I said that before we went on doing a daring move across the board, and well I think it could still be good for something later on.
Who knows, we might encounter a wide gap further down and it would save us time if we already grabbed the board.

One of them has a bow...
I suggest just remove the plank and lay it down on your side of the hole, so that if you ever have to come back you will be able to cross while still effectively preventing the guards from chasing you further.

Pretty much this, the plank can probably be used in the future too, should there ever be another gaping hole that might need to be crossed in this tunnel.
