Dropped one of my lenses this morning, the filter smashed, but the front element and rest of the lens is perfectly fine. But the filter thread on the lens is cracked and now I can't get the remains of the filter off Don't even want to imagine what would have happened if I wasn't using a filter.
would anyone be interested in a London meet up? Also lucky with that filter man, and H4Z3Y I'm so jealous of you right now.
would anyone be interested in a London meet up? Also lucky with that filter man, and H4Z3Y I'm so jealous of you right now.
I would dude. It'd have to be planned quite far in advance if I was to attend though.

Maybe make a thread about it?
Would any of the FP'ers in the Chicago area like to meet up sometime this week?
I'm gonna be in kentucky as of tonight, then I come back saturday just so I can drive up to my girlfriend's near madison til sunday after this past weekend of driving to Eau Claire, this'll rack up my total driving over the course of seven days to nearly 2,400 miles, at least 1,000 of which will be done during the thanksgiving rush days :suicide: SO, how 'bout next week?

thinking of taking my camera + tripod to school, climbing the hill next to the school (which looks like this during the day and like that at night) and catching the sunset, what do you think?
Not worth it.
was thinking that, but it looked pretty fucking cool today
would anyone be interested in a London meet up? I don't post here much but I've been lurking since early this year, I live in South London and would definitely be up for a meetup
Looking to doing more cinematography like this with my Canon 550D but I'm not really sure what lens I should get for it. Any suggestions?
30mm 1.4 or 50mm 1.8

Any suggestions?
I think you should focus more on getting your focus proper, I'm noticing a handful of the scenes are soft and it's hurting my eyes a bit. It'd be excusable if there was an element in focus and it helped give a sense of depth, but it's just an entirely blurry scene when it hits. Few questions to answer before you think about upgrading a lens when you're aiming for more of this cinematography: -Are you using a tripod, or holding the camera steady with the aid of nearby things like a fire hydrant or a handrail? I'm noticing some visible shake here and there, and many looow angles. If you don't have a tripod, get one. If you DO have a tripod, consider weighing it down a little to avoid vibration, and removing your camera's strap so wind doesn't flap that around and pull on stuff a little. -what are you aiming for as far as cinematography in particular? Focus is a major issue, so if you do upgrade your lens try and aim for one with focal marks so you know where it's looking without having to sit and diddle with the viewfinder -getting a wider aperture is nice and all, but given you're in daylight most of the time it's going to be hard to keep it fully open without blowing out your scene. Neutral Density filters help with that if it's what you're looking for but they cost a pretty penny all by themselves. A polarizing lens helps a little though. consider playing with focus mid-scene if you're using wider apertures, so you can essentially turn one location into two different scenes without having to change video clips. It's a cool effect when done right, and adds some depth to the video. [editline]22nd November 2011[/editline]
the dof doesn't even follow any sort of pattern in that d800 picture the top of the battery grip is out of focus, while the fromt part isn't and then the bottom left part of the camera is out of focus, even though it's on the same plane as a bunch of the other parts that are in focus
the line represents the sharpest focus along the camera, DOF getting progressively thicker the farther away from this line (on the Z axis, aka towards/away from your view) a particular part is. Remember, we're looking at the camera at a slightly downward angle. I think this is a perfectly reasonable plane of focus, being a flat conceptual plane slicing through the subject, perpendicular to the capturing camera. Given the heavy DOF, it has to be like a 1.8 or even a 1.4 lens taking the picture from pretty close. [editline]e[/editline] zigzag'd all the stuff that's equally in focus because it's co-planar [t]http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/73/screenshot2011112212382.png[/t]
Help, me, guys: I have a small budget, which one would be the better choice: a Canon T3 or a Nikon D3000 / D3100? [editline]23rd November 2011[/editline] zero experience with DSLRs, mind you
Personally i'd choose a Canon T3 but that's personal preference.

Holy fucking god Finland in the winter must be the most boring enviroment. Cluttered colorless forests, grey sky that looks like someone used the "fill" tool, boring as shit buildings with buttugly architecture, snow covering everything, no people anywhere, town is small as shit and has no interesting subjects and last but not least, the sun is only up for about 5 hours. Finland is a photographers hell.
anyone have suggestions on how to frame a 20x14 inch print? ikea has a nice frame that is big enough and reasonably priced but none of there sizing options are ideal
