A Quiet Conversation (The Jimquisition) [SPOILERS] - General

I'm confused Mister Sandman, I thought we'd established throughout the thread that, whatever you think of the excuse, it does work within MGS's logic, unlike the claims that it doesn't in the video. Plus, I don't see any shitty or lazy writing here, imo Quiet is one of the best written female characters in gaming (not better than the Boss but up there) and that's coming from a huge fan of Mass Effect. [editline]14th September 2015[/editline] Also, anyone who gets offended by those lap dance things I really urge you to rethink it all, just look at the way Quiet looks at Snake. That's how it's done.[/QUOTE] Ok maybe I articulated that poorly: the lapdances are fanservice, but Quiet [sp]loves Venom[/sp] I suppose the way she looks at him makes up for the fan service bollocks and certainly contextualizes the way she's [sp]constantly pining for his attention, bearing in mind she's not all there as a person. I suppose actions like diving into the chlorine pretty much to impress Venom represent how she feels for him better than the stupid lap dances, that and of course it reflects her mental health[/sp]. I'm just confused about why having a sexy character like Quiet and having her be a good character is somehow impossible at the same time in your minds. I do believe that MGSV is flawed, I don't believe that's Quiet's tits contribute to those flaws. I also feel like pointing out that for the majority of the game Quiet is just a concept: she sits miles away completely out of site picking off guards one by one, you don't see her or her huge tits you just hear a crack as her bullets penetrate your enemy's skulls. Though you wouldn't know that since you know shit all about MGSV or, probably, any MGS game.

That's how it's done.[/QUOTE] Fan service isn't a bad thing when it isn't abusive and overdone within a single game. Metal Gear Solid is full of fan service that's very rarely just eye candy - quiet except, most of the fan service is stuff like people constantly saying the word Ruse, "you're pretty good" being uttered frequently with the voice actors sounding overly cheesy and cheeky on purpose, "kept you waiting huh", the decoy balloons saying these lines over and over again, so on and so forth. Quiet is the only character in the game who's wearing that outfit. It's not the convention within the game, and it's not something you're even forced to see - if you don't like her, pop a cap in Quiet's head the moment you see her and she'll never show up again. Bikini chainmails and such dissonances in design are bad when it's overdone and every female armor is like that within a game, but it's fine when it's a single character who has a reason to be wearing that within a particular context. Yes, Quiet wears a bikini. Yes, she's straight forward and unsubtle when trying to appeal to Venom. No, that's not a bad thing. Even when these kind of distasteful outfit designs end up in a game, it's hardly the end of the world. It's basically just a slightly annoyance in what can still be a great game. People are willing to defend kojima on the Quiet thing not because it's Kojima who's doing it but because it's a legitimately good situation where a character has a legitimate reason to be dressed like that. Stop being so high and mighty that you can't even tolerate a bit of eye candy, especially when it's done in a way that actually makes the character endearing and likable. If "every single character has sensible, functional, logical dress code with no fancy shit allowed" is your top priority when it comes to standards of quality in video games then you should reconsider whether or not you're into the right hobby. [editline]a[/editline] And to be perfectly clear, TPP is [I]not[/I] a perfect game, neither is its story. Quiet's an incredibly endearing character in my opinion and you actually develop a connection to her throughout the game if you bother sending her out on missions with you, but her story arc still ends on a rather weak note that's cluttered with plot holes. Her outfit is fine but I think she could have benefited from multiple outfits from a pure gameplay standpoint, since all the outfits you get from her are purely cosmetic and for the most part non-canon. Behaving like her showing tits and ass every so often when you straight up stare at her cleavage during ACC sections is a bad thing let alone a downside to the game is one hell of an exaggeration if I've ever seen one.

I'm annoyingly mad about people who can't see past her choice of attire, even after it's explained in universe. I understand that it's fan service to certain groups of people, but I also understand that her appearance being fan service isn't the entirety of her character. I don't have a strong opinion on her clothing, and acknowledge that I'd have had a better opinion (instead of not caring) on her clothing if she had a more unique design, but it doesn't [I]annoy[/I] me. It doesn't matter to me. Yet here are people that look at Quiet and don't stop complaining about the fact that she isn't fully clothed, as if it has never happened in the history of the development of our culture and sexuality or a Metal Gear game. Why does it matter so much? Why is her clothing so important to people, and why do they choose to only see her attire instead of her as a character? Her "sexy poses" are only really in your face if you stare at her in the ACC or visit her cell optionally outside of Ocelot's examination. With her appearance it's obviously fan service to specific people (who find it appealing or humorous) but that's all it is; but that's not all her character is.

Kojima made a weird excuses for showing her boobs. I like looking at her boobs because they are nice boobs, but I still have to agree that Kojima shouldn't have tried to pretend (in interviews) that Quiet's design's purpose is anything but showing boobs.

Kojima couldn't tell the real reason behind Quiet's outfit because it would have revealed her character quite significantly. Most of TPP's marketing campaign is full of red herrings and misdirection, including how Kojima first presented the character. Spoiler info about her character arc : [sp]her outfit backfires and she nearly gets raped which causes her to go berserk and kill ten people, including one who gets stabbed a dozen times in the dick.[/sp] It's treated a lot better than people say it is, and as per usual with Metal Gear, it's got a very odd mix of very serious, often dark situations and otherwise stupid shit.

Quiet's design is quite eh but still I never get why people call any "half nude" characters in anything as "wank material"(unless it is porn I mean then it is literally intended as wank material), it is a game and in this case I don't play it to jack off, if I intend that then I would be searching for porn. I mean whole game could literally be people in swimming suits and I wouldn't be jacking off to it.

I don't want to get too into it, but the whole thing about [sp]"Quiet is trying to seduce Boss, that's why she wears the outfit!"[/sp] is bs because [sp]the female skulls unit exists, who wear the exact bikini & stockings as Quiet (not as battle damaged) for no other reason other than "look they're hot too!".[/sp] In the end, Kojima has outright stated why he gave her that outfit (to inspire art and cosplay), so there's not much to argue about in my opinion.

Not to step on anyone's toes, but I think the name's more lazy imo. I thought it was a placeholder way back then as a way to trick consumers into thinking it's a new character but in fact an obscure character from previous titles. I thought it was gonna be [sp]a young Sniper Wolf[/sp] until I found that she really isn't gonna speak. Still, it's a video game, and an amazing one I heard (I haven't bought it yet). If the character herself is great, a little wardrobe disaster won't kill anybody.
