I know this isn't the end of the internet, but it sure feels like the end of the internet as we know it. :tinfoil: There's a big difference between just the end of the internet and the one we know, I'll bet the new "censored" internet's gonna have the same atmosphere as V for Vendetta or something. :v:
Affecting almost noone? I may be misinformed by the functions of the entire bill, but if I am to understand this bill, corporations owning the copyright property can go directly to the marketing and ad revenue sites as Google Adsense, etc. A lot of websites rely on this ad income to maintain their site, and also history has proven the entertainment industry will do as much as in their power will let them to remove and attempt to cut any act of copyright infringement (The baby video being a fine example to the lengths corporations will go to remove copyright infringement.), and as such, this bill will affect a lot more people, than say DMCA.
That's just sick and wrong. It really shows how heartless and money-grabbing those corporations are. I hate to sound like a anti-capitalist hippie, but that really has changed my view on how this copyright deal may go down.
Congress sat around and said "No" at some amendments, except for Mr Polis, who said "AYE", and then they agreed to say no some more at 10 AM Pacific Time tomorrow.
Last time I checked, they are in DC which is in EASTERN STANDARD TIME which means it is at 10 AM EST not 10 AM PST which would be 1 PM EST

What are you suggesting this will change, specifically? In the instance of the baby video, lawyers were going to take that video down regardless, so unless you're suggesting that SOPA will allow them to shutdown all of Youtube anytime copyright infringement occurs, I'm not seeing a difference.
well internet we had a good run
Pacific is ... 3 hours behind eastern time. So, if its 1000 Pfc, its 1300 Est. (1pm.)
Cut me some slack. It's been a LOOOOOOOOOONG day.
well internet that we know and love* we had a good run
The internet's not gonna die, but it'll definitely be a shadow of its former self if this bill passes. It's like a zombie.
DID IT PASS WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK
Another thing I'd like to point out is that if I didn't visit Facepunch, I would have never heard of this bill, at all. And I do read the news daily. After seeing this thread I searched Google News extensively for articles on this and found about three of them all day. If this was truly the end of the internet as we know it, it would be a known issue. I've seen this happen so many times; where everyone on Facepunch fearmongers that x issue is the end of the world, and yet no one outside Facepunch is aware of it. It's getting pretty ridiculous.
The internet's not gonna die, but it'll definitely be a shadow of its former self if this bill passes. It's like a zombie.
More like a lobotomy patient. It looks like what it used to be on the outside, but inside it's just dead.
Fuck sopa, don't care if you are republican,, democraft, or whatever the fuck you are. It is ANTI AMERICAN, and it will kill YOU. GO BACK HOME TO YOUR STUPID FOREIGN COUNTRIES YOU OLD ALIEN GRUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *I dont hate foreigners but I wish thebest for my country and you should wish the best for yours too if SOPA passes cause you will be fucked too and we have to stand together as Americans even if we arent and kill SOAP at its roots or we will pay the price.
You'd think there would be an equal number of companies paying people to oppose to this Bill.

However in this bill, there is a whole infrastructure designed so that a site is responsible for user posted content (Even detailing a FEW links are enough to act on this bill), to block the site's ad revenue, US web traffic, search engine traffic, which are vital for not as popular sites (Hint a lot of sites) and in general a much larger group of violating sites can be targeted by this bill than previously. It's not like the biggest online presences are fighting this bill (Mozilla, AOL, Facebook, eBay, list goes on) for nothing, it most likely will change the internet. Even if it doesn't, it's another anti-capitalistic step towards true censorship of freedom, and must be stopped by us.
Someone needs to make their own internet and websites and shit so we can still enjoy our past selves if it passes
Guys, this is just like Skyrim: This bill is like Alduin, the World Eater. We just need to [sp]cast it forward in time (get the bill not to pass, only to have it come up some other time, or something like it)[/sp]. We just need [sp]an Elder Scroll (Anything that keeps this bill from passing)[/sp]. This internet world is going to be destroyed (Kind of) eventually, we can only prolong its lifetime as much as we can. Oh wow that was nerdy.
Sad part of the "real american" song thing is that if this is the end for youtube songs it will be gone right there. [editline]15th December 2011[/editline] Fucking shit why hasn't someone taken a giant boombox and tons of people and stand outside singing that "Real American" stuff. I wish that'd happen tomorrow
:v:
That is pretty funny.
If it passes, I really hope for major protesting.
What for? Why would you say such a thing, Stop playing for the other team dummy. EU's Court of Justice has already given zero fucks to this shit, and their previous decision will be taken in account on basically any potential development on this topic. Passing of this bill in USA will cause businesses look for an alternative places to operate.
so what's the story so far.?
Wellllll..... we're waiting!
so what's the story so far.?
we're all fucked [sp]just kidding, it'll never get through[/sp]
Hey guys, remember when viacom took down meet the scout? Remember how they took down the trailer for The Last of Us? Remember how they didn't have the right to take down either of those, but did it anyway? Remember when the amazing atheist did a video response to Rick Perry's ad and it gotten taken down for copyright claims despite it being his content? I agree with you guys, I doubt this law will affect most people.

I'm a man far from politics, but could someone explain these things to me: - Why are they allowed to interrupt each other? - Why is faulty logic tolerated? - Why are they not consulting experts? - Why are they arguing and not discussing?
Flawed lawmaking system. Anybody worth half a shit will back me up on that.
Obama. I am Australian. Normally I don't really let these matters affect me, but I can say one thing. If you veto SOPA, I will put an American flag in my yard, and personally sing a patriotic song of your choice. Don't let me down here.

If they were good at logic they wouldn't be politicians
