Just got a hold of a Pentax MX and a Minolta Dynax 7000I The Pentax came with a 50mm 1.2, I think.

It looks baked.
probably because it was drawn by cccritical but I like the smug
Decided to tag along to my parents fishing trip, finally got a shot that I've always wanted to get since starting photography. It's not breathtaking or "fresh" by a longshot but it'll hold a special place in my heart. I also have to find out if content-aware can remove a person from background BOKEH.

you can buy a $150 warranty on Amazon. :v: I've always hated that because I'm really clumsy. too bad Tamron doesn't make DSLRs. [editline]5th August 2011[/editline] make sure you read the fine print with that warranty, though.
I'd ~assume~ since it's being sold "new" through Amazon that it's going to have Nikon's full warranty, which I think is one year by default for body and lens, extendable to five years on the lens if you fill out some paperwork (free). The body warranty is handled by the retailer and the 1 year lens warranty is on a card, so you don't have to worry about that. Oh and if you're REALLY nervous you can get it direct from Amazon for $798.54 (More Buying Choices on the right) but I doubt you'd have issues with Electronics Expo. Also $150 warranty? Fuck that go bubble wrap.
This looks pretty interesting. http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/05/hoodcap-flower-concept-gives-you-one-less-piece-of-camera-gear-t/
Dai, I must say your avatar is good.
Well I bought the D5100 from Amazon (The electronics expo one) In other news, this video will give me nightmares:
Hope your camera arrives safely and quickly, and welcome to the Nikon club! Also that video is terrifying.

If it isn't anything like Canon hood prices ( stupid canon doesn't include hoods with non "L" lenses ), I might pick one up for my lenses with a slim UV filter on them.
Also that video is terrifying.
Am I wrong to find that video amusing but yet rather cruel? Annnnd, I miss Nikon :(

Also, while we're on the subject of horror stories, what's the worst any of you have ever damaged or nearly damaged a camera? Worst I've done was drop a body belonging to the school while changing lenses. About a meter drop onto solid concrete, I pretty much (calmly) freaked out. Luckily I was still holding the lens, and when I put it back together everything worked fine, but it was still nerve-racking.

I don't think my heart stopped beating faster than it should that day.
I was taking some pictures in the woods with my D70s, and it was raining a little so the camera was a bit slippy. It slipped out my hand and so I instantly shot my hands forward to try and catch it, but instead I ended up volleying it into the air. I just watched in horror as it span through the air and landed in a puddle on the stone path. I expected to hear the shatter of glass and plastic, but luckily there wasn't even a scratch. I think it landed on one of the bottom corners of the body which is like a rubbery plastic.
I rested my camera on top of this stone thing, taking some long exposure shots of the sky, and for some reason it decides to just fall off. Tried to make some quick move to pick it up but it hits the ground(dirt) anyway. Luckily it hit on the side of the body, saving my lens and not snapping off my sb-800 that was attached, and everything still worked. Either that or the one time i had my D80, and my uncles T1i on me, and i trip over this spike that was placed on the ground (it was dark). I twist and kinda land on something, but the cameras were ok.
My worst experience was placing my camera bag on the ground, with all my kit in it, and have it start rolling down towards the fucking river. I wasn't able to catch it but the Omnissiah smiled upon me and the bag stopped half a foot before the water.

the zipper pull of my camera bag caught on something in my car as I pulled it out, and my D7000 with its 18-105 tumbled to the parking lot, breaking the lens's mounting bits. I stuck my head back into the car and screamed "FUUUUCK" so hard that my dad heard me from inside the office, and his only rational explanation was that I was being attacked by zombies. Thankfully I have a 55-200 I rarely ever use- which actually took a fall back in 2009, head level shelf to concrete floor because some drunk tried setting their glass next to it (where I thought no one would bump it, go figure). The stabilizer on the 55-200 is borked, and I don't use it almost at all with the 18-105 around. Anyways, I took those lenses apart and swapped all of their fiddly bits so that it is now the 55-200 with the broken mount. Everything works perfect, no glass scratched or cracked, body of camera only suffered some tiny rock-dents near the battery cover thank FUCK in other news, was watching some digital rev and spied Kai and a camera man. Do they use DSLRs to film their stuff? I can't see it all that well but it kinda looks like it. [t]http://gyazo.com/945463aa08f5e5899df01b0c9ffce234.png[/t]
