It's actually not so bad for video. My friend had to make a video for his intro to film class so he borrowed his friend's D7000, but had no idea how to use it. I just ended up switching between my D90 and his D7000 for the shoot. We filmed at night so I just slapped on my 50 1.8 and rocked with it. You just have to make sure to plant yourself well for each shot. If you are moving around though it is quite the bitch to keep steady but not impossible.
I also used the 50mm because ~depth of field~
someone paid me about £6-7 today to take his photo in george square
it was awesome
50mm f1.8 for video? nope
It's not stabilized and because it's a moderate tele lens(because of the cropfactor), it's very hard to keep a steady shot. Also the focusring is tiny so manual focussing with that lens is a bitch. For photography though, that lens is fucking great.
Any other recommendations?
Going to explore an abandoned insane asylum in the next few weeks. It was an old hospital, converted into an asylum, abandoned, and then used for SWAT training. Apparently there are still loads of spent shells and bullets lying around everywhere. Gonna be awesome.
Any other recommendations?
You could use a wide-angle lens which make vibrations less noticable or you could use a lens with built-in stabilization.
I personally like to use my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC for video.
It's not impossible to get steady shots with a lens like the 50mm, but it's a lot hard, especially if you are moving around.
Any other recommendations?
if it's on a heavy tripod you can get some decently stable shots.
I need some ideas for christmas. I need something to record audio with (zoom h1 or h2?), a new lens for, mainly, video (EF 50mm f/1.8?), a tripod, a camera bag and what else?
Having a fluid head for a tripod is quite good if you're doing video. I've never gotten as fluid movements on my cheapo tripod as I get on my Manfrotto.
I have a cheap ass tripod. :( but whatever it's been doing what I need it to do for like 7 years.

I've always wondered what a fluid head is and why they are so expensive
Also, not planning on doing handheld shots. I build a fig rig and will be building a steady cam glider thing.
HOLY FUCK IT CAN'T BE...

This + days out in London make me kinda wish I had a really good compact that wasn't trapped in a semi-awkward camera bag (in terms of opening and taking it out, don't like to keep people waiting). I do love the randomness of London. Spotted these chaps in the tube, got out to Camden Town markets and a friggin tank drives past. Going home a guy starts raving on the tube because he's blocked.

what happens when you read though the entire halo encyclopedia :v:

A fluid head is using a sort of fade in-fade out motion when moving the head around. Let's say you make a pan to the left and you've reached the point where you want to stop, the head will gradually decrease the momentum so it doesn't immediately stop but instead will slow down very nicely.
some guy added me as a contact on flickr and now he keeps posting grotesque tonemapped stuff like

Did some family portraits today, got $85. woot
I find it funny that an item that I purchased on ebay, shipped from Point Roberts, WA to Vancouver, BC is currently in New York, NY. For those who don't know, Point Roberts is about 30 km (20 mi) south of Vancouver. So strange that USPS processes their international mail on the other side of the continent.
For those wondering I got a timer intervalometer remote for my D3100.
Just sent back my brand new faulty 7D :( will get a new one in like 2 weeks god damn

when i put in a fully charged battery it would display on the top LCD as flashing empty, taking it out and putting it back in and the camera would turn on fine. A day later and it just flashes empty every time, and doesn't turn on. it sucks
Obvious question, did you try a different battery before sending the camera in?
Obvious question, did you try a different battery before sending the camera in?
I did, i also tried the original battery in a different camera. The different battery didn't work and the original battery worked in the different camera.
2 weeks huh? that's rough, especially after just getting your new 50.
2 weeks huh? that's rough, especially after just getting your new 50.
Well by the time i take it to the London shipping place (wednesday) and then they receive it and send me a new one it will probably be next thursday or friday that i get it back.
I know it sucks, i managed to get a few decent photos out of it before it stopped working though. I'll just have to stick with my SLR till then.
My girlfriend bought me an old Nikon for Christmas that came with 2 old film canisters. I haven't seen the camera yet, but she gave me one of the films. I finished the roll today. I've used expired film before but never one this old; it's from 2002. Anyone have any ideas on what sort of results I'll get? It's Fujicolour C200.

That's the spirit mate.
Has established that the person he likes likes him too. Bohan's time to shine is tomorrow!
have any of you heard of ash kingston. He's this 16 year old photographer who takes straight up portraits of his 14 year old friends who some of them look 12 and is super popular for it.
anyone who has ever touched tumblr.com knows about him, or has atleast seen his stuff.

nope D:
anyone who has ever touched tumblr.com knows about him, or has atleast seen his stuff.
Aha yeah, what do you think of his work?
have to give him respect for his age, and the interesting people he's connected to, but other than that it's just tumblr fodder. for how much he's revered, i'd have to say his stuff doesn't live up to the hype. but again, he's only 16.
enormous potential and much better than i could ever do.

that's probably my favorite of his.
