Did you guys all head out at once in one giant wagon train of sailboats?
No, it was spread out over the course of about 4 months.
Yeah, I've been browsing that site and wondering exactly how lavish a boat I would need. I've decided: extremely lavish. I want one of those double-hulled wide boats with gigantic party decks.
Let's start a gold member yachting club.
I actually know 5 boats as friends in the area I'm in, but there are probably 50 boats doing this.
Your friends are BOATS!? Woah Also, my dad sails Tartan Ten sailboats in races across Lake Michigan. I can bet that he would love to do something like this. How much physical labor is involved with your ship? Or are all of the systems electronic and therefore very little? [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
Let's start a gold member yachting club.
I'll be the referee on this one.

After seeing the conditions on a Tartan Ten for the Mackinac race, it seems like it would be impossible with two people. The Mackinac race has ~6 person crews on a 10 meter boat getting very little sleep.

My mom helps out occasionally and my lil bro is too dumb to do anything right. But it's possible to crew my boat single-handed, the way it's set up.
So is your trip finished? or where does your trip end

Just recording coordinates every now and then, logging them, then plotting them into google earth?
So is your trip finished? or where does your trip end
It's not even close to finished, we plan on exploring a little more of the Tuamotus and then moving on to Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc. Eventually we will make our way back north to Hawaii, and then from there back home to San Fransisco. We hope to be home before September/August. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
John here, representing. Nah, but question. I got lazy and stopped doing it after 10 days. :v:
Where in Hawaii are you going to hit and when?
Nobody knows, we haven't decided yet. When we arrive there is unknown as well.
Doesn't this sound more like a Reddit thing?
Hey BDA I found us a boat, It's a bit of a fixer but it's got character! Only 13 thousand dollars, too! http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/14438
Sorry if this sounds stupid but how are you talking to us right now? Do you have a long ass Ethernet cable connected to the boat or what?

Oh sweet jesus let's get this bad boy. I'm only 30min away from it too. Wish I had the 50grand for it. We need to get a jolly roger for it. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] That's actually really nice for 50,000. I'd buy it.
I'm getting a wifi signal from the town on shore.
I find that funny.
Hey BDA I found us a boat, It's a bit of a fixer but it's got character! Only 13 hundred dollars, too! http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/14438
For $13000 a few goldies could pitch in and help fix her up, get her seaworthy. She'd be a pretty prize for any dedicated sailor. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] Or a few bored goldmembers who actually want to sail the high seas. I am a certified pirate. I know enough about boats, I could actually help out. edit again: $14000, 55' yacht. Worth it. Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?
Since boats have to be maintaned every year, they actually go up in price as they get older. At least, the ones that are maintaned do.
What type of wood was the boat made from?
I personally sail 420's. Small boat but fun.
Seeing as how you've been a sailor for so long, have you ever had the fear of the boat sinking and/or being stranded in the ocean?
I envy you, I hope some day I can do something like this. I guess I can just join the Gold member expedition. I have also looked at maps and wanted to explore the uninhabited islands.
I'll join this GM expedition if I can. But first, I'll have to swim through the Atlantic-ocean, since I can't afford a plane ticket to the USA.
Wow, OP is cool. :buddy: [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] snipped my question, was already answered.
