I never looked into Zebra 2, but that looks like the kind of shit I would just dick around on for like 6 continuous hours. It doesn't seem like there's many plugins with custom waveforms that actually aren't shit either, so that's nice too.
Ok after a few hours of playing with zebra 2 can confirm it is the literal bee's fuckin knees, seriously recommend you guys check this shit out.
Everyone should really give Spire a try too. It does a great job of making those really modern and bouncy EDM synths. Some nice presets as well.
Spire is fucking amazing!
Yeah, you should get spire, it's like the new sylenth
How is the synth that comes in around 0:17 done?
How is the synth that comes in around 0:17 done?
I got a pretty similar sound by stacking three oscillators in Zebra 2 and running them through a lowpass. Not perfect, but close enough for 5 minutes work https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3865654/Temp/fantasy_pluck.wav [thumb]http://puu.sh/9Kp9v/630cf1980c.png[/thumb] Osc 1 is just a saw wave tuned an octave down, nothing special. Osc 2 is a pulse wave set to dual unison mode with some slight detuning. Osc 3 is another saw, but tuned an octave up instead of an octave down, and with the same unison and detune settings as Osc 2. From there it's all about tweaking the lowpass filter and the envelope settings to get the right tone Mix-wise I definitely hear some slapback delay in there, and maybe some chorus too.
petition to rename thread to "synth sound identification"
petition to rename thread to "synth sound identification"
Why? It literally would make no difference
petition to rename thread to "synth sound identification"
It's also not only about synth sounds soo
I'm just sad cause no one knew how to do my request :(
I'm just sad cause no one knew how to do my request :(
I'm no guitarist, but the sound designer in me says it's just guitar feedback with some effects slapped on top (mostly a filter with some cutoff modulation, some delay and reverb for good measure, maybe a bit of phasing or light chorus). Could be completely wrong, but it's worth a shot. There's a plugin called CamelSpace that's great for effects like that, it's got a filter, a flanger, reverb, delay, etc, plus a lot of great presets if you need inspiration. I'd say grab the trial if you don't already have it and see how close you can get.
I'm just sad cause no one knew how to do my request :(
That's because there are few actual guitarists here and most people here work with software instead of proper gear.
Alright, time for another request: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKbtC223e30 The drums in this one, how would I go on about making them, or are there a sample pack out there where I can find those cheesy 80s drums? I'm a sucker for toms from the 80s.

The Akai Linndrum might have what you need, but there's plenty more in there.

Don't need anything else.
had a second stab at the reese chaz requested a while ago, made this in 3xosc and fruity waveshaper with some notch EQing :v: https://soundcloud.com/morganhicks/3xosc-reese/s-q8Gd1
had a second stab at the reese chaz requested a while ago, made this in 3xosc and fruity waveshaper with some notch EQing :v: https://soundcloud.com/morganhicks/3xosc-reese/s-q8Gd1
Please tell me how to do this!! It sounds so crispy
Basically require 3xosc ringmodding itself, you can do this by activating the osc3>am button at the bottom of the plugin. Then have osc3 set to -2 or -3 notes down from the base oscillator (osc 1 or 2). I then ran it through fruity waveshaper, and had the shape set to a wave, to be honest the wave amount is entirely upon taste but I set it to 4 waves. Then some multiband compression to warm it up and make it sound "crispy" as you mentioned :v: and then for the vowelly movement I automated a notch filter that filtered out a small portion of the mids then moved up to the highs. I'm shit at explaining things but I hope this helped :) [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] I could upload the project file if that would help more? [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] here is the link. Let me know if you guys run into any issues ***You'll need the ohmforce ohmicide distortion unit VST, it's quite essential to the sound
That would be awesome, reverse engineering!
Toyed with it a bit and made a little justice-esque track https://soundcloud.com/morganhicks/une-baguette/s-UOkEr you could really take this synths to all kinds of lengths :v:
Yeah, good reese basses are really fun and fit in a lot of tracks. Here's a dnb track I've been working on with a particularly nasty reese in it... https://soundcloud.com/sonis/technology-04/s-0zTrb And a more mellowed out half time track with a really cool reese in it... https://soundcloud.com/sonis/movement-03/s-1eKVt And a dark trappy 160bpm track with a reese under it... https://soundcloud.com/sonis/hard-arps-05/s-I1yFO All just links since the tracks are still WIP and private. Once you get the basics down it's a really fun sound to make.
reeses are awesome, all those neuro reeses/growls/whatevers are all really fun to make and can teach a lot about sound design all right, so i'm here with a request, i've been trying to figure out how to make this sound forever but i just can't seem to get it right. most of you have probably heard this before: what i'm looking for is that sound at 0:15 and 0:21, that really distorted square wave-like sound. i tried distorting the hell out of a square wave but it just didn't sound the same. what's driving me crazy is how simple it sounds and that i've heard it in a few tracks but i just can't figure it out. if anyone could help out it would be awesome.
i'd bet it's a sine wave distorted and with some delay, but since you already tried that... it sounds really simple, doesn't seem like it's something recorded and manipulated, so it must be a synth. try to get a synth to pass through notes with a glissando, put some delay, some distortion (try to do that amplifying it till it distorts manually, not by using some plug in). idk really, that's what i'd try, but the answer is definitely in a synth
put your mic down your throat and start crying loudly

The main interest in the sound is coming from the pitch bends though for sure.
i tried some of the suggestions and it came out pretty well, i'll probably keep working on it before i post any clips of what i got. i'm just having trouble with that subtle delay/reverb at the end of the sound and unfortunately i don't think i have any audio clips of me trying to fit my H4n down my throat, sorry MilkBagz
does anyone know how to recreate the synth from Sandstorm? I'm really not good with emulating sounds in VSTs, I don't really know what does what at all

do you guys have any tips on reverse engineering sounds? i'd like to look into that some more, it seems like an awesome thing to be able to do
