They said that to let our guard down.
The very companies that sue you for filesharing invested in programs such as bittorrent, kaZaa, and limewire. This video has all of the proof, spread this video and stop SOPA
[editline]25th December 2011[/editline] Let me get this straight; if they decide to shut down a website, will it have a global effect, or is it just limited to America?

If it is hosted in your evil communist socialist empire dictatorships, then the government forces our ISPs to block the DNS. So international sites will be unaffected besides the lack of Americans inside them.
Source? I thought they were waiting till Jan.? Also fuuuuuuuuuuuu-
I was kidding. That's probably how it's going to be like, that's how it's always like. It doesn't matter where most of the vote goes. America is barely a democracy anymore.
Unironically, yes. I would actually risk my precious Youtube and Facebook, leaving the internet nothing but shady dark-net forums, just so every brony can go away.

"90% voted no 8% voted yes and 2% voted maybe. Looks like the results are unanimous, the bill is being passed!"
Wait, how is it passed if 90% voted no? Also we're gonna need a source on that.
Wait, how is it passed if 90% voted no? Also we're gonna need a source on that.
He was kidding. Not a very good place to do that.
My buddy is moving his site away from GoDaddy, I was glad to hear it. I'm wondering if Facebook and Google and maybe Wikipedia (if they are against SOPA openly) would ever put an advertisement or banner at the top of their pages advocating against SOPA? It would certainly spread the word better than most other sources.
U.S. Representatives are pirating content as well... Including "adult-themed self help videos".
http://torrentfreak.com/while-drafting-sopa-us-house-harbors-bittorrent-pirates-111226/ Wow. This just goes to show that our "representatives" do not know what SOPA is.
The level of hypocrisy & ignorance was usually standard when defining Congress. You sir have just raised it.

Because it probably is.

I'm not saying that those accused haven't torrented anything but that site isn't a trustworthy source at all.
I hope it dosent come to Canada :( But I know that Harper is like the usa little bitch and he will prolly do the same over here Hopefully well do something Everyone has to stand strong !
We all know that if this bill passes we will have to listen to this:
I've tried letting my friends know in Australia even though it is being passed in America, still a big thing for us because we're frequent users of YouTube, facebook, google and sometimes Soundcloud (even though that's for small bands/performers getting a kickstart, they'll find someway to say it is a tool for piracy). Luckily for us our filtering system has been put on a halt because many ISP's disagreed to do testing and said how it would have a terrible outcome on our Internet. Good luck Americans.
I sat down and wrote a letter via snail mail to the asshole chairman. I doubt he'll even read it but here's a copy so you can send it to your representatives. I made sure to highlight the parts involving money so more attention is paid. You're also meant to send this to SOPA supporters but none of them are likely to give a shit about the problems until you highlight the money stopping parts in a separate email.
Dear RECIPIENT, I am deeply concerned about H.R. 3261 and the threat it poses to Internet freedom. You may not feel the same way, but I feel you should at least hear my summary of the bill and then decide for yourself whether you should ignore or support the bill known as the "Stop Online Piracy Act". H.R. 3261 allows the U.S. government to force ISPs, search engines, and parment and advertisement networks, to literally cut themselves off from doing business with said site. ISPs, if ordered, must prevent access to any site the U.S. government tells them to restrict. Search engines much delete the target website's results. PAYMENT and advertisement NETWORKS ARE FORCED TO STOP ALL FORM OF MONEY TRANSFER between the network and the target website. It does not matter what your website provides, the government can and will target you and use the above restricting actions against you if: -Register your domain name outside the US, and -you provide a program or service that so much as facilitate, even unknowingly, the commission of copyright or trademark infringement. Even innocent programs like a text file editor - someone could use your text file editor to copy trademarked book text for a presenatation, and then you'd be in trouble because your program facilitated the "stealing" of that copyrighted or trademarked text. However, that is not the end of problems SOPA creates. Section 103 of the bill supplies private parties with a notice and cut-off system that TARGETS FINANCIAL RESOURCES EASILY AND QUICKLY. If a payment network receives an allegation by a rightsholder - even just somebody that holds a copyright for an ancient method you unknowingly used - THEY MUST CEASE ALL FORM OF MONEY TRANSFER WITHIN 5 DAYS OF RECEIVING THE NOTICE. If the targeted site and the payment network do not ceace doing business within 5 days, THE RIGHTSHOLDER CAN AND LIKELY WILL INITIATE A LAWSUIT AGAINST YOUR WEBSITE. It does not matter if your site does far more lawful things then one little program. If you have even one little program on a site like whitehouse.gov, then whitehouse.gov and you are both targeted for takedown under Section 103 of H.R. 3261. You will be targeted if: -You offer a service that enabled or facilitates copyright or trademark infringement, OR -The site operator takes or has taken deliberate actions to avoid confirming a high probability of infringing activity on the site. Even if you didn't do any infringing activity, if you've tried to disprove that you've done "bad things", you can and probably will be targeted. ANY ONLINE CONTENT OR COMMUNICATIONS PLATFORM - EVEN IF YOU ARE GIVEN AN EXCEPTION TO THE BILL - COULD LOSE ITS FINANCIAL SUPPORT AT THE WHIN OF THE MOST LITIGIOUS RIGHTSHOLDER. Under SOPA, every user-generated content platform, social media website, or cloud-based storage service would be at constant risk of being cut off from payment or ad networks. All it would take to start the process -- and put the website in serious jeopardy -- is a single rightsholder alleging to the payment and ad networks that the challenged website is designed in a way that prevents it from sufficiently "confirming" infringement. In effect, every online communications platform would be at the mercy of not just mainstream rightsholders, but whatever rightsholder is the most aggressive and litigious. As you can see, this bill creates more problems then it can possibly solve. I am not trying to be a fearmonger, nor am I trying to brainwash you. I am simply stating the problems this bill can cause and I urge you to vote against H.R 3261. Sincerely, A Concerned Citizen
I imagine it'll go like this. Someone from the government was doing it.
So when are they supposed to start voting on it again? It said 'next year (2012)', but didn't give an actual date.
So when are they supposed to start voting on it again? It said 'next year (2012)', but didn't give an actual date.
Next vote is for PIPA and that is on the 24th. Go here to go yell at people: http://my.americancensorship.org/categories/individual-state-discussions
I have no clue how late this is, but if you have an Android phone, get this app. It's a barcode scanner. If you scan a product barcode, it will tell you whether or not the company that makes the product supports SOPA. Boycotting made easy.
Update time! SOPA is (supposedly) shelved (NOT DEAD) Reports of its half death are all over the place but that means nothing until its burned. PIPA is still alive and will have a vote this week (unless they decide to put that away too. They are going to probably do a bait and switch.) Continue yelling at your proper people END PSA
My day has been made.
PIPA is still as bad as SOPA and thats still alive and kicking. No reports of its half death yet as far as I am aware.
So it seems Wikipedia is shutting itself down in 10 hours to protest SOPA/PIPA for a day. Any other sites doing the same that we should know about?
