That's the problem.
I might as well have a wank before they outlaw that too.
Porn wouldn't be censored, would it?
This only really effects things that could have copyrighted materials, but I guess porn sites may have troubles with that...
1. Find the URL of the website you want to visit.
2. Press Windows key + R
3. Type cmd and press enter
4. In the command prompt, type ping (your url) without the brackets
5. Type the IP address that comes up into your browser.
6. ???
7. Profit
Nope
That would still use the DNS servers they've filtered
It's easier than that, anyway. Plugins have already been made in case this bill comes into action :v:

Oh if porn sites were to be affected, it would be civil war.
Has the president said whether or not he's going to sign or veto the bill?

Links to some of these plugins?
I wish we could convince all the major services to shut down for a few hours to shut down when the congressmen are actually using them. Maybe then they'll change their script.
Right there with ya buddy. I have a quarter bottle of Bacardi 151 and a a 2 liter of Coke.
I only have four cans of beer. Three of which are Miller Lite.
At least the first one is Schaefer.

Also, doing that or attempting to get around censors would be illegal (to my knowledge).

Does it look like any of us would give a fuck if attempting to access something the US would filter under this bill is illegal?

Either way, during my time on the internet, I've gotten free shit by the Gigabytes, it's not like they can take our files. This is pointless.

The stakes would be higher. Again, I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that there would be much heavier fines and possibly a bit of jail time for breaking parts of this possible new law, not just the little slap on the wrist and possible fine you get from your ISP currently for pirating things.
Well the only good thing is that Obama has said he will veto SOPA if it comes to his desk...

Stockpile all sorts of new files, set up a ftp or whatever you call them, and start a secret "silk road" where people could request files over steam or IRC, then download them. Or dead drops with flash drives.
Feeling a bit cyberpunk in here.
And I just realized that I posted about 4 posts in the last couple minutes. This entire thing sure has me worked up.
how will facepunch live without the internet and their furry porn?
Well the only good thing is that Obama has said he will veto SOPA if it comes to his desk...
He said the same thing about NDAA when it was first seen.
Just to be sure you all see this before -- if -- Facepunch goes down, here's some software that's been used by Chinese to evade the giant firewall. http://hotspotshield.com/
Personally I think that all the hatemail in every single politician's inbox has a slight chance at making them reconsider, but just in case.
Uh, can anyone else not view the stream? I just opened it again and it says "Subscription failed: hoc_input".

"lol we're destroying the internet."
Could we get the op to update the original post with all the new information and a general summary of the events? Or can someone else brief us? I'm still confused what actually happened today.

Jack shit. That's what's happened.
Just want to make one last goodbye in case this bill DOES get passed.

But how is 4 beers gonna wash away your fear?
4chan is a force to be reckoned with. I'm not saying they are good, or even slightly decent, but they are simply a mass of individuals, all with differing opinions, on one site. If their site, which most of them spend most of their waking hours on, is shut down, there will be massive retaliation from both "Anonymous" (hacker group) and a lot of people on the BBS. Hacking, social engineering, and physical protesting would obviously occur, and they would likely be able to get decent attention from the media and cause some change if they all united against a single cause.
keep in mind most of them are half-retarded 15 year olds who can't do shit
and you need to get out of the basement before you can protest. I don't see that happening with 4chan kids
I don't drink alcohol, mainly because I really don't enjoy it but oh my god I need a few shots of SOMETHING man.
Fuck.
oh and anonymous will do the same thing they did with the Zetas: "oh we don't want to hurt anyone, we give up"
or they'll try to ddos the house of representatives, oh fuck fuck fuck

fucking automerge
