Am I a bad person because I was facepalming while a fine arts major was bitching about how she'll never get a job after university? Like if you know it's a totally useless degree that to most employers would look only slightly better than a high school diploma, why would you do it? And why do universities even have fine arts? They should just stick to hard sciences, social sciences and some humanities.
Well yeah, you kind of are. You're basically saying that universities should outright remove all majors that don't pertain to sciences, and humanities. Ever consider that maybe people are really good at music, art, or any of the other art forms, and not good at sciences? Just because there isn't a big market for art, doesn't mean you should be forced to give up your life dream just because there's not a large demand. That's all kinds of fucked up. What if the situation were reversed? What if there was no demand for any science majors, and it was all art? Would you say then to remove everything but hard artistry majors? Of course not. Take a good lesson i learned from art. Before making a point, think of the situation in reverse, then decide whether or not it still feels valid to you. It's like with a drawing. You flip it over an axis, and all of a sudden you see a lot of your errors.
My finger fought a meat slicer today.....meat slicer won.
Well at least most of them realize they're fucking screwed once they graduate.
Some people work for more than the money, these people are known as artists.
Some people work for more than the money, these people are known as artists.
Why do you need to go to university to be an artist is what I want to know then. They go to school for four years and come out with a degree that gets them nothing but a job at Starbucks and crippling debt for the rest of their life.
Or you are completely fucking wrong. because my mom has a MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. And she spent years in the printing industry, stackin dat papper she got to manipulate photos, draw, and take photos. Kinda like her schooling entailed. Now shes a stay at home mom.

We have a lot of university students going into fine arts and coming out unable to find jobs. Hell, I know like 5 people doing fine arts degrees. Chances are only one of them will get a job.

There's a lot more to art than what you see on a crayon box. You're pretty ignorant on this sort of thing so you should probably stop talking before everybody gets angry at the stupidity that is breeding in your posts.
If we're going to have fine arts degrees though, at least put them in a separate school, away from people who want to actually do something intelligent.
If we're going to have fine arts degrees though, at least put them in a separate school, away from people who want to actually do something intelligent.
OH GOD WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THIS.
If we're going to have fine arts degrees though, at least put them in a separate school, away from people who want to actually do something intelligent.
You need to learn how to have a filter.
If we're going to have fine arts degrees though, at least put them in a separate school, away from people who want to actually do something intelligent.
not going to lie, Im going into arts, and youre being pretty fucking ignorant right now.
Apparently fine arts = stupid people. Picasso dragging his knuckles around the country side trying to chase carts no doubt.
If we're going to have fine arts degrees though, at least put them in a separate school, away from people who want to actually do something intelligent.
Before you go off insulting the fine arts it would be nice to know something about the fine arts. How much do you know about the fine arts?
"also lets try anal again. but with better lube and fingering me or me fingering myself" the best message you can receive on facebook
To be fair, I don't think he was saying he knew anything about fine arts in of itself. He was just saying that the job market for that kind of training isn't faring too well. Secondly I don't think he was insulting "the" fine arts, he was insulting fine arts students for putting themselves into economically disadvantageous positions.

...at least put them in a separate school, away from people who want to actually do something intelligent.
That seems pretty insulting to me. More importantly, if you don't know anything about a subject then what gives you the right to discuss its economic and social standings? I sure as hell know nothing about computer hardware infrastructure, business management (as of now), or quantum physics (to any reasonable level) so I don't go around talking about these subjects implications beyond themselves.
"also lets try anal again. but with better lube and fingering me or me fingering myself" the best message you can receive on facebook
fish that was a private convo between you and me...
oh well, it's Taep don't take it too seriously
oh well, it's Taep don't take it too seriously
Everything I say ever should be taken with a grain of salt. And yes, I was referring more to the shitty job market for someone with an arts degree and wondering why someone would want to put themselves into that situation and not insulting art itself. I still think it's pretty stupid that someone would need to have a degree in art to get an arts related job too.

So why would some musician spend years practicing, studying, and learning how to play, just so he can likely not get picked up by a label? What about all the metal bands you like? Metal is a very technical genre most of the time, and a lot of the really good musicians don't make a penny compared to what a lot of other people do. So why should any of your favorite small metal bands make music when they could get a different job easier that pays more? Points being that education makes you better at pretty much everything, art definitely included, and that there are reasons for people to follow a specific career besides a dollar value.
