oh shit it would be wide as fuck on the e mount http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818650-REG/Rokinon_FE8M_NEX_8mm_Ultra_Wide_Angle.html oooooooooooooo it is nice but it's expensive
Thinking of wishing myself a Canon EF 50/1,4 USM for Christmas. Is that a recommended lens to go from 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 EF-S Zoom Lens? Some people told me that it's the very first lens you should get after your standard one that comes with your camera, but of course it depends on what you want to do. I know that the lower the minimum aperture the more light you get. But I was wondering if it's nice in image quality and such.
that lens kicks ass buy the shit out of it bopie uses it in most of his photos i'm pretty sure, but it's a nice solid wide sharp awesome as fuck lens. I think it tends to back focus mildly though
Mooe94, do you have a APS-C camera? (1.6 or 1.5 crop)? If so I'd suggest looking at the Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC instead. Bopie uses a full frame camera, which means his 50mm lens is effectively 50mm. On an APS-C camera it would be equivalent to a 75-80mm lens, depending on what camera. The 30mm would be equivalent to 45-48mm. 50mm on a crop is a bit tight for a standard lens, trust me, I made that mistake.

(CMOS APS-C 22.3 × 14.9 mm (1.6x conversion factor)) But I can't find that lens anywhere, so it's not a viable option I'm afraid :/
yeah it is what country?

Why the fuck wasn't that listed on my search engine-thingy... Anyway, thanks! So, exactly why should I get this one instead of the Canon one? I am still a bit new to photography, especially when it comes to lenses.
Well, the canon one is 50mm, which is a much tighter zoom. On your camera, 50mm is tighter than on a full frame camera like for instance the 5D MKII 30mm is much closer to what you get with a 50mm lens on a full frame camera, and is much better for general use.
Yes.
Is it still worth it when the lens is about 400-500SEK more expensive? That's about 55-70$. [editline]8th October 2011[/editline] Canon 50mm: $452 vs Sigma 30mm: 555$ (for now, the price might change before Christmas is over)

I'd say it's worth it, I got a Sigma 50mm f1.4 on an APS-C camera myself, and I'm regretting not getting the 30mm instead. Of course it's up to you, but I think a 30mm field of view is much more useful for an APS-C camera. Keep in mind though, if you are planning on upgrading to a full frame camera any time soon, the 30mm won't work. (It's designed to only work with APS-C cameras).

you have the kit lens right? Just see what you like the settings better at, at 30mm or 50mm. I shoot with 50mm and 55mm on my APS-C camera and they are a bit tight, but you get less in focus because it's tighter
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I've snapped some photos I like quite a lot with my 50mm But when I'm using my Pentax ME Super with it's 50mm lens (The ME Super is a full frame film camera), the field of view is just so much more enjoyable to work with.
30mm on a crop sensor is great.

I can go from 18mm to 55mm, so I should compare 30mm and 50mm?
yeah! do that exactly. And then just go around for a day and see which one you like shooting with better.
Thanks for the tip! I read around a bit and I heard that the Sigma is the preferred one due to it being more sharp as well. Is that true? [editline]8th October 2011[/editline] I have an additional question: I have quite a few analog lenses laying around that are not compatible with my 550D, but could you perhaps convert them somehow so they fit, should I just sell them?
