Someone ran out of time and forced another meeting Lamar Smith ran out of time.
Ms Lofgren, Hello, just a random internet user here. I’ve been watching the stream with eagle eyes since yesterday. I’m just a guy from one of a multitude of online communities. People from around the world have been watching the SOPA debate, not only US citizens, but citizens from a plethora of other nations. It is obvious why American citizens would choose to watch this debate. However, why would those hailing from other countries decide to watch the debate? The answer is simple: America is one of the most influential countries in the world. If America is to do something, then it is not a stretch to believe that other countries will follow. It is especially worrying when such a bill as SOPA is at stake here. I could not conjure the words to explain my hate for SOPA. I’ll have to do my best. To me, SOPA is a festering amalgamation of treason that blatantly violates human rights. It is disgusting that so many congressmen have had their pockets filled by corporations to sup-
"...the gentleman's time is up and I would like to recognize myself in opposition to the amendment."
Reading the EFF Live Tweets What just happened: They are going to meet up next year to continue all of this instead of their attempted push through

When they get back they will still try to push it through
"...the gentleman's time is up and I would like to recognize myself in opposition to the amendment."
More like this.
Ms Lof-
"...the gentleman's time is up and I would like to recognize myself in opposition to the amendment."
It seemed like they knew what they were talking about and were against that [editline]16th December 2011[/editline]
More like this. "...the gentleman's time is up and I would like to recognize myself in opposition to the amendment."
The Gentleman is recognized for 2 more minutes.

So, wait, we've got another year or so? I feel both relieved, and filled with terror; I know that, at one point, the debate will start again, and until it does, I'll have a dread in my bones I've not felt for a while. I feel like a kid being told his homework doesn't have to be in yet, but that he's got until tommorrow to finish it.

anyone mind telling me what happened recently? I have been at school all day and theres like 500 new posts.
Except next year starts in 2 weeks. So maybe a month realistically.
Well... at least it isn't happening too soon.
Guess I'll mail my letter in a few days
Guess I'll mail my letter in a few days
If you're writing a letter, then I'm writing one too. Hell, I'll get my brother to write one as well, and see if I can't convince a few of my friends. Can you send me all the information I'll need for it to get to her, or link it? I'll lose it if I just gleam it off the thread.
knew that would happen expect a watered down version , dont forget about it, this is how they push stuff through.
It's a good sign there holding off voting for now, instead of just trying to push it through while few people are looking. Now the bills opponents have time to raise awareness against it
It's a good sign there holding off voting for now, instead of just trying to push it through while few people are looking. So this bill will not see any attention on the news except for the people who actually care.
And now they have time to water it down and make it even vaguer so it passes. Welp. At least We have the rest of December to browse the internet freely.

honestly surprised that they're fucking off, even if only for a little bit what made them back down? we need to keep doing that
So, wait, we've got another year or so? It's gonna be a hard nuclear winter without the internet.
If major sites like this one get shut down then I will be bored 24/7. Seriously I have really no creativity, don't have my license or my permit even though I'm 16. So I guess I'll go back to my old self before FP, get fat and watch TV all day.
And now they have time to water it down and make it even vaguer so it passes. Welp. At least We have the rest of December to browse the internet freely.
STOP WITH THE DEFEATISM Seriously, if SOPA passes, we're not going to become Jews in Germany circa 1939. I doubt anything major will happen for a few months even. We now have the rest of December to SPREAD THE WORD and MAKE PEOPLE AWARE. Not mope about for 2 more weeks crying about how we won't be able to access our favourite sites after waking up one day.

No really what. Big major sites won't get shot down, individual users get punished at that level. Facepunch on the other hand is fucked when this bill hits the internet.
What. No really what. Big major sites won't get shot down, individual users get punished at that level. Facepunch on the other hand is fucked when this bill hits the internet.
If I remember correctly, Facepunch is fine, it's in the UK. The most they'll do is try to block access to the site if you're from the United States. Facepunch will still be there, you just have to find a work around.
What. Big major sites won't get shot down, individual users get punished at that level.
Yes they will, big major sites are under even more fire than small ones.
Big major sites won't get shot down, individual users get punished at that level.
Yes they can, and they will. Any site whose users are found guilty of copyright infringement and is deemed "not doing enough to stop it" can be shut down before a trial or anything like that. Google, Youtube, Facebook, Wikipedia, etc. could all very well fall into that category. Edit:
Obviously the government aren't "full retard"
No, just full of.
Yes they will, big major sites are under even more fire than small ones.
You're Finnish, clearly you don't have a full understanding of how things are. Obviously the government aren't "full retard" and won't just seize Facebook, Youtube, etc. from the public.
Men, we only have a month or so. It is time for the empires to begin working together! We, the facepunchers shall make up the bulk of our army, I will send 4chan to make weapons while deviant art creates terror weapons. The facebookers shall the be propaganda department and we will march on the government!
You're Finnish, clearly you don't have a full understanding of how things are. Obviously the government aren't "full retard" and won't just seize Facebook, Youtube, etc. from the public.
That is what they're doing. As soon as someone uploads a video with a copy written song, posts a link to copy written websites to facebook, or posts a copy written picture to Facepunch, the entire website is blocked from the entire public. You're fucking retarded, you're discriminating, and change you shitty avatar.
