i guess that shouldn't be that surprising [editline]4th July 2011[/editline] i'm sure more would die if arthur's seat was in glasgow though
you know, when i was in edinburgh i was all "this sucks/is boring/everyones a dick" but when i got back to glasgow, and I walked out of Queen St, the scent of piss overwhelmed me and I was really happy how fucking amazing edinburgh is.
A word of advice from experience, guys: Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER try to clean your camera's innards by yourself. You will do more harm than good. After determining that the specks on my viewfinder were not on the lens I was using, I did some research online and tried cleaning the external bit of the viewfinder, the mirror, and the focus screen. I won't go into details, but in the end, the specks are still there, and while I don't think I damaged any part of my camera, there are now a few more very light/defocused specks (probably on the mirror?) I feel like a terrible idiot (like REALLY bad) and am now incredibly thankful that I didn't actually damage my beautiful piece of equipment that I cannot afford to replace at this point in time. Moral of the story: If there's shit in your viewfinder, either have a professional clean it, or DEAL WITH IT.
I once blow dusted the mirror part when i changed lenses and some threads got in, works fine right now.
all I think I need to trigger 20 DSLR's at the same time
reminds me of this http://www.jasongroupp.com/blog/2011/05/guinness-world-recordmost-flashes-used-to-make-a-photograph/ They set off 300 flashes Who needs one light when you can like 300
It's a softbox made of flashes.
My life goal now is to make a huge flash sun that can illuminate the dark side of the earth with a single flash. I'll need a load of AA batteries though.
no man use the D cell ones
There seems to be quite a few speckles on there. I do plan on getting it cleaned when I get home. I can't wait to post what I've shot though. [editline]6th July 2011[/editline] I can't shoot at max aperture, that's for sure.
My life goal now is to make a huge flash sun that can illuminate the dark side of the earth with a single flash. I'll need a load of AA batteries though.
I did a quick calculation. To illuminate half the Earth to the same intensity as the sun, using an array of flashguns 1 meter off the ground, with a light pulse lasting 1/1000 seconds, it would require 360,365,868,000 Joules of energy. That would equal completely discharging 71,064,064 average alkaline AA batteries, or 7,106,406,400 if you made this sort of realistic and got 1/100th of a discharge per battery so you'd get 100 shots from your flashgun.
more triggerlicious progress! and my 'workbench'
I did a quick calculation. Assuming that a 1/1000th of a second is enough to discharge my flash on the brightest settings then the number of flashes lined up 1 meter of the ground would be 7,207,317,360. So almost the same number of batteries needed. Of course if I buy all those flashes I would also need batteries. That means 7,207,317,360 times 5 batteries since each Sb-600 flash takes 5 batteries. Essentially that's 35 billion AA batteries.
I've been messing around with panoramic stitching, and it's been bothering me for a bit. Here is an example of the stuff i've done. Is it any good? And before you say anything, YES IT IS THE FACEPUNCH STUDIO'S OFFICE. Does anyone have a better program, or CC on how to get better results?
What were you doing there?
photoshop works well
What about anything free? Am I able to get good results with something like that?
How about hugin? i use that
How about hugin? i use that
I'll throw the pictures in that I made the previous stitches in and post results. Do you have any suggestions on how to photograph them better?

Sb-600 flashes use only 4 batteries, unless you have an sb-800 which has the optional 5-battery power pack that wont work, but the sb-800 has a higher guide number meaning that we would need to redo the calculations!
stop [editline]6th July 2011[/editline] you guys are making my head hurt :(
Why.
is that for the iPhone 4? [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] my life is complete
It looks pretty good, actually.
Thanks. Those pics were snapped with an iPhone 4, as I don't have a steady enough tripod for my D40. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
How about hugin? i use that
I tried using it, but it's really confusing.
I went and finished off that roll I loaded in my Praktica today, hoping it actually turns out. I'm getting it developed at Wal-Mart now, and I ordered a disk, so it'll be a bit pricier of a waste if the film was crap.
What about anything free? Am I able to get good results with something like that?
autostitch works quite well http://cvlab.epfl.ch/~brown/autostitch/autostitch.html

They don't even allow you to just get the negatives back.
Not really, the cd is their cheapest option. They don't even allow you to just get the negatives back.
whaaaaat
heading to Cape Canaveral tonight and hopefully shuttle will launch on schedule tomorrow. I don't have time to rent any fancy super-zooms but ill see what kind of pictures i can bring you guys
autostitch works quite well http://cvlab.epfl.ch/~brown/autostitch/autostitch.html
I got virtually an identical output, just with a similar interface. I don't have time to give the app a go, but anyone else who could give it a go would be awesome.
