Goddang it I need to get my monitor calibrated. Gonna have to ask a couple friends if they have a calibration tool, doing it by eye isn't working well for me. The Lightroom UI looks different on my desktop than it did on my laptop, and some of my photos look a little warmer - can't tell which is better calibrated.
was browsing the 500px website IT BEGINS
Insincere flattery is the most irritating manifestation of 'That Guy' [editline]august 13[/editline]
Also those floats look way more natural than bopies (just sayin)
Well of course, it's the focus of her work and she has an entire gallery of it. Also as Larp said,
"Sometimes I need to jump over 100 times to get a right shot" She does this in front of her camera, mounted on a tripod, and continues to do so until she achieves that perfect, natural-looking "levitation."

I honestly think that it was more like one of those flickr award posts, you just can't post sparkly trophy gifs.
That's what those things are, insincere flattery. It's supposed to make the person you're spamming feel special so they go and look at your stuff + give you attention/stats etc. [editline]august 13[/editline] The sad part is that it works, especially on older people.
ah, I was thinking of insincere like they're saying it to be sarcastic

I've decided to stop smoking, atleast until I get my own place.
So Guys, I want to learn to do Photography, Camera wise, No problem. There is a 10D and a 5D MK1 lying about in this house, Problem is, My Dad doesn't trust me enough to let me anywhere near them. There is a shit ton of film camera's about but I don't know fuck all about them. Besides, Film is expensive. So, I want to learn how without paying much due to the fact I have no money at all. So what should I do? I though to steal the Camera Manuals and read them through so I get the idea how to use them and to grips with the terminology, I know a few things, like I know that the lenses my Dad has are A Macro for close ups, Zoom for, well Zoom shots and a All purpose one, But I still want to learn enough for him to trust me, Where should I start?

Not to be rude or anything but come on dude you're on the internet http://www.google.com You already got the equipment, now search for the basics and then convince your dad that you know your shit and you can handle his gear. (I suggest you search ''photography basics, iso, shutter speed, aperture'', from then you'll find more terms you won't understand. Google them, and so on. [editline]13th August 2011[/editline]
In all honesty if you don't want to spend much and learn lots you need to use film.
Also what's the point? He just said he has no money, but there are two perfectly good Digital cameras in his house, he could just show his dad he learned to take care of them and how to use them.
I can understand where B-hazard is coming from. Film SLR cameras a substantially cheaper than a newer DSLR, but there's the cost of film and if you want to develop yourself that's another thing to factor in. The great thing about film though is it teaches patience and in my opinion helps you train your eye to catch things you normally wouldn't because you can't afford to just snap 500 photos and pick the top 20 you like best as you can with Digital cameras. I've never shot film though, so I really don't have room to talk. I have a ton of SLR film cameras that need some general maintenance which I might look into here in the future. In my opinion though, start small with something like a film or cheap Point and Shoot to train your eye while you save for a Digital SLR. For a few years I walked about practicing composition and observing lighting with a decent Fujifilm Finepix s1000 and it did just fine with a small 1gb SD Card. So like with film I had limited space to shoot with. But everyone is to their own, the final decision is always yours to make.
Did you read his post? He doesn't need to spend on anything, he just needs a good talk with his father and some self discipline. He doesn't have to be restrained by any rules when he gets a camera and goes out to shoot whatever he thinks looks pretty. After he goes shooting we can just see what he did and tell him how to improve.
I took around 1000 shots of planes. I'm just a little annoyed because the sky was completely white for most of the day, so I bet most of the shots will be pretty boring. also I don't have a very long lens [editline]14th August 2011[/editline] I'm more looking forward to the video i took.

I just left my personal opinion on some of the better ways to really start building talent with this hobby. You can give someone the best and most expensive cameras and equipment, but generally without the good foundation of somewhere basic you won't be able to improve as well as you may if your start small and work up.
Narrowed my search down to 3 cameras. 1.) Pentax ME Super 2.) Olympus OM-1 (Any other's you think would be better? OM 10?) 3.) Canon AE-1 And I think I'll be looking for one with a 50mm. Any reasons why I should buy one over the other? Or even other suggestions? I've never owned an SLR but will be using it in school and developing the photos myself in a darkroom.
Replace the Pentax ME with an MX and either that or the Olympus would be da best of da best. I just wish the Olympus lenses could be easier to use with modern cameras.
About that, how compatible are most newer lens (dslr) compatible with slr cameras?
Assuming you mean the SLR systems you're looking at... Well, currently only Pentax produces lenses with the same mount. I like them a lot for that. The Canon FD lenses are kinda useless for modern DSLRs, but you can still adapt them to mirrorless cameras. Eh. The Olympus ones can be adapted to mirrorless systems and Olympus and Canon DSLRs.

My vote for the Pentax, they still use the same mount today on modern pentaxes
My vote for the Pentax, they still use the same mount today on modern pentaxes
Heh, you vote for the Pentax now... But when it comes time for him to purchase a DSLR you will say that it's the canon way or no way. (making your point irrelevant)

Tl;dr if Cueball buys a product and likes it he will preach about it and buy nothing else.
Tl;dr if Cueball buys a product and likes it he will preach about it and buy nothing else.
This isn't exclusive to Cueball though.
Tl;dr if Cueball buys a product and likes it he will preach about it and buy nothing else.
I'm pretty sure everyone does that to an extent - if they had a good experience with a product then it's logical that they'd recommend it over others. Nobody has tried every product out there so everyone's opinion is slightly biased
whoops, wrong thread. Yeah, everyone has that kinda bias but sometimes it's way out of line.
Olympus is the best option IMO.
the OM-1? And what if I were to buy a 50mm 1.8 for my canon 60d, would it be compatible with any of the slr's I mentioned? Or and available adapter? I have many more questions to ask about different things. But I'll keep you guys occupied one question at a time.
Have you ever flooded your bathroom while doing water shots? Just wondering.. €dit: After ~100 shots I realized that my feet were getting wet :C
I always do mine in the kitchen, never flooded that :v:
Just looked at my photo folders: I bet 90% of this is crap I could delete right now.
