Best of luck everyone, remember the cynaide is on the right of your theater chair and an loaded honor pistol on the right aswell, on the left is soft drink and popcorn.
I'd be fucking pissed if this passes.
Best of luck everyone, remember the cynaide is on the right of your theater chair and an loaded honor pistol on the right aswell, on the left is soft drink and popcorn.
I only have an empty gatorade bottle on my left and a plate with an empty pop-tart wrapper on my right. No quick way out it seems :v:
Even in the (unlikely) event this passes, it won't affect Europe or anything outside of the US, right? If so, I have some room in my backyard, a couple of spare tents and a decent wi-fi connection if you want to pass by from some free Internets.

WHAT WILL YOUR RATES BE? :v:
A lot of memes based on this getting spread around. http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/35i84l/ [editline]16th December 2011[/editline] I'll add that to the OP. Nevermind, guy started streaming Dragon Ball Z. WTF?
They're at the break over there in the USA ...right?

What were you expecting? The bill doesn't pass today. That's not for a while. Today is markup day, where they go in and change things. It'll go past a review by the Supreme Court for infringements on the Constitution/BoR, and then go back for changes. After that, it's house, senate, and finally presidential veto. I'm sure I missed something, but that's the gist of it. Today isn't voting. Today is editing.
They're at the break over there in the USA ...right?
They are.

So yes you would be affected in a way. Isn't 4chan hosted in the US?
Better start saving parts of the Internet onto pendrives and removable HDDs. We could smuggle data this way to less fortunate countries, making some cash out of it. [editline]15th December 2011[/editline] Then if they start confiscating our USB drives at airport securities, we'll embed them into our skin. This is like, the plot to 2/3rds of every cyberpunk story ever.
If this passes I'm moving to Europe.
this is what happens when a bunch of old-timer idiots start making laws about something they clearly never used or read about
No kidding. That's why these guys shouldn't be handling shit like this, they are waaaay too old to understand anything about the internet.
This is like, the plot to 2/3rds of every cyberpunk story ever.
If not the plot, then it's usually an initial factor in creating the cyberpunk-dystopia setting used. The removal of freedoms usually always instigates a chain reaction that leads to some form of autocracy (be it fascism, corporatism, or something else) where the proletariat are oppressed by the elite. Such as in the novel Signal to Noise, where, after a series of earthquakes that did severe damage to cities across the world, the United States of America created an amendment that basically made the U.S. an official corporatist society - IE corporations could buy policies, and whoever had the most money wrote the laws. As you can imagine, the first things they abolished were monopoly laws and fair-competition regulations. I'm sure you can imagine how it devolves into a cyberpunk dystopia from there.

waiting for a quorum before starting
If this passes, there will definitely be NO riots or anything like that. I don't think the news channels have even been following it, and the most that will be reported is Fox putting a positive spin on it.
I don't see how even fox news can make this into a positive if it passes...
They are reporting on it because of this: WASHINGTON -- News Corp. honcho Rupert Murdoch threw his weight behind Congress' attempt to restrict the Internet, personally lobbying leaders on Capitol Hill Wednesday for two measures that purport to combat piracy.
