Handguns and SBRs, which are easier to commit crimes with, are harder to get than long guns. Of course criminals don't follow the law so that doesn't really matter.

I got a Winchester 1897 in near relic condition for $75 with the intention of repairing it, but every last piece would need replacement excluding some of the external pieces. Another time we bought a very old pump action Savage .22 with an octagonal barrel from an old shooting gallery, and every time we take it to the range it gets terrible jams and once had two rounds fire at once, after that, it got retired from the range. It's been to the gunsmith plenty of times as well. On the other hand, we get amazing deals on the local Craigslist that make up for it, like those deactivated machine guns I told you guys about, and we have the 1919 with no money into it, because we made our money back on the Bren and the B.A.R. We also got a Springfield 50-70 rolling block buffalo gun for $200 and it's a great shooter and sees plenty of use. It's a gamble with craigslist guns, and I learn more and more every gun I purchase.
