I found somebody who can teach me how to sail. I was out riding near the lake today when I noticed a bunch of sailboats gathering near the other side. I road out, turns out there's a small sailing club that meets every Sunday and Wednesday. I started talking to some folks, and somebody said he'd show me the ropes if I came out next Wednesday. This is pretty radical. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline]. Whoops, accidentally clicked 'Close Thread.' My bad.
Congrats! Good luck BDA, I hope you have fun!
Hey OP did you take pictures?
Things like this thread and various pirate related movies have inspired me to become a millionaire for the sole purpose of purchasing a Spanish galleon to outfit with speakers and blast the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song whilst sailing around. That would be the life.
I'd be too afraid of disaster to do a trip like that. The Pacific is a big place.
If we're going to do this I think we should start with a gold member canoe trip and gradually move up
I'm on board! ... heh. On board.
We should instead just build an amphibious vehicle each and drive out to sea like champions!
I'd be too afraid of disaster to do a trip like that. The Pacific is a big place.
That's why you load yourself up with emergency devices, rafts and satellite phones n shit.
Whoops, accidentally clicked 'Close Thread.' My bad.
NO MORE POSTING ABOUT SAILING UNTIL I CAN POST ABOUT SAILING
I'm seriously considering going in on a 30' boat with a friend and sailing down to South America for a couple weeks, maybe more. There's a TON of 25' cruisers on a local website from 5k to 10k. And I live in an area that's known for fishing so I wouldn't have an issue finding someone to show me the ropes. [editline]14th June 2011[/editline] Also OP, do you have any shots of the interior of the boat you're using?
Does not seem like there is much to ask..
Agh, this sounds fun. I would really love to get to do this. :saddowns:
Why do people still make these threads? Not to be rude, but no one gives a fuck. (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Big Dumb American))
Why do people still make these threads? Not to be rude, but no one gives a fuck.
Well apparently you're fucking wrong because this thread hit 7 pages in a few days, there were a tonne of question asked, and there was a lot of enthusiasm at the prospect of people undertaking similar scale journeys themselves. I don't think you quite grasp the concept of 'not giving a fuck'.
I've always wanted to sail the sea. But I heard people with short-sightedness or long-sightedness can't get a boating license. At least, thats what they told me went I went to a school that teaches people to sail/drive a cruise ship and container ships.
wiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllllllllsssssssssssssoooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do people still make these threads? Not to be rude, but no one gives a fuck.
I give a fuck, Big Dumb American gives a huge fuck, Just because you don't give a fuck doesn't mean everyone doesn't give a fuck. :frog:
To those contemplating buying a boat (I've seen a few) if serious I suggest learning the ropes on someone else boat and learn a bit more. Else you'll buy yourself a boat with core rot and your mast will fall off mid sail :v:
Why do people still make these threads? Not to be rude, but no one gives a fuck.
Speak for yourself. And what do you mean by "these threads"? The OP crossed the South Pacific, there's hardly a surplus of similar threads.
I'm typing this as we leave the anchorage I was posting from. See you in Tahiti facepunch!
Did you see any young boys float by with a tiger in their lifeboat?
I loved that book!
I'm typing this as we leave the anchorage I was posting from. See you in Tahiti facepunch!
Safe sailing, and good luck on your future endeavors!
Good luck, Cow! I hope to hear more from you soon! Be sure to update us on your trip's progress once you reach the next port!
The fuck. I want to do cool shit like this wtf
How much of the time were you bored, be honest.
I'm typing this as we leave the anchorage I was posting from. See you in Tahiti facepunch!
Wow sailing all the way from Anchorage to Tahiti that sounds hard just kidding I know what you mean
I texted my friend today since I probably won't see him until friday and said "Hey, you ever consider sailing a 25'-30' boat down to South America?" he replied with "Yes, why?" to which I said "Because we should probably do it" his response was simply "lol, i'm going back to bed". The planning stage has begun.
