Looking forward to it mate.

Any if you guys seen this thread? Or care to join in the debate with some slightly more educated responses than a lot of the shit there?

A photo of Andy Gursky's has just been sold for over $4 million, beating the previous world record for the most expensive photograph.

I don't know. I think it's rather good.
composition is great, it's just a boring picture. nothing wrong with it, but nothing worth 4.86 million.

Oh, certainly not.
But... Once you ask the question 'What is money worth'? Then you can begin to understand the processes behind why some people pay these prices for art, or anything really.

I think it's great he sees great compositional beauty in what most people never notice or think is not special.
It's a good photograph, but you're paying the millions for owning the work of someone so famous, not because of the picture.

Very true for me.

So many youtube videos shot on video DSLRs with way too much black and contrast, usually with weird green toning.
Kinda ruins a good video sometimes.
oh i don't have google plus, too bad for me ;(

surprise, you're in the matrix and everything you know is a lie :D
just swabbed my sensor, i think that makes like the tenth time i've done it in the last year and a half?
my lens i have on now literally has an aperture that closes completely, and i made it to where light just BARELY comes in and absolutely no dust at all on the sensor
success!

How do you properly swab a sensor?
well this is what i do
i get sensor swab things mine are opteka.
then i literally just go back and forth until it looks like the dust is gone. if there's a scary piece of dust don't be afraid to rub it until it goes away. it won't damage your sensor.
i have had grease, dirt, and spit on my sensor, and these swabs got it out with literally no marks on my sensor. i can post the picture of what it was like one time, and the picture of it with a pinhole (which would show literally all dust on the sensor)

is it even considered a "multiple exposure HDR" when you use only one raw file and change exposure with the photoshop RAW editor? I always feel mad when I read "Five exposure HDR" followed by ""single RAW" sometimes it even looks worse than tonemapping a single jpg

Don't see how it could be multiple exposures if there's only one exposure and RAW file. Definitely one of those things that'd peeve me too.

oh since you posted a gif i'll go into the story on that one. i was trying to take pictures of bunny rabbits but the zoom lens i had was f4.5, and there was HARDCORE dust on my sensor. like i don't even know how it happened
so naturally i panicked
i had a couple swabs left from this ebay order and i tried them, didn't work at all. they had no moisture on them like advertised. so naturally i start hardcore PANICKING and trying crazy stuff no man should try. to notice their was no moisture on them i put it on my face, but then tried swabbing. but being a greasy teenager obviously this made the thing greasy and got grease all over it. then i really started panicking. so i got some solution and put it on a different swab, and it just spread it around. spit dissolves dust apparently so i tried that, and nope made things worse. but how bad?
here's a picture not even stopped down past 5.6
http://i.imgur.com/7tIBR.jpg
yeah it was god awful, but i finally took the hint to not mess with it any more. ordered some opteka sensor swabs, and now it's much better.
http://i.imgur.com/SfoOr.jpg
that's with a pinhole. can't see it at all at f22, but i never stop past f8 anyways.
so you see folks, sensors can withstand a lot
Applying for Cargo Collective. I might be a little early on where I am photographically for this, but I figure it can't hurt to try, plus even if I get rejected, it will get me warmed up for applying and sending portfolios to schools.
Anyway, I need to whip up a quick portfolio to send them a link to. I thought about using 500px, but I like the ~design~ freedom with tumblr. It probably won't be too impressive when they see a tumblr URL, but I guess it would show at least some experience/initiative with HTML and design sense, which is what they are probably looking for, too. I have an established theme spread out between my (now) four blogs, so I've had awhile to streamline it some.

Posting here because I know at least a few of you guys have experience with this kinda thing, and was wondering if anyone has any criticisms or suggestions or whatever - both in content and layout.
I know this isn't really fun or interesting, so thanks in advance for anyone that at least looks at it.
if anyone is going to get that position from this forum, it's you dude. i'm not very html inclined otherwise i'd help ;(

yes it is

I'd say it's a little too minimalistic for a portfolio.
As for the not to professional tumblr-url-look check out domain.com - you can get .com domains for $2.99 today.

Thanks for the crit! On the minimalism though, I'm trying be what they would want in a 'content provider'. I want to appeal to whoever is reviewing my portfolio.
http://cargocollective.com/showcase
Obviously, I don't need to be making showcase level stuff (I'm not applying for a job there, heh) I just need to show that I can fit in with, and understand the aesthetic of their design templates.

Eh. Went for it.
Application received. You should hear from us in 24 to 48 hours.
ahhhhh I'm flipping my shit right now.
So I open my D90, and I accidentally pull on the lens locking arm (basically I'm moving about in there with my finger and push hard on it. Not super significantly, but now I notice my lenses are hard to put on and take off. Mechanism still works since the lenses are locking into place, but I'm freaking out right now. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.
booked my flights to Melbourne! gonna experience some culture from the 22nd of this month untl the 7th of December! so pumped.
Don't you just hate when you've just gotten a new camera, and the weather is boring as hell?
It feels like photographing a grey canvas.
I am waiting for the snow, I was gonna snap some pictures when I went fishing with my friend the other day but the weather was just sad.
