That's how I roll in the cinema - buy standard tickets, sneak into the premier seats as the film starts
God I hate people that do that. I take full pleasure in ejecting you from my paid for seat.
God I hate people that do that. I take full pleasure in ejecting you from my paid for seat.
The seat is normally empty but if it turns out that it was someone's seat then we just move and pretend like our seat was in the row above/below
Normally they check your ticket around here.
Normally they check your ticket around here.
Ah, they check our tickets as we go into the cinema room and then we're free to sit wherever, no security or anything
Anyone know a place where I could get an ND filter cheaply?
[editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
That or is this any good?
[editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
Wow I forgot a link, nevermind because apparently the polaroid one is shit.

unless it's a weekend, the theater by me literally has NOTHING stopping you. There's the ticket booth in the center of the front room, and doors on either side. If they're ticketing on the weekend or during prime evening hours, they funnel you to a guy who rips your tickets before you can get to concessions and whatnot, but otherwise it's just open. You can literally walk in and waltz to whatever movie you want without seeing a single employee.
I usually just take this opportunity to hit the arcade inside, though. Movies aren't all too interesting as of late.
only downside to the arcade is that all I play is DDR, and the popcorn dust in the air KILLS me after a short while

just curious, what lenses do all of you guys most commonly use? i have a kit 18-55 and then a portrait 80-155, but i use the kit a lot more. Im real new to photography though, so what lenses do you guys most commonly use, and for what kind of picture?

I steal DDR playtime from kids who paid $8 a piece to hang out in the arcade and pay money for the machine anyways
at 75 cents instead of the usual dollar per round, it'd take 32 rounds to make the money worth it for a single trip, man D:

I know what you're asking.
You're looking for a fast 50mm prime lens. Hopefully that sentence contains at least two terms you’re unfamiliar with, so let me fill you in; Fast refers to having a large aperture. Generally f/2.0 and larger. The smaller the aperture number, the larger it is physically. A prime lens is a lens with a fixed focal length, meaning it does not zoom in or out. This is what allows it to have a large aperture and produces a higher quality image at the cost of having the inconvenience of no 'zoom' - that makes you a better photographer anyway.
One of the catches to this 'cure all' lens is that you have to calculate in the crop factor of your DSLR. For Canon, it's 1.6x. That means a 50mm lens will look like ~80mm would on a fullframe or 35mm SLR. That's a little restrictive for general purposes. The solution to this is to buy a fast wider lens. You do have to pay a premium there though, it's about $350 for the Canon 35mm f/2.0
The cheapness of the $100 Canon 50mm 1.8 completely negates that downside of having a cropped sensor. It doesn't fix the problem, but it's so cheap, who cares? I highly recommend this lens to anyone with any level of interest in photography.
I'm going to an airshow tomorrow, does anyone have tips for taking pictures of airplanes?
They're fast.
Does anyone know if Walgreens develop 110 film?
I'm going to an airshow tomorrow, does anyone have tips for taking pictures of airplanes?
You should try to do like those panned shots where you follow one plane in focus and everything else is in motion blur
planes may be going too fast though so they'll have to be quite far away
Panning shots's are a tad hard, heh. Takes some practice.
But really with getting planes, big aperture and high speed shutter is what i'd go with.
Telephoto lenses are good too, i usually am at 200mm when i use my 18-200.
(forcing me to shoot < f/5.6)

that was very helpful, thanks! too bad i use a nikon :v
They're fast.
I will keep that in mind, I was unaware of this fact!
but seriously, there will be a lot of cool old planes on the ground, as well as flying in the air. the one annoying thing is that they're all in such a touristy not interesting area.
[editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
and I don't have a telephoto lens so that sucks, but we have relatively close seats to the runway
that was very helpful, thanks! too bad i use a nikon :v
Nikkor 50mm 1.8D and the 35mm1.8G shall be what you are looking for. Have to manually focus the 50, but for the price vs the quality you have no room to complain. If you WANT to complain, there's a 50mm 1.8G for another hundred or so more dollars.
Do you guys use AF? I seem to never use it. I always use manual. I probably should use it so I get the best focus, but I always forget it's there!
I AF then prod at the focus a little if need be. Need to up my glasses prescription before I trust visually focusing on anything without a split-focus, heh

I used to live there in the Mission District, I miss it.
Also, I too just got home from a flight. I'll probably be uploading some of the pics I took to the Creative Photo thread once I catch up on reading it.

I have a 18-55 kit lens and a 35mm 1.8 lens. I use the 35mm most because I recently got it and I love the DOF.
Going to photo the protests in Tel Aviv later this week with my whole class, should be interesting.

I usually use my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 , but I also use my Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 which helps when i want a wide shot or a tele shot.
JUST GOT MY INTERNET BACK!
My mom busted me smoking herb, and of course she went mad. She has made the last week a complete hell, but now she is finally starting to chill.

the bopie float has some competition
Oregano or Italian mixed?
[editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
Also those floats look way more natural than bopies (just sayin)
[editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
Also bonus points for a pretty asian woman being the subject.
They look more natural because she actually jumps.
