I went to the science museum in London today to pass the time with a friend, the tables at the restaurant are lit up which makes photographing random shit immensely fun.

I wanted to get one but everyone on this forum was all "no no, get a canon". Oh well.

David Peat is an award-winning documentary film-maker from Scotland. Travelling across the globe for the past 40 years, he has also been building a huge portfolio from his passion for street photography.
But the 64-year-old had never enlarged any of the pictures beyond tiny contact sheets until two years ago, when he was diagnosed with Myeloma, an incurable cancer.
Not wanting to leave thousands of uncatalogued, unseen images lying in boxes he began going through the collection - starting with the photographs he had shot of children playing in the Gorbals in Glasgow in the 1960s.

Okay, really fun but that lens is not an integral element of the Pentax body.
it is a mystery
Also, I've been to the doctor today and was diagnozed with a nasty bacterial infection of my throat. Got some antibiotics prescribed so I'm pretty much grounded at home. Guess it's time for more dog pictures.
It's one of their DA lenses, which are weather sealed.
what's peoples opinion on corel paint shop pro photo?
i quite like it
I don't really like Corel. But I've only used Corel Draw. I hated it.
do most/all people in this forum use photoshop then? i assume so
Ah, for photography it's more likely they use Lightroom/Aperture.
I use Photoshop because I already had it and it's way too troublesome to LEGALLY PURCHASE Lightroom. And I'm not good enough to justify buying Aperture.
Photoshop can do everything Lightroom can but Lightroom can't do everything Photoshop does - BUT Lightroom gives you much more ease-of-control and convenience along with all the organizing and presets etc.
I couldn't live without either, but if I had to pick one, I'd go Photoshop and just tough it out.
I don't use photoshop. I used to be one of those pirate all my everything people, but now I don't. I use bibble5 to process raw photos, and I use gimp or PDN to make any further changes.
lightroom streamlines the major controls for photography-specific editing and introduces a good organizational system. I like the ease of use, but like bopie said if I had to choose one or the other I'd go with PS.
Everyone should read this, and then keep it in mind every single time you listen to criticism from anyone that you don't know to have a perfect reputation
Why You Shouldn’t Give Too Much Weight to Anonymous Online Critics
[release]
Back in 2006, Flickr user André Rabelo submitted the above photograph to the group pool of DeleteMe!, a group whose members vote on photos to weed out any photos that aren’t “incredible pictures, amazing, astonishing, perfect”. Sadly, the photograph was very quickly removed by popular vote.
Here are some of the criticisms the voters had:
When everything is blurred you cannot convey the motion of the bicyclist. On the other hand, if the bicyclist is not the subject– what was?

Why is the staircase so “soft”? Camera shake? Like the angle though.

so small. so blurry. to better show a sense of movement SOMETHING has to be in sharp focus

Nicely composed, but blurry

This looks contrived, which is not a bad thing. If this is a planned shot, it just didn’t come out right. If you can round up Mario, I would do it again. This time put the camera on a tripod and use the smallest aperture possible to get the best DoF. What I would hope for is that the railings are sharp and that mario on the bike shows a blur. Must have the foreground sharp, though. Without that, the image will never fly.

yeah and? grey, blurry, small, odd crop

bit too blurred to be worth a save from me

Fantastic composition, but the tones and the graininess keep the photo from being great.
What’s funny about this story is that Rabelo had the last laugh — the photograph is actually “Hyeres, France, 1932″, a famous photograph by the French photographer and “father of modern photojournalism”, Henri Cartier-Bresson. Made in 1932, the photo sold at auction in 2008 for a whopping $265,000.
This just goes to show that you shouldn’t let anonymous online critics dictate how you photograph. While it’s great to receive feedback and certainly worthwhile to hear things that help you improve your technique, the criticisms you hear online are often from people who don’t know what they’re talking about, so don’t give too much weight to negative comments!

H4Z3Y, you should put an updated version of database_schema.sql on your github. Or am I missing something somewhere with the users table?

I knew it was weather sealed, but THAT is crazy.
Well, I certainly know what my first DSLR will be now.

i used paint shop pro when it was still made by jasc (before they were bought by corel), it was alright at the time, though when i got photoshop i was all like woahh
H4Z3Y, you should put an updated version of database_schema.sql on your github. Or am I missing something somewhere with the users table?
to directly answer your question, that db schema is totally out of date.
however, shutter is nowhere near ready for use by an average Joe. if you do still want to use it add me on steam and I can walk you through the setup process (which hasn't properly been done yet).

I find lightroom to be so much easier to use for editing photos. the layout and organization is a lot better than PS and if you're just starting on editing your photos I would definitely recommend lightroom.
Photoshop is way more powerful but you'll most likely end up using 2% of its functions. This exact 2% that's useful to you is what Lightroom focuses on, and that's why it's so nifty.

I'd like to point out I recognized the picture immediately, thanks to facepunch. The Photography documentary that was posted a few weeks ago somewhere, it has a segment on that photo
+ we're Facepunch, we know our shit :v: (or so we like to believe)
I use photoshop and lightroom, Lightroom for the standard level editing and Photoshop for heavy editing or manipulation. (Not pirated)
very completely off topic, but i got bored and worked out a formula for the frequency of a note from a reference frequency and the number of notes per octave
decimalised octaves, fuck yeah :v:
[editline]17th July 2011[/editline]
certainly doesn't sound good though

In other news, my neighbour told me today of an awesome-looking train bridge just a few kilometers away from where I live so I went there by bicycle and it sucked.
I am now sad because I wasted a shitload of time.
