It's harder to meter light by eye than you think.
But yes, you do start look out for opportunities with light and such. I'll point out how neat a scene looks and get blank stares back from whoever I'm with.

is the dodge/burn tool in photoshop better to use than in lightroom? in lightroom it undoes the previous adjustments when i switch to anther type of brush, maybe im just doing it incorrectly
There's a little button in there somewhere that says "New" and next to it says "Edit". Click on "New" to make a new stroke and brush type.
Please can we have a rule where you can only post a 'yourname's photography' thread if actually have a portfolio instead of a few photos you took over the past few days with a point and shoot.

By no means I am saying it is bad to make a thread, [i]but[/i] generally it's best to only make threads [i]that are specifically about your entire portfolio[/i] after you have posted regularly in the creative photography thread.

When someone new to the section makes their first thread, they read the rules and they make a thread that fits within those rules.

if people have a problem with the threads then I think they should just leave them alone and let them drop to the bottom, it's not like they're taking up valuable thread space in the photography section, because like I said, the megathreads here cover everything so it's rare that people make new threads apart from 'look at my photos'
Well, in between this chatter today, I came up with an interesting subject for a photo.

I don't want to stir things back up, but the reason there is an issue is because of DIFTOW's (and several other newcomers') [url=http://i.imgur.com/t8h0J.jpg]attitude.[/url]
He came in here acting like he is entitled to social (as far as that goes online) acceptance because he can justify his actions through following the ~rules~ to the word. The rules aren't a bible to getting along with us, they just keep you from getting banned. He simply doesn't have the understanding of our social structure, nor the photographic experience, to throw his weight around like he does. I'm open to new people, but not when they suffer from being [url=http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1092039-An-ode-to-That-guy]'That Guy'.[/url] The only real advice I can give to DIFTOW is to stop posting and observe how we are here, along with taking a good long ponder about how he conducts himself.
wow, I thought the worst of this debate was over after I brought it up yesterday. for my opinion, I think that totally contentless posts should be deleted/banned, but if It's just a post filled with someone acting self-entitled then I think the better option is to ignore the thread and pet it sink to the bottom.
