A reddit thread with 8 minutes and no replies? That's eerie. [editline]19th December 2011[/editline] I saw the picture too and that's also :(
Strange thing, too. It's like it never showed up on the What's New tab. I'm pretty sure it was just a glitch though. This isn't really something controversial to Reddit or anything. I sent a message to the mods about it.
Cable news realizes SOPA and PIPA are bad. Let's hope they actually want to do something about it.
I still do not get why you are legally allowed to pay off congressmen.
You're not. Organizations can spend a maximum of $10,000 in donations for candidates in elections, which doesn't guarantee they'll vote your way. Especially not on bills of importance to their constituents. Which obviously isn't a perfect system, but not as bad as most Americans believe.
And while all this was happening, wasn't there some military detainment law that passed through because everybody was shitting themselves over SOPA and PIPA? http://www.aclu.org/blog/national-security/senators-demand-military-lock-american-citizens-battlefield-they-define-being Not sure how accurate this article is with it being so old and all, but it should convey the gist of it with all of this "indefinite detainment" stuff. EDIT: Just noticed that we do have an NDAA thread. But still, do you think it would have passed if SOPA and PIPA weren't around to draw attention away from it?
Ms. Lofgren posted this on her FB:
A couple of people sent me this funny meme of me. Can I be a meme? Thanks to whoever did this. #SOPA
And you're points you make there, my god you've convinced me. And nerd style? You're on a website that was founded off of a video game mod. Jesus fucking christ.

I am pretty sure he was making a joke. I hope he was making a joke.
If the bill does go through, can Youtube, Facebook etc legally declare their headquarters in another country, so they can be liable to their laws ?
Why do Record labels even exist anymore. The system is completely outdated. Stuff like Youtube allows pretty much anyone to release music and make money from it through ads per-play. After that, a service should exist whereby people can buy tracks/albums they want directly from the artist via Youtube/Itunes/Amazon. Remix law should be totally optional to the producer, obviously as a producer got bigger, they'd probably allow anyone to remix their tracks (provided they bought a lossless stemmed version, which could cost more), or indeed, allow this from the beginning, so they can get more popular through good remixes of their tracks. As for live performances etc, that can be handled by an external agent/agency which couldn't really have any say on copyright/ etc. I do agree that unofficial people hosting tracks on YT etc are pretty shit, how they can theoretically make tons of money for doing nothing at all. This should be detected by YT automatically (as it is currently) and then show up as flagged on THE ARTISTS YouTube account, so that THEY ALONE can control whether the content stays or is removed (smaller artists would probably leave unofficial uploads up so that they can get more popularity). So that's my stance.

The vote was just delayed UPDATE: WHEW. Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith tried to pull a fast one and call for a vote this week, after initially indicating that he wouldn't. But that hearing was just officially cancelled. As Congressman Darrell Issa just tweeted: #SOPA UPDATE: markup scheduled for tomorrow AM has been POSTPONED "due to House schedule" #stopSOPA #OPEN
So I guess another date hasn't been determined then?
So I guess another date hasn't been determined then?
Most likely next year
I thought it was going to continue on the 21st.
America if this shit passes I swear to every non-existent deity that I will flip a shit
I will flip several shits. [editline]20th December 2011[/editline] Flip them all the way round.
I thought it was going to continue on the 21st.
apparently it was delayed
Viva la Revolution!
If this passes then it will become the Dark Ages of the internet. I feel bad for the small online companies who will probably be screwed over by this.

So, so far how likely do you guys think SOPA is going to pass..
So, so far how likely do you guys think SOPA is going to pass..
Very likely if the corporations send more bribes--er, I mean, donations.
