Feeling a little moist.
I spent my money on travelling, the D800 is so close yet so far.

Going back to what I was saying earlier, if the D800 had 36 MP, the pixel density would be the same as the D7000.
Also, the detail would be limited by the lens more, at 36MP.
I was gonna go shoot a star-trail photo down on the point below my house last-night. Had all my gear set, and was just focusing when Mr. Pissed-ass Raccoon shows up snarling and gnarling, I've never packed up my gear faster. That's been the only clear night I've been free for weeks.
Good news is that I've got a scanner so I can hopeful do more film shots, the thing can even scan right to Flickr, or print straight from it.

wanna hook up
Could a self-learned photographer ever get a job at a company? Or would you need something on paper?
Of course you can, but it's harder to get that initial foot in the door without a qualification. Once you're able to speak to somebody though, if you've got a good portfolio which shows technical ability and 'talent' then of course it's possible.

Stuff like this is really good to know.
Especially if my studies magically fuck them selves up and I can't find a job (I've had such shit luck lately that it wouldn't surprise me).
Though I must admit, being a photographer for NatGeo has been a dream for me since I was like 12
Man those guys and gals must have the most beautiful and interesting job on earth. I'd sell my soul for a job like that.

I mean imagine going to see this on a normal workday

I think being a nat geo photographer is the dream of many, many, many, many a boy - including myself at various times.
in regards to the D800, a couple minutes playing with the levels to bring out color cast, it seems that it's less likely a photoshop than a lot of people are saying. Note the particular greenish lighting, from the right, and how it's seen affecting all elements of the camera, along with the blue/white light coming in from the left.

My analysis is that it's in an office type space on display during a private release party, with harsh fluorescent lighting coming down from most directions, and a single display lamp above this model and presumably some other items to be released, probably point and click cameras or some small gadgets that weren't quite as noteworthy as the 800.
The photo was taken of it whilst it sat on a table/display with considerably low DOF and without flash, given the nose of the pentaprism head is visibly out of focus, and the battery grip is defocused. Elements from the display screen to the bottom of the body cap are focused in a plane, and the shutter button and scroll wheel are out of focus due to being slightly forward. This would mean it was taken with an SLR, probably with a fast 50mm on it, which I think would be hard to smuggle around and sneak a picture so high profile as this. The picture seems fishy to me for THAT reason, if anything. The only thing that doesn't say this was an intended ruse is the terrible cropping job that was done on it, it looks like they erased the background by hand with a mouse at points.
Maybe he held the camera around his neck or something and sprayed and prayed, then cropped it.
woo Melbourne

this is going to be home for the next two weeks!
Would any of the FP'ers in the Chicago area like to meet up sometime this week?
There should be an Edinburgh photo meetup and walk around somewhere photogenic.
the dof doesn't even follow any sort of pattern in that d800 picture
the top of the battery grip is out of focus, while the fromt part isn't
and then the bottom left part of the camera is out of focus, even though it's on the same plane as a bunch of the other parts that are in focus
It's k guys,my analysis concludes they used a tilt shift.
We're all good
Gaboer to the rescue
Does lightroom from time to time start to hog all your fucking RAM and never release it resulting in the worst lag possible? It does for me. I need more RAM, damn it. Or maybe I need less pictures in my library. Hmm.

Hell, I'd just love to tag along with a group of NatGeo photographers. Or even BBC Nature guys. They always get the craziest camera angles of the smallest thing. It's always perfect. It must take incredible patience. Stuff like little bugs and lizards scurrying along trees and eating stuff. It always amazes me. I remember hearing for one of those shows, they had to chase a pod of whales for 6 days before they got the shot they were looking for.
