuading people with his words and lying. Why is it the best he could come up with is 'I'm sorry' for fucking his sister over so badly? Did he completely forget he has a dead wife? He could bring up the recent trinity copycat or whatever in conjunction to his wife who was killed by the trinity killer, be like "it just brought back up a lot of stuff, i mean what with rita..." i mean that's reason enough for deb to go like 'oh... im so sorry'
[editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
it's little shit like this, it just make the show feel 'not right', like dexter is no longer dexter. he's not smart or cunning anymore.
[editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
he, as a person, actually feels
very dumb now. does anyone else feel this? that dexter is just a big stupid idiot?
[editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
i'm sorry that i keep complaining in the dexter thread but I can't be the only one noticing the colossal shift in character

There is a massive shift. However, Debra also lost Lundy, the one guy she actually wanted to commit to. The same killer almost struck her down as well. He can't excuse it with Rita's death, because Deb likely felt the exact same way.
Besides, this whole season has been about a crisis of faith for Dexter. When before it was about finding someone to connect with, this season is about reflection on his deeds and how it will affect his son. The same thing was touched upon in the season that shall not be named, but it wasn't the focal point. For the T.V. adaptation of Dexter, I'm wholly loving it. I eat it up, because the conflict of morality is represented, I think, pretty well.
Though personally, I prefer heartless asshole book Dexter.
Its amazing how they have made almost every character in Dexter completely one dimensional. LaGuerta is now a stuck up bitch, Quin is a bland douchebag, Deb is a cursing emotional mess, i mean what the fuck? This is disgusting, after this season im done with these shit writers and im rewatching the old seasons.
colin sounds so much like tom when he yells
The Dexter intro is so fucking long :K
