A lot of you guys are acting like they'd be acting like any old manly man/womanly woman until one day they decide they aren't. If somebody got to the point where they knew they really wanted a sex change and got one they're going to have been acting like the opposite gender for some time anyway so it's not like it's a sudden change. Yeah they'd look different and admittedly that would be kind of weird so anybody would think of them differently but not a sudden shift from love to hate or for some fucked up reason the other way around.

Treating your child any different simply because of whom they mature into is utterly wrong. Your son/daughter will never stop being your children, but it's easy for parents to think it's okay to abandon their children. When, after all, all we truly seek after is the admiration of our parents, among other things.

Uhh, if my girl got sex-changed into a boy I would no longer think of them as my daughter. I would think of the child as my son.

Yes. I think it would make the relationship between us a lot more awkward than before, unless they acted the opposite sex their whole life.

If I said no I'd be a hypocrite. I mean come on. You can't just accept a person being a male for 30 years then just fully accept him to be a female the next. I wouldn't make them feel bad about their decision but I'm just saying it won't be easy to accept it.

Something I have been wondering is this: There is a disorder called "body integrity disorder". Essentially, someone is dissatisfied with, say, an arm, and decides they want it off. If I'm a doctor and someone comes up to me and they NEED to have their arm cut off, and I see nothing wrong with the arm, I don't respond by doing so. I don't initiate months of consultations to see "is this what you REALLY want?" I attempt to talk them out of it. But if a 40-year-old man with kids comes to me, and says "I want to be a woman", I know that it would be difficult to actually make them into something that wouldn't be stared at in the street. Furthermore, if he's a 40-year-old man with a wife and kids, it would be better for the wife, the kids, and the man if he could be happy with what he is. Why do we treat it differently? In before I just said something stupid and now i'm going to see hell for it

I'm not going to lie, I would be pissed as hell. I would disown my child if they did that.

I wouldn't care. It's his body, let him do what he wants to it. I'd at least ask him why and try to convince him to accept what nature gave him, though.
