good for you ??

to say 'incredibly low standards' implies that 90% of the rest of TV isn't 1000x worse than dexter
which is really rather disturbing
The idea that boys want to sleep with their mothers strikes most men as the silliest thing they have ever heard. Obviously, it did not seem so to Freud, who wrote that as a boy he once had an erotic reaction to watching his mother dressing. But Freud had a wet-nurse, and may not have experienced the early intimacy that would have tipped off his perceptual system that Mrs. Freud was his mother. The Westermarck theory has out-Freuded Freud. —Steven Pinker, How the Mind Works
I'd say the new seasons of dexter are among the masses of horrendous daytime tv soap operas

I disagree. The taboo surrounding incest is culturally contingent.
If Pinker wrote "strikes most North Western White men", then perhaps I would agree.
The issue is that mother-son incest is often reported as a positive experience (as opposed to most of the other kinds of incest which tends to be more rape than anything).
I don't imagine that Japanese proponents of 'Mama love' would see it as that weird.

Then why on earth would you bother watching?
If dexter actually sunk that low I wouldn't watch it. It's not there yet.
After watching all 4 seasons of Breaking Bad and then watching the latest episode of Dexter, it was like comparing gold to that long, hard piece of shit you shit after not shitting for a couple of days.

i get what you are saying but thats a bit of an exageration.
however in breaking bad, the elements of tension and the cinematography are incredibly good and they
make every scene in the series be much more powerful and affecting to the viewer.
or the last season of homeland
I have learned so much about incest by reading this thread.
Also at least this isn't as horrible as Heroes season 3. Heroes is the only show I've actually just lost all hope in. What a pile of shit that became.
And who else noticed that Dexter didn't change his clothes after crawling out of the sea?
He wore it to the play and everything. Gross.
I guess you were smart enough to never have faith in lost or prison break
I guess you were smart enough to never have faith in lost or prison break
Never even watched them. Got into big series stuff after I gave up on Heroes. I'm pretty late to the party.
oh man Prison Break ending was terrible
I gave up on it during the third season.
Aside from the fact I despise the two brothers in that show, I actually really liked the second season.
Lost was terrible from the start though, and Heroes at least started out pretty good.
One thing that bothered me tremendously about this episode was, what the flying FUCK was the point of Dexter's face being plastered on to that devil's face like a bad photoshop. Why the FUCK would everyone suddenly decide not to go inside the crime scene and investigate things BEFORE determining that they needed to send in the blood guy first of all without anyone else following him inside to look at the goddamn crime scene.
The only reason Dexter managed to hammer that ugly thing up, is because of luck and complete fucking lack of common sense and any at all competence from his suddenly completely retarded colleges.
And then he went into the church WHERE DEBRA KNEW HE WAS GOING TO BE!!
someone had been dumping idiot powder into Miami's water supply

I really am considering not at all watching the next season. at least, that's how i felt before the season finale. they're basically forcing me to at least watch episode 1 now. but they'll probably fuck it up and i can ignore the rest of the season.

Shit, you ruined it, that's the plot of the next season.

I am sorry, I seem to have insulted you and I apologize as you have a far superior taste in television thus you are better then me. I will return to my cave as I am a brainless slob and watch my mush, oh noble one.

Lazy and unintelligent writers

Watch Debra not care like Dexter didn't care about Rita after he ment Lumen.

this is what i dont get. People still enjoy the show despite these massive plot holes and sloppy cover-ups that have been delivered this season. Its just so sloppy compared to the other seasons and on its own I consider it as bad as crappier tv dramas. Before there was always a consequence or danger for Dexter's actions. If he was not careful he would pay dearly for it, but when he did make a mistake it was an honest one, one that couldnt really be avoided all that easily or one that you and I could make. When it comes to this season however, you have moments where Dexter is completely reckless and nothing came back to bite him in the ass. Sure, the whole poison gas thing got him, but it was an easily avoidable issue that had a predictable outcome. One massive point that they forgot about is how many people saw him in Nebraska and nothing happened. He was clearly seen chasing Jonah, and Jonah couldve easily told someone about Dexter. But that whole thing went nowhere, nobody really questioned him about it, and Deb drops it after the episode to an unconvincing argument by Dexter. Dexter has always been good at covering his tracks but here its just half assed to the point where you question Miami Metro's intelligence. The kinds of excuses Dexter has used this season is just as bad as what you or I could make up on the spot. No creativity and no moment of, "Wow Dexter that was a smart cover/alibi." I feel like this show has lost that touch, the cleverness behind Dexter that made him so interesting to begin with.

I've read this exact post like a million times before, Rusty. Why do you keep torturing yourself, if indeed it's so fucking horrible?

It's still very possible that the nebraska consequences come next season (but to be honest I doubt the writers will even mention it)
speaking of mentioning, I don't think any of what happened on the previous season was even addressed on this season.

just because a lot of people 'like' something, doesnt mean its good. Look at transformers for example, making a lot of money being a terrible movie with crappy story, etc.

I wasn't trying to say that, I was trying to say it's stupid to berate people due to their preferences in something as insignificant as TV shows.

except this show is terrible now and enjoying it in any other way besides something to watch if you're bored, to laugh at or when you're taking a shit or something makes you just as terrible for being oblivious to the enormous flaws in this show

I'm not oblivious, I'm accepting. "It's not great but it's still not shit" is my standing. And most other peoples I would think.
These arguments whether Dexter is still good or if the changes has made the show completely shit reminds me too much of back when I used to frequent the TF2 forum.
