Our coach was bro as hell until we met the neighboring schools' team out on a trail one day during summer. Their team, which is twice the size of ours I should add, were all in their 5 cm² uniforms w/o the "shirts" with all literally the same tan. Meanwhile, our team was in a mismatch of random t-shirts and [B]NORMAL, NOT GAY, COMFORTABLE SHORTS[/B]. And this was just the start of it, but from then on I think it scared our coach into turning XC from fun+healthy to potentially dangerous (work out every day, potentially injure self slowly over time, but encouraged to build pain resistance at the same time) and competitive.
Our school is bad overall at one sport, and that sport happens to be the sport I'm a part of. Hell, our coach is by no means out of shape, but now that he's assigning a shitload of miles every day he has stopped running with us entirely.

I really enjoyed cross country for 3/4 years in highschool, but the coach for my senior year was very competitive and we had to run more miles before school had even started than at the end of the previous season. I quit since it wasn't fun anymore.
